Needed Metal Cut for Mount... Update, Mount is Here!

Nobody gonna remark on the Sirhr Custom Performance Shop straight scope and LRF tandem mount? He did a fantastic job, just great.

This is a solid field setup, that's a fact. Works really well too, push eye against the eyecup and the shutter opens and you have perfect eye relief. Look through the LRF and see the same AO. I'd like an eyecup like that on the LRF if I can find one that'll fit. When the tripod comes, I'll try and get a kestrel and PDA and I'll have the IR mounted to it, so I'll try and show off the whole thing. I'll try and keep it as tacticool as I can!

Now to see if I can find a PVS14 mount that will fit the eyepiece and a sunshade and/or Obj. lens cover that maybe threads in? Butler Creek doesn't make 'em that big and USO doesn't carry parts for the spotter.

Don't overlook the essentials.

The amazing thing about this community is that a bunch of guys thousands of miles apart came together... and came up with pretty cool bit of kit!

A week ago, that mount was a piece of junk in the corner of my shop. In 5 days, a piece of scrap metal went from an idea to an online sketch to a finished, final drilled, assembled, painted mount. Not only that... it was done across three time zones and an entire continent!!! I mean... how cool is that!

This is a great example of the 'positive' way social media can work. So much better than trolls, fake news and keyboard commando douchbaggery... THIS is how social media is "should" work! How a community can make ideas... real!

Love the finished mount Stryker! Your concept is great! A lot of vision and a bit of friendly teamwork... and we all made something!!

Cheers,

Sirhr

Totally agree. Like I said, it's the people here that set this place apart.

On the subject of the people here setting this place apart... Look a the IPA-Karma that showed up via UPS today!

Was a bit of a CF.... as one of the bottles leaked. And the UPS warehouse was trying to destroy the package... but I went down and got it. The warehouse guys were awesome about it! We unwrapped the brewskies together and they were looking at them enviously. I even offered them a couple, but they have a "no free beer" policy, apparently. Which I am glad for. Who wants to give away IPA?

None of the bottles broke... but one leaked around the cap and emptied 3/4 of its contents into the box. Oh the humanity! But the rest are perfect!

Anyway... Thanks Stryker!!!! You are the man. And I am going to toast all you guys and the SH community with some good IPA this week!

Cheers,

Sirhr

Nice little collection to polish off right there. Nice job @Strykervet (y)(y)(y)

Awesome spread there! That Dayglow really earns it's name. It tastes like the label looks.

I've never had the Rogue 7 hop either, it was the first time I'd ever seen it. But usually specials like that are good. Pacific Drift just makes damn good beer. Their amber is one of the best but I couldn't find any. The pilsner is good too.

Hopefully I sent some you've never seen.

Calling you in about 5 minutes

In his (meager and half-hearted) defense, @flyer was viewing this project in terms of normal human achievement. He had no idea that @sirhrmechanic can machine shit that has DARPA scratching their heads. Nor has he seen @oneshot86 at work in real life and understands that the honey badger is not governed by the laws of mortal performance, whether that be with a chainsaw or a welder. That dude could weld a dick onto a snowman without ever setting down his Natty Light.

Stand by for the call buddy
Thank you for the defense but there are a few things off here. I have seen some stuff Sirh has done and knowing what goes in to work like that, I get pissed off when people trivialize those efforts.

As far as oneshot86 goes, I'm sure he could weld a dick on a snowman. He's probably certified even but that's an easy weld.

Well, all I can say is BIG thanks to members here for the custom work done, I've got one helluva day/night field spotting setup now and it didn't break me to get it. That damn thing makes me grin everytime I look at it. My buddy was just floored, he'd never seen anything like that. And considering none of these parts were ever meant to work together and now work flawlessly, I'd say it's a spectacular win! Not to mention the quality of work done on all the parts was such that it looks like it was bought from a store and I've had questions on where to buy 'em! And Sirhr's mount is just perfect, solid enough, not too heavy. Just right (so glad he went with SS instead of the aluminum I had in mind). Night Owl made me the Delrin NV adapter and you couldn't buy a better one, it's straight, solid, close tolerance and the nylon set screws won't damage the PVS.

So here is the completed system, painted and with NV connected. The system will go down to 8 inches, so it can all be used in the prone! Folds up and fits in a pack, but takes up some room as you can imagine. The assembly is QD but everything else is hard mounted; I may modify that later but not sure. Not a priority.

Dunno, man, looking very suspicious done up like that on that rug. Looks like it should have a Dragunov next to it. :p

Almost like it was "meant to be..."

Glad this worked out for you as good as it did. Curious though, do you think the aluminum would have been a problem in some way?

The aluminum would have worked fine and was what I originally had in mind, but probably would have just added thickness that would have been unnecessary and I doubt it would have been any lighter, maybe even heavier. I never figured on the SS and Sirhr had it and it was almost in the right shape already so it really worked out.

Night Owl took me up on the adapter, big thanks to him too, he's a real stand up guy. He could seriously make those and sell 'em for any spotter, they're perfect fits and don't do any damage to the eyepiece or PVS obj.

Don't know who made the eye shutter, someone here did it but the original owner couldn't recall. It's pretty slick, perfect eye relief each time and covers the eyepiece. Apparently they were pretty popular around here when these came out.

you are awesome, that looks great
good job to everyone that helped

Back at 'ya! It's an awesome brotherhood and awesome collection of guys here. The action over words support here is phenomenal, everyone helping everyone out when they can and in their own way. Glad just to be a part of it. Proud. My one of a kind setup was originally born out of necessity due to the divorce, but what materialized was something far better than I imagined.

Nah, it was just left out after filming the last isis video, I mean taking pictures of the dog!
