NEW - Atlas CAL (Cant and Loc) Bipod - PRE-ORDER (added 12.14)

Great! It’s our part number BT69-NC I think we make that “public” by April. I believe there’s a list being kept at [email protected]

Thanks again one and all for your patience and support!

Awesome can't wait! I will send an email to get on the list if you haven't put me on it already.

Sweet! Thank you!

I just received my gen 2 and I'm patiently waiting for my RRS mount. It's my 1st Atlas and I'm impressed.

Sorry, but I am glad it's not the other way around this time!!

Just received my converted CAL (Gen 1 to Gen 2) back from B&T. Turnaround was just over a week door to door. Fantastic service!!

Thank you, I'm still sorry you had to go through it, just a reminder why we will always strive to do better.

So....i ran over my CAL during a dear hunt and cracked the pod lock. Kasey when was a good time to send it in for the upgrade? Finding i want to switch to it on my comp rig instead of my PRS.

They turned mine around in little over a week a couple weeks ago. Doorstep to doorstep

Just got a phone call my CAL arrived and the update was done........... and on way to shipping. Said today or early next week will ship. (y)

Pretty much the only company I know of who calls you to say "got your stuff, this is what we're doing and this is when you can expect it back"... good stuff.

I have to say that they set the bar pretty high for customer service. It's a shame that there aren't that many businesses like this anymore. I currently have 4 Atlas bipods and quite a few accessories from them. I still need to order this model to see how I like it.

Send it in and we'll do something about the Pod-Lok, no worries, and now is as good of time as any to send it in. Just contact [email protected] for RMA

Best customer service I've ever received from any company bar none.
All companies should follow their lead and treat their customers like B&T.

Thanks Kasey and company !

Thank you! We are actually in business because of our customers, so we owe you the best we can do. And regarding the CAL, we really needed to step up becasue of my total botch with Gen1!

This was regarding the conversion of the Picatinny clamp to the no clamp: how can I do that?

So Gen 2 BT65 convert to a Gen 2 BT65-NC is something we will do, just need to sort out the liability part so we can send parts to end user. Please contact [email protected] with what you want to do so we can communicate directly. Thank you.

Gen 1 worked as intended. Was happy with mine just as is but since you were offering free upgrade...;). Got the Gen 2 back and instead of retrofitting it, I got sent a brand new one. Wasn't expected but thank you!

No customer service experiences here, but I’ll offer my thoughts on the CAL.

I’ve been using them since the Gen 2 started to ship. I have one on a MK12 type build and one on a Bighorn/AX AICS build. We’re not nice to our stuff. My buddy broke the rubber feet off his Atlas, I watched it happen, so I was slightly hesitant. I’m happy I bought them.

This is the bipod I’ve been waiting 20+ years for, I have no complaints, and am constantly impressed by them. It’s the best bipod I’ve ever used; I’m not including the F class type bipods.

If it breaks or I find something that pisses me off about it, I’ll say something, but they’re staying on my rifles. I can’t think of anything to improve, other than maybe hard anodizing them in a flectarn pattern, or offering laser engraving so my brother can get one that says “Blue Steel” on it.

It’s just a great bipod. Well done. Just wide enough to get me to quit bitching about narrow bipods, just narrow enough to not be a pain in the ass to carry around for 5 miles etc.

I have to say, I had modified my Gen 1 with the wave spring kit and a teflon washer, and I was in the "this isn't bad" camp, I thought it had some range between flopping around and locked up. Or at least I could move it with enough drag to lock it down without inadvertently canting it. But I wasn't shooting this winter, so i figured I'd send it in for the conversion anyway.

I still haven't shot it, I'm hopefully a week or 2 from having my new barrel set up right, but I decided to play with it this morning for the 1st time since getting the bipod back, before taking everything apart again to drop the action off at the machine shop. Holy crap that's nice, being able to adjust the tension that well. I had no problem getting it to where I could have it not locked down and movable, but not have to worry that it was too loose and I had to hold my cant by hand, too.

Yep, I've got nothing new to add except if you're not running a Gen 2 CAL, you're missing out. Just got mine from 419 with the Arca clamp the other day, I couldn't be happier. Kasey, you did a really nice job with this one, thank you!

I'm glad you guys are liking the CAL gen2 and again, I sincerely appreciate your patience with all of this. I learned a ton! I hope to get back in the "Design" saddle this month and will take these lesson learned with me!!

So somewhere in all this there was a comment about someone breaking a Pod-Loc on a gen1. Today we got it back to convert to a Gen2 and the owner stated on the RMA "Also accidentally ran over mine in the field. Which the polymer handle cracked on the Pod-Loc but everything else is perfectly fine." I share this because the Pod-Loc “cracked” but did not shatter or break apart which speaks to the quality of this KMW product over the lesser/copycat products. The fact the CAL was not broke was not lost on me. (I just went to take a picture of it, it’s already rebuilt into a Gen 2.... Man, I am blessed to work with the people I get to work with! )

Hmmm...this reminds me that I still need to send mine in...

Maybe I'll buy a second one, so I don't have to wait for the Gen 1 to be retrofitted. :D (At least, that's what I'll tell the wife.)

How is everyone liking the gen2 cal? I'm on the fence about ordering one to replace my Harris. I didnt like my previous atlas because of the pan but the cal solves that problem.

A lot of my shooting is prone and if I'm not prone I'm using a front bag support

I think you’ll find the Gen2 CAL to be perfect for your uses.

You’ll also find the customer service second to none. Period.

For those who have used the RRS B&T clamp adapter on their CAL bipod, did you have to machine a relief cut for the center screw boss in the adapter? @Kasey is there anything in the way of me having the relief cut in?

Thanks!

I didn’t, but I also have no idea what that thing you are holding is. My RRS BTC-Pro has nothing like that.

Had a machinist friend make a quick pass through with an end mill, we're good to go now. For future reference, anyone planning to attach a RRS adapter made for any of the lever release clamps will have to modify the bipod to allow it to work. These clamps all attach via a center screw because they're made to go on a tripod head as well. The BTC-Pro clamp attaches via the two screw holes in the Atlas NC type heads and therefore doesn't need any clearance. The pan and cant style Atlas bipods have room for the center screw due to the opening in the top for the ballhead. Just an FYI so you know what to expect. Now I get to have my cake and eat it too!

I ordered the RRS SC-LR clamp with adapter plate to mount on my Gen 2 Atlas CAL about a month ago. I did not have to do any modifications whatsoever. Just bolt on and go. I think I read somewhere that RRS had to modify the adapter plate sometime last year to work with the CAL. When did you get the SC-LR and plate?

It was some time last year, makes sense I guess. I’m glad they sorted it out, either way I’m not bothered by having to modify it, I don’t think it should affect it.

SORRY! Just seeing this, if it were mine, I'd go by the old watchmakers addage, modify the part, not the watch. Meaning, I'd remove the center part of the adapter. But to answer your question, theres no reason you cant remove material from the ridge on the CAL mount.
