Bummer, but that's what I used along with my Redding 7 SAUM 3 die comp dies and I necked down Norma 300 SAUM(4 steps), Norma 7SAUM (2 steps),and Remmy 7SAUM (2steps) and only lost one case and that was trimming goof. Figured I will trim it down to check my chamber for trim length.
I didn't think they would when you posted on this thread so I picked up a sleeve as well, Thanks Bob!
I asked this in the loads for... Thread too maybe it's better off here. Will fire forming cases with H4831 be better than a slower powder like 1000 or Retumbo?

Yes, Well at least thats what Dave Kiff at PTG told me, He stated that John bought a reamer set to the 4S print so Im assuming thats what he has and is doing, Im sure John will get it squared away if he has somthing different. Francis has a set on order when they arrive I will check them.

Update on Whidden Dies, Apparently John had the wrong #'s, I faxed him the correct Print today and any sizing reamers that have been shipped will be replaced, The Seater was correct but the FL Re-sizer was .007 too tight at the shoulder. Should be corrected already. John is a perfectionist and one hell of a shooter.
I know RL-22 and 25 will work, but you wont get the velocity with the lower pressure. H4831SC is the fastest powder I would even think about using and be aware that it may raise the pressure up to above 55,000 PSI

If you have a Redding 7mmSAUM S serries Die Set and using the 7mm VLD stem in the seater with a .290 bushing in the FL Sizer your perfect already as thats still what I use and nets a perfect .003 resize at the shoulder.
The 6.5/300 SAUM dies that redding offers as a standard does not resize the neck enough. Stay away from those as there is no way to change the neck on a standard die.
How about Ramshot Magnum, Accurate Magpro and IMR 7828SSC? They are all slower than 4831SC.

Any of these will work, just watch for pressure, all powders do not act alike, some have temp stability problems. Mainly double and triple base powders. some are stable till you hit a specific pressure then they skyrocket.
H1000 and Retumbo are both Temp stable and Ideal for this cartridge, the H1000 burns cleaner so thats what I choose to run.
Some of the other powders above may be just as good but I personally have not messed with them.

What do you think about the Redding 7SAUM 3 die comp set with the VLD seater? I like the micro bushing die as it allows me to size the neck to the shoulder which makes turning easier
Attached is a table showing some QL runs with the powders you named above. They are based on the following assumptions:
1. 24 in tube
2. 130 VLD Hunting Pointed, BC assumed to be 0.600
3. COAL 2.825
4. Case H2O 73gr
5. Pressure as close to 55kpsi without going over

Please see attached chart. 2 series are shown with different COAL and Twist. Also added powder type and percent of powder burnt to second series. With the longer COAL and slower twist, 2 MV's stayed the same (but all used more powder). RL25 and Retumbo burning 100% of powder will probably leave very clean barrels ;-)

These are QL predictions so they vary from rifle to rifle, but should be very close within 5% Using this data will be safe and work up or down accordingly. I do know that the 63 gr load of H1000 on the 130 at 2.900 nets real close to 3200 when the rifle is good and broke in. And pressure trace shows 55,300 PSI
George asked me to run some numbers in Quickload for the other powders we could use in the 6.5 4S. I have not personally tested any of these powders and these findings are completely speculation but here is some data based on my numbers. Based on these numbers it looks like any of these listed powders would be good substitutions for H1000.

I've shot Ramshot magnum in both the bbls I have chambered in the SAUM. One with an 8 twist with a .109" freebore and one with an 8.5 twist and your reamer design with the .081" freebore. Both have shot extremely well. The 8 twist I was getting 3180 with 64.7 grains of powder and a 140 JLk in a 24" bbl. 62 grains gave me 3030 for a velocity. I'm still tweaking on the 8.5 bbl and haven't shot across the chronograph yet. Hopefully this weekend.

12 More Extreme hunters coming out of assembly, i saw the first couple through the test fire room today. Started another 12 today!!.
I am thinking this thread is why Midway was out of stock on all their Norma 7 SAUM brass today an hour after they sent me email.
I have a set of dies from whiddon on the way, and a rifle being built here in using using your reamer. Will I be able to get away with using current whiddon dies until the new one arrives and setting it to size just the neck?
Here's what 67 grains of Retumbo looks like in a twice fired and sized 6.5 Saum case. I'm using 63 grains of Retumbo which fills the case halfway up the shoulder. 63 grains is a medium load in my rifle but it's throated out farther than normal. I'm not going to try it but I bet 67 grains of Retumbo would give 3300 fps/140's in my rifle with it's 29" barrel.
The line, "lighter color of brass", you see just below the bottom of the neck into the shoulder, was the bottom of the neck when the case was 300SAUM after I neck turned. I did "not" cut into shoulder when I did this. When I annealed the cases today it made the line more apparent.

Some of my cases also have the same type of ridge and not beveled . Are they still acceptable ? Using dies from copper creek and K&M trimmer . Just to add this is the 1st time I have done any bushing / necking down.
