Rifle Scopes New Primary Arms PLXC 1-8 FFP

No the patent holder of the reticle will not release the full files but he will do a custom drop chart if you have velocity data. Also the beauty of the ACSS reticles is you zero according to the manual and your drops are on
The reticle isn’t magical. It’s a useful tool, but all the cartridges/barrel lengths in the zero guidance are rough estimates. Every barrel and load is going to be a little different in muzzle velocity. And what if I’m going to be in a high altitude area for a while. My trajectories will be different. Should I send my velocity, BC, and elevation information to Dimitri for updated drop numbers every single time I travel, get a new barrel, or try a new load?

Virtually every single scope manufacturer provides the specifications to their reticles publicly. Because it is key information for the user. The only other exception that I know of is Horus, but they at least provide a mobile app to check your external ballistics against the reticles.

Well that's wildly unhelpful. I've got barrels from 10.5" to 22" in about .5" increments and shoot in temps from -10 to 100 degrees at several different elevations. Am I going to get a custom drop chart for each possible barrel length and then a sub chart in 20 degree increments also? And then when it doesn't true up quite right at distance am I going to request a drop chart with a 5% BC decrease or a 30fps increase, attempt to true again then get another slightly modified drop chart and try again?
On top of that, myself and many other people use Strelok as a shopping tool when looking to make purchases. If I can't play with the reticle a little before I buy it hurts the chances I'll commit to a higher dollar scope.

If the reticle is indeed patented, then there is no need to obfuscate. That's the point of patents: protecting your IP(especially if it is easily reverse engineered).

Additionally, anyone who seriously wanted to "steal" the data could very easily purchase a scope and measure the sub tensions on a a calibrated grid. It's not complicated.

Not releasing the data is double-pointless and steers away customers who might otherwise be interested.

You guys are really over thinking this. It’s a combat BDC. A torso at 600 yards is 3 MOA. It has turrets if you need 1 MOA precision.
They include a how to zero chart based on your chosen bullets and velocity. Example, 77smk at 2700 fps should be 1 inch high at 100 yards.

Seems like unadulterated arrogance...

One could probably just reverse engineer the images.

I just want to know if the horseshoes are obstructing.

Maybe for your purposes we are. I rarely have the luxury of targets that big and I've never had the time to dial on the clock. Getting BDC's dialed in for say a 10" target out to 600 is pretty important for me.
Zeroing an inch high at a given range seems good in theory, but it works as well as zeroing at 25 and assuming you're on at 300. Maybe if you just need to hit a human sized target somewhere it's fine, but it's far from precise.

Is the horseshoe on the m8 meter version bigger than the m8 yard version? If so will it make the reticle on the m8 meter version faster to pick up at 1× power?
Yes. 5 mils on yards 10 on Meter version. I will call reticle patent holder today and tell him I am getting beat bloody for not sharing more numbers on the BDC

Pre ordered a PLx-1-8X24mm FFP Rifle Scope - Illuminated ACSS Griffin MIL M8 Reticle. Can’t wait! If it is as clear as my Delta Stryker which is also from LOW, this will be an awesome scope. Plan to mount it on a Scalarworks mount to maximize weight savings.

I've looked through both and the primary arms has clearer glass, mainly because it has no distortion at the edge(alteast on my Stryker). Love my Stryker and it's the best lpvo on a budget imo, but the PLxC 1-8 is better glass.

Geez, I really can’t wait now. Until I read it somewhere, I had not looked for or noticed the distortion on the Stryker. It seemed as clear as my VCOG without the weight penalty (I use a Scalarwprks LEAP). I still don’t notice it much so really curious to get my hands on the PA scope.

I think it varies Stryker to Stryker. Mine is on the last quarter outside edge, but it's crystal clear in the center. All that said, the PA sample size of one in my experience was some of the best glass I have looked through so far.

Reticles are on Strelok now.

The meters version, but using it in yards, is looking pretty good for my 12.5” Criterion barrel shooting Black Hills 77gr TMK.

1.7” mount, zeroed at 50 yards, 0.1 mil low

6mph wind dots

Meters reticle, but these drops are in yards. Only issue is the range estimate is still meters, but the sizes of people change so much the range estimate should still be okay for quick needs.

Whats your MV?

.
Patents cover how something is made to work or in the case of a design patent how it looks. The exact data used to produce a reticle could be used to make a reticle that leaves off some element like wind holds and potentially not be protected. There is a lot of time and work in producing, testing and confirming that the reticles work as intended. It would be very difficult to put the scope on a collimator and reverse engineer the exact data. That is why we protect it. It is easy to get things to line up to 300 yards but when you get to 800 and 1,000 the exact measurement matters.

So would it be fair to assume that the drops and first 2 wind holds on the PLXc Meters in Strelok are a match for the ACSS Aurora TA31? Or is there a chance that one gets into Strelok eventually too?

All reticles should be accessible in Strelok now

They are. Lord knows I dislike the user interface in that app, so this is officially the first time I found use for it. That justified paying for it.

Interestingly, where I live the M8 Meters reticle is just about dead on for yard-based distances with the 77gr SMK ammo and 200 yard zero.

I completely agree with these guys. ☝️

Not a fan of the app and this is the only reason I finally gave in and bought the pro version...

The funny thing is that I do not really need the app. I measured the reticle dimensions and can use it just fine with a normal ballistic calculator.
However, since Primary Arms did not release the exact reticle dimensions, I shouldn't either and I needed a snapshot of what the reticle looks like with holds for the video I published on this scope a couple of days ago.
It is a little bass ackwards, but I got my reticle snapshot with the holds, so I am happy.

So far, so good. My PLX-1-8 Compact with Mil reticle arrived today via FedEx. Shipping box was a bit banged but the product box was packed with good weight paper all around and appeared okay. Replaced the Delta Stryker 1x6 on my Type A rifle with the PLX. (The Stryker will likely go on a Henry Carbine. With my eye issues, can't see well unmagnified past 20 yards).

As I think was noted earlier, the reticle looks much better in person than the images suggest. It is quite visible at 8X but not overpowering. Even for me, stadia and numbers are clearly discernible after adjusting the diopter. The Delta Stryker is one of the lightest LPVOs available. The PLX appears to weigh almost the same, but is shorter and has a higher upper magnification. Will have to wait until Saturday to zero and have it out at the range but it did seem to me, looking around the house, that the PLX is slightly sharper.

Nice, I would have mine but FedEx is fucking around with my shipping. It's just showing pending, but out for delivery since yesterday.

It's been a long wait for the Griffin-MIL-M8 version, so there's been plenty of time to check out all the comments and reviews. I've been hoping I hadn't made a mistake in ordering one, as I was worried about reticle brightness. I was prepared to compromise, but not too much. Well, I had a shock coming...this thing is bright!

I'm not sure if my unit is extra bright or they're all this way, but I'm thrilled. No, it's not as bright as the Leupold FireDot on my trusty VX-R Patrol, but I've never actually used it at maximum brightness. It IS right up there with my Leupold Mark 6 1-6, another excellent FFP optic, with plenty of illumination for my purposes.

I think PA made a great call on the feature set for an optic in this price range. Sure, they could offer another tier with a diffractive reticle , but I'd bet most people wouldn't fork out the extra cash. I know I wouldn't.

I now have two of these scope: Mil reticle and Meters reticle. They are both staying here. It takes a pretty damn impressive design for me to keep two here.

Do you see either reticle as having an advantage for use at 1x? It looks like the donut is a different size.

Not even close to bright enough. If you actually ran your stuff in all environments you would know this.

Most people don't actually use their optics to their capability, so they have no idea what they should do and what the limitations are.

Come shoot in the snow with the sun out and let me know how good your illumination is.
Ive used glx 4-16 in col winter. Its illum is usable if not ideal. Vortex 1-6, 10 razors have great ill but really heavy on mt cross, kimber light weights. I use glx illum when game in shadows (pigs, hares in brush). I normally dont use illum in snow ( hares, coyotes, jack rabbits) Overall pkg is close to optimum- in 4x reticle collapses to “dot”, gigher power has great reticle for longer shots. And the repeatability of adjustments better most hunting scopes. My next will be plx 1-8 for pig hunting. Best fit for weight, repeatability, reticle (ffp, 1x red dot like, 8x long shots, repetable dialing, locking turrets) illum not best but usable.

Yeah I'm not sure about $1500, at that price just pay an extra $100 and get a Vortex 1-10 or save a bit of money and get the Vudu 1-10.
Had both razors, 1x6,1x10. Great scopes but way too heavy for my pig guns (sig cross, kimber hunter). The 4x16 glx is right overall comb - light weight, ffp reticle useful at 1x AND higher powers, repeatable adjustments, illum not razor but useful. My rifle / scope comb has to be best overall fit for running game, long range across fields (300 yards +), thermal clip on compatible and finally light and small enuf not to get in wayfor snap shots in brush. Last weekend went to tx, hogs wouldnt leave brush, so quik 10 yard snap shots was best. You need a light rifle, low comb height and scope ( not usefull ) that just doesnt get in way. I had 4 snap shots, 3 fatal and one hit hip (we quickly ran it down for coup grace.)

Im looking hard at plx 1x8, glx 1x6 for kimber.

I ran sig cross 6.5 CM with PA GLX 4-16 in several PRS matches, from 200 to 640 yards, using hunting ammo. Reasonable scores, and i got zeros , wind calls for extended ranges. Learned how, when to use reticle for elev, and when to dial. Scope was very capable and cemented PA for use onmy hunting rifles.

Shoots sig and kimber junk and then bitches about weight of optics.

Makes sense.

Hit the gym if an extra 8 OZ is too much for you.
I have an auto immune disease which lmited my strength. As for kimber and cross, they are good rifles in the field.
