Rifle Scopes New Razor????

This new Razor III is about the same price as a Zeiss. Has anyone looked through both and give us a intellectual opinion? I ordered a Razor HD II, 10+ weeks ago (no, I haven't gotten it yet), and, granted, the $$$ is much lower then 3K, but I'm considering canceling the order and either getting a HD III or the Zeiss. Comments/opinions?

And yet TT is charging people an extra $200 to get that color. LOL

Ah...not the same color, really. But agree...TT is apparently offering them in FDE....and black. haha

Not sure what you would call the Razor color...some sort of diseased bronze maybe.

Mostly joking but yes, on the gun pictured above with the grey chassis, that Razor color looks awful to my eye.

Ok, move along folks...nothing to see here! haha

Come on dude. That color is almost the exact same and not FDE. But doesn’t matter. It’s on a TT so it’s ok. Put it on a Vortex and it’s ugly. Lol

And yup that rifle above would shoot much better with a black scope.

Come on, dude...the colors aren't even close....and they offer it in black! haha

And who cares how it shoots....we're talking aesthetics here, mate. Its very important to look good as you miss! haha

And you are right...they are calling it Coyote Brown...but it looks more like FDE to me. Whatever, everybody seems to call diff colors by these names. LOL

Full disclosure, I run a Vortex on my deer .308 and am happy with it while I don't think I will ever give TT the money they want for their scope. But that may change when I win the Powerball! LOL

Cheers

No its not, not even close. Its between 500 and $1500 cheaper than the Zeiss. In fact, it was $1999 for a day before vortex killed the 50% off and went back to 40%. Only the MOA was in stock however.

Anyone paying $3K+ for this is a moron.

I highly doubt the Razor is going to rival the Ziess, ZCO or TT. The only Japanese manufacture that has even come close is March and LOW is not Deon. The comparable march optics are priced similarly to those mentioned above. You get what you pay for.

That rifle the TT is on is FDE. I bet if you put them next to each other in the same lighting they would be closer than you think.

Looksie... those who piss sitting down complaining about the color again.

I hear LV and Gucci are going to make matching heals and purses to go with this color for the upcoming fashon season. Maybe even a matching buttplug if you are lucky.
In real life, I own people who talk smack as poorly as you. #banuglyrifles

Since we're on the subject of color (Razor 2 goes great with krg green) some of the pictures I've seen look more toward the coyote from baron23 post than the Razor 2. Is the Razor 3 the same color as the Razor 2 or are they different?

Totally agree. My belly gun looks like it was built out of a junk yard. Still shoots great. I rather prefer the color of the Razor.

As I said, while there may be a mil standard on these colors somewhere, it seems like everybody calls diff colors by these names

Mate I know you have tonnes of Vortex stuff, but I have 3 G2 Razors, and cerakote a lot of stuff FDE.....

and those two colors aint close. Even Cerakotes Vortex Bronze is just an OK match.

No they aren't an exact match of course and might not even be "close" on a color chart but they are closer than some want them to be. LOL ;)

Yes, I’ve looked through both. The Zeiss at the precision rifle expo and the gen3, first at Vortex, and now at home. They’re both very nice! This gen3 is really an awesome piece of glass.

ETA waiting for the "but they offer it in black too" comments. LOL
Or the "it's too heavy" guys to go out and buy a weight system. lol

Krylon is about $5/can :)
Haha…that’s funny and makes me just want to run out and buy a new Razor…so I can paint it with a spray can.

Genius, right there.

:unsure::rolleyes::ROFLMAO:

Look, this isn't a big issue to me so the defenders of the Razor faith should consider chilling out a bit.

No, its not my fav color and yes, I thought it did look really fugly on that grey chassis with black iron. But I thought that my comments incl this:

"And who cares how it shoots....we're talking aesthetics here, mate. Its very important to look good as you miss! haha"

Would have provided a hint that I was mostly tongue in cheek.

But its still an ugly color!;):ROFLMAO:

You could pay for a nice cerakote job, I'm sure CS tactical could take care of that for you. Seems like color of the scope is the least important thing on a scope.

We can get that done, we'll probably do our first one soon. For example...

Nah, I have my eyes on a ZCO 5-27 as my next scope within a few months and I def plan to contact @CSTactical about it.

Aaaaaand, as I said above, I have a Vortex on my .308 deer gun and I'm quite happy with it.....especially since its black! haha ;)

... ATACR is in a somewhat different price category and they have probably the most dedicated fanboys (easily one of the most successful marketing campaigns) of any brand, but this should put a good bit of pressure on them.

I think some in this forum might get 'Vortex' etched into their tombstones
(and possibly embed a rusty pot-metal Harris bipod into the face).
So I think they are holding their own in the Fanboy department.:ROFLMAO:

I've had success with both brand's offerings.:)

Just got a couple in yesterday. I'm already really liking a lot of the changes that were made, even to the adjustment tool (metal instead of that plastic nub). A couple things. It comes with a switchview; however, if you're looking to use your old folding SV, you will need to get a different size as the ocular tube and magnification ring are smaller. For those asking about Aadmount or Tenebraex, I've never used them on my Vortex, so I can't confirm sizing unfortunately, but I can tell you the new 6-36 ocular tube has a slight taper, and depending on where you measure there's about .02-05 difference between the two. In regards to the comparisons for ZCO, NF, Leopould etc... Try to remember there is a $1K difference between the MAP on some of those. I have most of those others, and I'll be doing my own comparison on different magnification levels and distances.

Got to play with the GenIII a bit this weekend. Seems fine.

- Glass is probably approximately an ATACR or a bit less. Didn't do any side-by-side, but it wasn't immediately a shocker, like ZCO/TT/S&B
- Reticle "feels" good. It's pretty much the same as the Gen3XR in the scope
- Turrets feel less "poppy" than the Gen2
- "Only" one screw for zeroing turrets
- Fit and finish was average, in my view. Didn't strike me as exceptionally high quality, FWIW
- FOV is slightly larger than my TT. About .5mil larger at ~12x from what I could tell. The reticle goes to 5mil increments after ~10mil
- Eyebox seems very large. Image didn't get too weird at extremes, either. The image would just disappear before it got all purpley and fuzzy like some scopes

All in all, my unsolicited opinion is that it's a very good buy in the <$3000 category for competition scopes, but it's no game changer. Combined with the peace of mind in their warranty and the Gen2's track record, it'd be hard to beat dollar-for-dollar.

Thanks for that, still seems like a positive review. I'm still going to keep my ZCOs, but a 50% Vortex Cert (or 30% off MAP) makes it really hard to beat. Now I just need to shoot some more matches to snag one...

I’m still interested to see it. Not that ATACR glass is bad but I’ve never really put NF in that category. Now i haven’t seen the 7-35 but to my eyes the 5-25 belonged in the category with my Gen II/AMG/MK5/k525i as far as IQ was concerned it never really quite stood out in the TT/ZCO/ZP5/S&B category. Personally as good as NF is they’ve always kind of been the jack of all trades ace of none in my eyes. Strictly speaking on the 5-25 as that’s the only one I’ve owned and been behind significantly. I still have pretty high hopes considering ILya’s initial
Impressions, hopefully i get to put it next to my ZP5. I’ll take it to DST to put it next to some ATACRs and PMIIs.

I have one on order. I had a g2 and only sold it because I wanted to try a revic. Always liked the zero position markings on the turrets of the g2 for keeping track of zeros on the desert tech. Was looking real hard at a 5-25 Atacr partly because I love the mil-xt but the slightly wider fov on these and turret setup sealed the deal for me.

Big fan of the Mil-XT also and was hoping vortex would come up with something eerily similar without violating a patent lol. But the EBR7D certainly looks very usable.

It seems pretty well accepted that the 5-25 ATACR is a pretty considerable step down, glass-wise, from the 7-35 ATACR. Even the NF guys will tell you that the 7-35 is better in the image department.
My understanding is that the two scopes are even made in different factories, though that's not a rumor I can substantiate.

I’ve heard the same that essentially the 7-35 is the best NF has to offer. But to me it prices itself out of the equation IMHO. In that range I’m going to seek out one of the aforementioned as I personally don’t see the need for the extra mag, despite ordering a Gen III (ordered for the glass 😳). Maybe that opinion will change after using the Gen III for a while. I really hope that we also get a 3.5-21x50 that could be priced at $2500 and maybe a touch shorter. Though something tells me that won’t be happening this time around. I feel like if we get a shorter optic in that range it will come from the AMG lineup.

Yes, I think the ATACR is the best $3000 scope the world's ever seen. Too bad it's $3800.
