New Sig CROSS

Finally at the range with the rifle/ Sig Whiskey 5 3-15X scope. Shoots very well and I used the suppressor for the attached group at 100 yards with Federal 168 gr. HPBT. Recoil is manageable/ better with the suppressor on.

Thanks to the forum for all the advise.

I picked one up from Bass Pro the other day. I am pretty impressed with it. It’s not a custom rifle and it’s better than a typical box stock rifle, It’s the middle of the road. The stock adjustments are great. It’s super light which may make recoil a bear, but by the time you add an optic, bipod and a suppressor it may tame it.

Theis, doesn't Germany have some strict export laws for guns? I seem to remember it was a factor in the CSASS hold up. The interpretation is that it is related to the national personality shaped by WWII. Hypersensitive of Germany being viewed as both an economic powerhouse in Europe and a militaristic nation. American troops seen on international news carrying German guns in areas of the world that Germany doesn't support armed conflict and intervention in. Despite having several large firearms companies

What I saw with HK personally is the German Govt. NOT wanting to export to US I am assuming bc they feel our gun laws are Too Liberal. Notice they export to all of European Countries & Canada (probably more, I just know those ones for certain) non Neutered Exact Copies of their guns. HK has a state of the art Manufacturing Facility here in the US and they could have built whatever they wanted in Semi Auto there and they haven’t..

I have one in 308. I am liking the overall design of the rifle and the light weight, thin profile of how it was manufactured. As others have stated, the stock hinge has a little play in it, wish it had a solid and zero play lock up. Hope in the future I can replace the hinge with something better. Used metal AICS mag, and the regular Magpul 5 round they sell of the shelf with no issues.

I have gotten the 168 SMK to shoot pretty decent, like JWolfs had posted, but not happy with using that bullet for use. Has anyone gotten 175 SMK to group? I have used 118 LR and MK316, and groups are 2moa with that ammo. If you have gotten the 175's to shoot, what did you use?

If anyone is wondering, the Elite Iron bipod with standard interface, keeps the barrel and handguard centered within the interface, makes for a nice slim profile.

What would it take to get a proof barrel fitted up on one of these? Love the rifle but want a 22" CF barrel on it. I would assume that it would balance ok since guys are doing pretty well with the stock 18" barrel and a can on it.

FYI Sig has the 5 round mags with the modified follower in stock if you're into that. I was looking for a full length top rail but still nothing on that front.

Just picked up a Cross in 6.5cm. Robbed my vudu 5-25 off my spr build. Overall quality is impressive. Buttstock is solid with no wiggle. Going for the lightest packable setup. Probably won't get out to test accuracy for a little while. My nomad can will be going on this rig, which will make it a perfect length.

Mine is 12.2 lb. on bathroom scale, I’m not packing it up a mountain, just casual shooting.
Half the weight is probably in the Razor, lol. I was going back and fourth about putting my spare Razor on it, but for hunting/shooting I love the MD3 reticle on the vudu. Less cluttered than the ebr7c. What kind of groups are you seeing and what ammo does it like? I shoot 140 eld match out of my comp rig, so hoping to see comparable results out of the Cross.

I shot it yesterday and today, I don’t get most of my reloading components till tomorrow but my wife purchased some 129 Hornady soft tips. I just told my wife to try academy and see if they had anything in stock and that’s what she came home with.

I zeroed it and shot a group today. I pulled the first shot as it’s been a while since I got behind a precision rifle, I got my stuff together and stacked 4 halfing each other with soft tip, in which I was impressed. I took it out to 800 and put the rest on some steel. So far it’sa nice rifle.

Thats great to hear. Excited about this rifle!

Sooooo... good news and bad news. The good news is, it shoots REALLY well without a suppressor. Milsurp and Prvi both at about 2 MOA and Hornady ELDX at 1 MOA.

The bad news is, with the Rugged Micro 30, that opens up to about 6 MOA and 3 MOA respectively. It is so bad that I can't even figure out if the POI drifts or not.

I'm happy with the rifle, but I don't know what to make of the suppressor issue. My Steyr Scout loses a bit of accuracy, but not like that.

I find that my Surefire 762 SOCOM quick detach actually improves 100 yard accuracy and grouping a bit (308 Sig Cross). My best accuracy at that distance was with Federal Gold Match HPBT 168 grain. I have almost as good with Federal 150 gr. coppertip (hunting ammunition.)

My thanks to the thread for case suggestions.

If that suppressor is user serviceable and the baffles are clipped it would be worth ensuring that you have all the baffles lined up with each other so the clips are in line.

Whelp... about that. It is not user serviceable to that extent, but the end cap is intended to come off and one can add an extension that adds 1.5 inches and quiets it down a bit. It works except for one small problem. The end cap welds itself to the tube. Not just a little bit. I've sent it back to Rugged twice already and have given up. The last time I sent it back, it had about 100 rounds between cleanings on a bolt action rifle and they had to drill it off. I've tried anti-seize which does work, but I took it to a class where I cleaned it after the first day. At the end of the 2nd day, it was welded on again so I've decided to be happy with it being in the short configuration.

Well, I was happy until I saw how it affected the accuracy of the Cross. Like I said, I've had this on a Steyr Scout and while it drops the accuracy a bit, it hasn't been enough for me to abandon it. I'm a practical shooter and not a long range guy. I hunt and as long as it is "minute of deer" at 300 yards, I'm good. The Cross is fine without the can but unusable with it. At least with that can.

Check your suppressor. I had one start doing crazy stuff and a quick look down the bore showed I had some damage at some point that I never knew had happened. You can also put it in another rifle to see if you get the same issue.

All of these 6.5s are making me jealous, I think I'll probably wind up parting ways with my .308 and replacing it with a Creedbro. I won't have any more chances to hunt this year anyway and I'm a 6.5 man at heart.

How is your PMAG/OEM mag from Sig fit?

good point. The supplied mag has a bit of wobble too, it’s just less noticeable since it’s 5rds. This is my first rifle with a detachable box mag, so I’m unclear if *any* wobble is acceptable. With the 10rd AI, if I hold the rifle and shake my wrist, you can clearly hear the mag making a “Wakka wakka wakka” noise in the mag well. Does this sound acceptable or is this a reason to bring my brand new rifle to a gunsmith lol?

Edit: Additional research on my part suggests that some side to side play is fine as long as rounds feed properly.

Accuracy update.

components: Hornady 140 Amax using IMR 4350 39.8-42.2 grains with no pressure signs.

I shot 9, 5 round groups. Two were .5, and most were .6ish, I did screw up one group at 1”, but that was my fault. In summery the gun shoots very well, now I don’t know what charge weight to go with because they where all very good.

Where you located ill trade you my cross 6.5 barrel for your 308

With SIG you never know what is vaporware even if the head of Sig production promises it on video at SHOT (those MPX caliber conversion kits have been promised for 5 years now, and P210 6" is only 4 years late) That said I'm more interested in some of the rumored Cross versions coming up. Evidently there's going to be an even lighter carbon barrel version, a long action version, and a PRS version. That said we might never actually see them.

I have relied on this forum for much good information but just recently registered here. I've eagerly awaited an opportunity to buy a Sig Cross and finally found one at Sportsman's Warehouse a few weeks ago. I have some concerns and I would like to ask you guys:

Does anyone else have an 1/8" (not an exaggeration) of overtravel (movement) after the trigger breaks?

What are people's thoughts on muzzle breaks for the cross?
Impovised positions, etc does the rifle move around abit more than you were planning on, etc?

It better not move around much....you have maintain your trigger control to account for all that trigger overtravel.

Just kidding. Now I know my particular rifle is not flawed it is just a design characteristic. Thanks for the info.
Everyone likes different things. My preference in a trigger is not what Sig provides. I will correct that when a good aftermarket trigger becomes available. I emailed Timney and they said they might be offering something next year.

I haven't fount the trigger to be too much of an issue, but the gun is pretty light, seems to want to skip around a touch. Thinking a brake might just add a bit of something to help out (...if not using a moderator, etc)
