I will posit that X cartridge using some neato science to achieve
the effect of Y cartridge assumes that you can actually find X cartridge in stock.
Ammo shortages during COVID had me think about comparing the most available ammunition in X cartridge to the most available ammunition in Y cartridge.

So, "Dick" says that 9mm is a "good round," but that it does not match the performance of .45acp. He does say that 9mm will penetrate deeper, but if you compare 9mm to .45acp of "similar technology," then .45acp will make bigger holes, likely require less rounds shot to stop a threat and will go through barriers such as Windshields better than 9mm.

He also completely took the FBI testing out of context. They didn't claim the 9mm surpasses all of the .40 and .45 projectiles. Just that select 9mm bullets perform better than most .40 and .45. Which obviously doesn't include all when you say most.

This. You're always compromising with a handgun. It's used as a duty weapon for its size and such.
Hence why you never choose your handgun over your rifle except for special circumstances (if you have a rifle that is).

Moment Florida cop misakes ACORN for shots fired

I can tell most of you did not watch the video. While I do not agree with Dick, he did cover .40, .357 Sig and most of the topics mentioned in replies. He uses the phrase "comparable technology" as a crutch to his argument that 9mm does not provide the same performance as .45acp when compared "apples to apples" in technology.
The guy in the video makes YT content that normally get 500 to 1500 views. I'm not going to hammer on him for the same topic that has been debated since the beginning of the internet. He isn't Ayoob.
I get more views than that with only 380 subs... If he has almost 12K subs, and only averages those view numbers, then he's either paying for subs, or his content isn't worth watching or he's choosing some very unpopular topics to discuss...
Watched the video and his entire premise is flawed. His comparable technology is moot because the FBI testing already says that. There are projectiles in .40 and .45 that perform better than 9mm.
He decided to focus on one point that he took out of context, and then used a crutch to make it sound legit.
FBI testing did not focus solely on terminal ballistics.
9mm might expand, but .45 ain't gonna shrink

You can keep everything the same, but do better thumbnails and titles. You have about 1 second to grab someone's attention, that's where you'll grow the channel.
I'm not trying to be a professional YouTuber. I have a job that pays me pretty damn well. I just record short video clips of exactly what I do when I'm not recording. I started making the type of videos that weren't available back when I was first getting into NFA, and nobody made honest sound recording videos of different suppressors on different cartridges and stuff. Everyone always clipped the audio so it sounded stupid-quiet, and like Hollywood shit. Which, as we all know isn't realistic. I only make them so maybe it helps someone make an informed decision on a can purchase, so they have some kind of idea what they're getting.
How can I do better on the titles? They literally tell you exactly what you will see in the video. I hate that clickbait title bullshit just to draw people in. I have thought for a long time I need to do better thumbnails, so I do appreciate that constructive criticism. We're on the same page about that one. I just need to figure out what to do to make them better.
I thought the FBI study had more to do with the fact 85+% of shots fired miss so they opted for higher capacity and shootability

Sensei Clint mentioned something along the lines of "a handgun is something you fight your way to a rifle with". Of course we have to agree that pistols will have to "do" when proximity to a rifle is not in the cards.
About 30 years ago, I thought the 9mm was far inferior to the 45. To a certain extent, it prolly was especially when you consider how bad the bullet tech was then. I decided to keep the 9mm as my sole carry caliber anyway and just worry about being able to put a bunch into a target really F'ing fast.
Fast forward to today and I really do not feel under-gunned with current premium 9.

2 weeks ago there was an OIS that started as a domestic/hostage. Bad guy gave both fingers to the Negotiator and was shooting up the entire area with two rifles and a pistol. Bad guy tries to make a break out by himself in a pickup truck.
He takes one .308 round through the DS window*, crashes the truck and exits while shooting and running into dense cover. He takes 3 rounds of 5.56 and is still reaching for a dropped weapon when he takes a second .308 round that shuts him down totally. Total rounds fired was 3 x .308 and 5 x 5.56. Of the 5 hits sustained, 3 were non-survivable yet he was still shooting until the last 5.56 round and still trying to get his gun picked up at the last .308 Round.
Soooo..... he was dying, just not fast enough. This kind of shit is where a dead person can still kill you.
Totally clean toxicology on the bad guy.
He was simply totally committed and when the 1st round didn't kill him, his physiology went into survival mode. Almost all animals will do the same thing if wounded and you have to damned near shoot them to pieces to put them down.
On the other end of the spectrum, people have died after going into shock from being hit in the arm with a 22LR because they thought they were supposed to die when you get shot.
Go figure.
Gonna add this incident to go with the above story to combat the inevitable ".45 stopping power" input and anecdotal stories.

Years ago some neighbors had bull get loose and go on a rampage. He was tearing all sorts of shit up and not a fence could survive. He went out on the road and attacked cars and pickups. Charged a few people, I was told. The call went out that they had decided to kill the bull and wanted all people to be aware and scared of this beast. I figured I'd go volunteer. Just so happened that when I went outside with my 1911, he was stomping right by my old truck. Cop cars were following and people were chasing. I ran towards him and shot him once in the neck from over the hood of my truck from about 10 feet. He just turned and came at me but thank goodness for that old Chevy. He jumped up the hood with his front legs and was pissed. I unloaded the magazine (the only one I had) practically touching him in the head as fast as I could pull the trigger. Turned and ran for the door. One of the other neighbors hit him with a 12 gauge slug in the neck and that knocked him down but he was getting back up so another slug. That bull had been shot something like 50 or more times with all sorts of pistol rounds. He still took 2 12 gauge slugs.
Ever since then, I practice mag dumps with the pistol. I'm not saying as fast as I can pull the trigger but as fast as I can get back to the sights.
I'd still rather have a pistol than have to rely on a blade for self defense.

In the FBI’s famous 1986 Miami shootout, the first round to hit Platt in the arm, and coming to rest in the thorax somewhere, is the round that killed him. He fought for awhile after that before he expired.

I know this was covered before but no. None of those are dramatically better than any other handgun cartridge that expands and penetrates.
Outside of a few boutique cartridges and handguns not suitable for duty or self defense in the context of daily life, no pistol cartridge has the ability to do much damage outside of its expanded bullet diameter. So long as it penetrates enough, its muzzle velocity is completely meaningless.
All more recoil does is make a pistol harder to shoot rapidly with sufficient accuracy.
The last I heard the Failed Bureau of Investigation, in 1986 after the disasterous shootout, went to 10mm, because the bank robber was shot in the chest with their "then current" best 9mm ammo. The perpetrator was an ex-army ranger and he lasted 90 seconds, enabling him to kill several agents and wounded just about all of them... he had a rifle in 223 mini 14, I believe.
