Nikon 82mm Fieldscope & Pentax PF80ED?

I know these are two different animals and I'm not wanting a comparison of one against the other.

Neither of these scopes gets any mention here and I was wondering why. Is it a size\weight issue? Performance/durability?

They get very high marks at their respective price points and I was wondering what's up?

I would say they are direct competitors.

They are both excellent scopes a lot better than their price suggests when comparing to zeiss/leica, etc. I have not looked through the nikon 82, but the Pentax is excellent.

I think they don't get much press because they are not tactical looking, and don't have one of the european name brands attached.
Additionally, they do not have reticles, nor are they compact.

What can you see in them at 600m and 1000m?

I had no problems spotting hits on steel at 1000 yards with the Pentax. Conditions were poor for spotting, bright sun with lots of mirage.

I can say I have used the Pentax and had no problems spotting holes on paper at 600. Very good glass and top notch for the money.

I will add that I am very picky about spotters because most spotters are not as good as my S&B on my rifle so with that said the Pentax, Zeiss spotter 60 or Vortex Razor HD would all be good choices. My first pick would be the spotter 60 but it is more money.

Pentax also had a PF100ED for a limited time. It was even better but supposedly they did not sell many of them and they discontinued them. If you could find one of the PF100's for sale used that would be a solid choice for sure.
