As someone who is in this boat (different industry), you are 100% correct. The only alternatives are to run it until you die at your desk or to go public.
I know fours guys that work for Barrett. They are ramping up production and nothing is changing. All this hand wringing is for naught. NIOA wants to make money and they have met with the employees in TN. More investment and production on the way.
There's also the multi-generational family company, but that's very hard to pull off.
The Barrett we once new is now gone. Soon to no longer sell to civilians. Mark my words.
This makes me feel a bit better in my investment to the mrad. Still just bothers the shit out of me for some reason.
I had a tinge of regret buying an AXMC over the MRAD last summer. Not any longer.

What I CAN say is that NIOA are currently AU's largest MIL/LE supplier. They sell to civilians, but majority of their industry is MIL.
As for short term, NOTHING will change. It's business as usual, same products, same management, same employees (with some shuffling).
Some production will relocate to AU (bolt rifles, nothing MIL used).
If you look up how the Aussie supply contracts work for govt->MIL, it makes sense. American made, can supply US entities, Aussie owned, can supply AU entities.
Think CZ-USA, or Beretta, etc... It's a "partnership". Countries usually require their gear to be made IN COUNTRY.. nightforce is a wholy owned Aussie company. NOT USA owned.. it's just a manuf plant.

I wonder if you have one of the early large breech models. If so you need a breech conversion kit.
So the one without the shelf is an older style that doesnt use the retained cross pin. Call barrett customer service, ask for Franz and tell him you need a bolt and cross pin for the older style.

You should be more worried about American politicians and companies getting into bed with the wrong crowd, if the past 3 years have taught us anything.
It's kind of funny seeing ignorant idiots mouthing off about NIOA stopping domestic sales of large cal rifles in the US when they were literally importing 416 and 50 cal chambered rifles for civilian sales in Australia before the purchase.

Thankfully our new Government has said they will remove the administraion of firearms away from the Police, who have shown themselves to be both inept in the administration but also completely ideologically opposed to firearm owners and willing to throw as many hurdles in their way as possible.
We will see how it pans out but hopefully it looks less like a trajectory towards what you poor bastards have in Aus, and something more like what we used to have which was actually a pretty good compromise.
Also not buying Barrett firearms is ridiculous. It is still made in America by American craftsman. Who cares if the owner who is 1 guy is Australian. The majority of their workforce is American taxpayers. In fact the new ownership give a fresh influx of money and technology into the business. Also Ronnie and his son are still executive consultants for the company.
