NOBODY is safe!

Re: NOBODY is safe!

Yep, lessons learned. I cheated myself giving my services for $32 an hour, most guys with my skillset make between $35 and $45 an hour.
I won't make that mistake again.

Sad part is, I just took my white feather off my monitor.
It has been there since February 23, 1999. (Carlos Hathcock's passing day)

Now the dumb thing is, my VW Scirocco comes out of the paint shop today and between that and hte upholstery my savings is near gone.

I hope JW#3 will be able to help sell this to someone down in Kali as cars have more value down there....(JW Ya hear that!) LOL

Eek on the savings being mostly gone! However, that will just help motivate you to get out and find that kick-ass job you should have had in the first place!

C'mon,Don't you miss 'ol Humble?

Re: NOBODY is safe!

AL,
You are way too talented for that kind of pay scale.
Open your own IT consulting and services business for small business clients and don't look back.

My current overhead is three USB flash drives, a netbook, and gas money.

$65/hour

Re: NOBODY is safe!

Sorry to hear this Arc.

Take stock of all your assets, skills, network of friends and colleagues and try not to dwell on the unfairness of your situation.

This sucks and there is no way to sugarcoat it. But there are plenty of stories out there of people way worse off and with far fewer tools in their box with which to recover.

I wish you the very best of fortune in your new path.

Re: NOBODY is safe!

It's a new day, I was exhausted tired yesterday when they hit me with that so that did not help matters.

Today is a new day, going to wait it out - when the fiscal year 10 money runs out I'm unemployed, until then - got things to take care of.

But I'm kind of looking forward to change now, a good 2 or 3 month vacation, work under the table, and then see where life takes me...

Re: NOBODY is safe!

That sucks to hear, best of luck to you man. Not even on a Friday, either. Crazy bastards, hopefully they'll realize what they've lost. I agree with Tucker - you're good at what you do so you could just go in for yourself. There are plenty of people around here that I help out with my extremely limited knowledge, so I can only imagine the business you could have in your neck of the woods with your knowledge. Again, best of luck and keep your head up & looking forward!

Re: NOBODY is safe!

Well guys - today was phenomenal - I did a backup of my servers and gave to the gov..

Then I went to a job interview.

The word "Shoe-in" was spoken to me many times.

I thought the same. Ahh, the good old days when I didn't think "damnit, Frank should check ID's at the door" at least twice a day.

I'm still scratching my way by after getting laid off 12/08. I never got the sack of Obama cash I was promised, so things have been touch and go for a while.

NOBODY was back as freshkills for a while. Did he get banned again?

Re: NOBODY is safe!

Just got back to work Tuesday after another unpaid "Vacation". In this economy I consider 6 months a year in my chosen field of work a win . If this job runs as long as its supposed to I will get 8 months this year

Re: NOBODY is safe!

AL keep the faith man. 2 months ago I got laid off and it was the best thing that could hve happened. I started my new job refreshed and ready to work. I couldn't be happier with the change. I'm sure you will find something you will like.

I think he thought he was posting on the "you might be a redneck" thread.

Re: NOBODY is safe!

Still in limbo here, can't focus on work - asked for the Voluntary RIF yesterday and I want it to happen NOW .

This limbo c rap is for the birds, lets get this shit rolling NOW!

I'm actually looking forward to (as my sensei says) "Kickin' it down a notch".

I'm also not looking for work, it's time for a sabbatical - game plan is to take one year off...

Re: NOBODY is safe!

So I called to ask my departure date and was told I can hang around till the fiscal year, or can voluntarily leave, WITH the severance package any time I choose.

Couple months, bank a couple of K and maybe sell off a few guns I don't shoot and I'll be good 2 go...

Re: NOBODY is safe!

Hey Arctic, I know your in IT just not sure what field or what your looking for if anything. I may be able to help depending as we are hiring for a number of positions throughout the US. I'll shoot you a PM.

Re: NOBODY is safe!

Hey all - I was called up by my bosses - bosses boss yesterday.

New contract, they need someone with my skills BAD, 6 someone's actually.

But I told him I had other interests going on and a few other opportunities, but perhaps a "Business decision" could be made if the incentive were there.

So if we get the contract I SHOULD be getting $1. to $2. an hour raise, working over at the other navy base in town (Submarine)...

In actuality the job looks fascinating - you bubble heads know what TTF is....

Re: NOBODY is safe!

Good to hear.
Told you in another thread already, ITs are likely to be hired back from the very same company, more than any other job

Re: NOBODY is safe!

Awesome deal. I'm glad to hear things turned your way. But hey, you've got a skill set that is in demand that you worked hard to develop. You'll always have an advantage over people who just do enough to get by. Congrats.

Re: NOBODY is safe!

Ya did a phone interview at 9pm last night - it sounds like an interesting job but in the end it turns into a maintenance job and none of it is what my skills would be put to use for.

So still on the unemployment roster but at least I know there are jobs out there.

Rather not get stuck in another job where I know layoffs WILL eventually hit me, or one that I would not be happy doing.

Re: NOBODY is safe!

not worried about that, I have plans, what i am worried about is later this year when the fed gov runs out of mo ney - we're talking DOD RIFs to Govt people.

Govt always lays off the contractors first but when they are all gone - the RIF's will be forth coming.

Related to the base realignment and closure committee (BRACC).

It's coming, rumblings of it are starting hard, and fast...

Right now they are shifting people away from this base to other bases and encouraging retirements..

Re: NOBODY is safe!

Arctic,

Same story over here mate. Cuts down to the very bone.

And you're right, NOBODY is safe. We've got guys been with the company 25 years, man and boy. Just as vulnerable, if not more so, than the rest of us. Probably more vulnerable, as they are higher up the pay scale, ergo more expensive to keep.

Once a company loses that team, with that skillset...... They NEVER get it back.

Good luck to you. I'm praying for you and others on this site (Sobrbiker, that's you and you, Mike).

Good hunting.

Something good will come along.
