Rational and logical thinking are at a premium. EOTW mentality and reasoning are the norm. Currently in FL and had planned a Disney trip, but closing all the parks tonight for 2 weeks. A lot of Canadians here snowbirding and the ones that flew here are terrified that they might be banned from flying home, and if they get home, going into voluntary isolation for 14 days. And now hearing Mexico is going to close the border to keep us infected Americano's out of their country. Oh the irony of it all!

I would bet a roll of TP (actually I am all out and been wiping with tshirts then using as fuel to cook my beans) that stores will clamp down on the bulk buy stuff much much quicker next time (if we survive this).

I went to a nicer grocery store in a better part of town yesterday and they had some meats, some milk, some fruits and veggies and an example of what I mean is they had no bananas but had 7 varieties of apples, so I bought apples, not a big deal to me. Plenty of frozen foods too

They also had canned stuff, and cereal, but again not everything, so depending on how picky you are, it could matter or it could not matter. I eat just about anything, my normal life is I buy what is on sale, so now my normal is I buy what is there and if on sale... bonus!

I went to a super mega walmart this morning in a poorer part of town, 7-8 miles separate these areas, because I was curious. I am as some suggest using this time to take notes and store up some research on how something serious might play out

The walmart had lots of stuff too (but no TP and no cleaning supplies) very slim on lunch meat, but tons of cheese and they did have some canned goods (beans, meats, etc) but the choices were slim. I didn't feel like I was unable to buy close to my weekly shopping for a family of 4, again, not being super picky about the brand or exactly which fruit I bought.

Neither store had long lines, I was able to get some stuff and leave without getting stabbed

Just got back from local store. Smallish town. Kids on spring break. Opens at 0600. Was onsite at 0745.

Store was pretty damn well stocked. Much better than last time I went.

-tons of fresh fruit and veggies still. Although carrots were low. Tons of fresh meat and poultry. But round these parts freezers are stocked with deer, turkey, and a variety of wild game. So....

-bread is back on the shelves. Not in great number, but it was there.

-pasta was back but in limited supply.

-tons of frozen veggies, frozen meals, frozen fruit, pizza, etc. Full stock.

-lots of cheese, eggs, butter and milk. Full stock.

-canned veg, fruit, snack packs, granola bars, soup etc in near full stoxk.

Noticeables that were still out of stock.

-rice still out but plenty of rice a roni and the type of box rice.
-no sugar
-tp of fkn course but plenty of paper towels
-iso alcohol and hand sanitizer was still out
-giant run on tylenol. Last time I was there shelves full, now mostly gone.
-flour completely out
-only a few packages of yeast left (after we took about a dozen packs)
-no ramens

We might be crazy but we been taking food to the folks and dropping it off outside. Following the social distancing thingy. Mom is 81 and is definitely not in greatest shape at all. Dad is 87, a bit better but not by much. Did get them set up using video conferencing so we can still feel somewhat normal. I think it takes some of the edge off.

My dad, 78, mentioned a similar rule. It should limit exposure for those geezers that have to go out. if the virus can be airborne for 3ish hours the stores should be pretty safe after being empty of other customers overnight.

Yeah. And they are alledgedly deep cleaning each night here as well.

Pretty good idea IMO. Not failsafe by any means but if this helps to reduce possible exposure, at least in near term then...

Plus like most things, there is no silver bullets of sorts...but the aggregation of smaller mitigation steps is where you see positive return and reduce risk.

IDK where your AO is, but meat here was well stocked.

Paper products are another story. Some paper towels but thats about it.

Get creative. Sometimes that country mart type gas station will have a few boxes of kleenex or a few rolls of paper towels (at a higher cost of course).

Best bet for paper products here has been dollar store.

The walmart and home depot the town over have been sold out for a week. And when they do get it in it is gone in hours. So you have to time it.

The supply chain is fine. The inventory is fine. It's the panic rush to buy up everything that is stressing the system.

I for one am thankful for the idiots in my community. Our local grocery store needed the help and now the produce is fresher than ever. The produce used to sit on the shelves for longer than it was suppose to. Now I don't have to travel 20 minutes to get fresh produce. I hope the idiots keep it up after the crisis is over.
