I ordered a magnetoSpeed V2 and it is enroute to me now.... I woke up in the middle of the night last night with the realization that the 16 inch barrel dosnt stick out of the hand guard very far...has anyone tried using a magnetospeed with a 16 inch on a covert? it says it can be used on a 2 inch supressor, could i just attach it to the handguard instead of the barrel? My chasis is still a the cerakote guy, does anyone know what the diamater of the front end is?

I'm in the same boat. I'm going to remove the side rails and move the bottom rail back so I can mount the Magneto Speed V2 to the handguard. Will post a picture tonight and head to the range in the morning. I might try mounting the magneto on the side so I have room to sandbag or bipod in the front.

YouTube reviewer says the the A1 Handguard is 1.6" Wide and 2.0" Tall while the Quad Rail Handguard is 2.2" Width and Height.

Maybe use a QD Sling stud like the ADM one and mount the bayonet to it. Now just need to figure out how to mount the bayonet and still allow for adding/removing spacers. I'm thinking cassette style like the butt spacers.

The MagnetoSpeed definitely will not attach to the 16" barrel in a Covert chassis in a usable manner. I have an 18" .308 barrel from SAC and although it protrudes from the chassis an extra 2", it is still not long enough for the MagnetoSpeed to be attached to it. A workable solution to this issue would probably be of interest to a number of folks.

I ran into the same problem last year, which made me hang onto my traditional chrony as a backup. Otherwise, I use the Magnetospeed for the vast majority of velocity testing (moving up to v2 is a nice upgrade as well).

I think it looks pretty nice ! Little animation and floating text look good. Not sure how I feel about the loading a round directly into the chamber - doesn't the manual say not to do that - only load via mag? Anyway, the production seems very nice -lots better than my iphone videos :-0

I have a 22" .308 on a SRS-A1 and I don't think the MagnetoSpeed would attach to the barrel on it either. It would have to use the chassis. Since I run it suppressed, its not a worry for me, but I will try to see if I can rig it up on the chassis next time I am out.

Received my A1 Covert and noticed there is a plug where the monopod goes. Talked to Ryan at DTA and he said chassis being shipped now without monopods will have the plug. This eliminates the need for DTA to stock two different skins. Super cool, now to get my hands on a monopod.

Wow I ordered mine from DTA direct on 04/15/13 and still waiting. I guess it's a give and take because I did get 5% off for being military. If Euro optic offered that I would of ordered my 5k+ rifle system through them. Hopefully it's not to much longer.

I always like hearing from you guys even if it's not production related. I know you're working as hard as you can on our stuff and I really like how you are more connected with the end user than any other manufacturer I've ever seen. A bit thin-skinned there, Nick. My post was mostly tongue-in-cheek. Regarding your going away, I think we'd all appreciate the opposite approach. My only gripe with DTA was the lack of info being put out. A little late now, and I know you're not beholden to any website, but just one "this is what we're dealing with" post would have gone a long way. Especially coming from the president of the company. A little preventative maintenance works wonders. If you did that and I didn't see it, then I apologize. Disregard this post, and I'll wear the "A-hole of the Day" cap.

I'm willing to exercise patience for innvoation, but I just needed some info for planning purposes. In your defense, had I ordered directly through DTA, I might have my rifle by now. My dealer couldn't seem to get an idea of when units would be shipping, either. Maybe he's a large part of the problem. I don't know because I don't have any info. I have no doubts you guys are working hard. I've been in this game long enough to know delays and bottlenecks happen. I was around for the US Optics clean room hilarity. Like I said, my only gripe was your lack of strategic communication.

Take my advice or don't. Either way, one day soon I'll have my rifle, and my tune will change to the singing of DTA's praises.

BTW, Russ has done wonders for your brand on this site.

Be patient guys! I can tell you the wait is well worth it. My DTA SRS A1 has been a pleasure to shoot and barrel swaps are a breeze with repeatable POI. Great American company with innovative platform and great attention detail. Best precision rifle I now own. Nick and Russ have provided a lot of important insights in this Thread and I may start over reading from the beginning, but it has become more like a novel now, outlining the hard work of many individual in the company as they strove to provide improvements in their product that their customers requested. Hence the popularity of the Brand and all their products (rifles from Nick and his crew and ammo from Russ). I may see an HTI in my future, when things settle down! A great American success story, for sure.

Not many companies these days are as receptive or accommodating! It's usually "Take it or leave it (we don't give a rat's ass)" mentality.

Your patience will be amply rewarded. I guarantee it!

I'm pumped, I just sold a GAP to finance my Covert purchase without the wifey finding out. This is my my first DTA, I've been drooling over them for a while and this thread put me over the edge. Has anybody tried the Bobro mounts on the Coverts? I have a 34mm Bobro precision I got on trade from a top-notch member about a year ago that I've been waiting for a good use.

Can't use the bottom rail because the strap is maxed out. Easy fix is to get a longer strap. Next issue would be spacers. I'm using one thick rubber and one thick plastic spacer; if you had the bottom rail, you might get by with using the thin rubber spacer only,

Not sure if the blast from the side exhaust would cause issues but at that point, I would just remove the brake and not chance it. Now the QD rail mount mod would probable work. There is a couple of screws which connect the strap mount to the bayonet. Swapping out the strap mount with QD is doable. ADM also makes a bipod QD mount for the GG&G bipod and looks like. That would be a good starting point.

Neighbor just doesn't like having a gun range near his hayfields, he is an old timer who doesn't like seeing anything change, so he is WAS giving us grief and harassing us but can't anymore. We are up and running now and have been for a while and that is what matters.

HTI .50 just arrived (ordered @ SHOT). Friggin' awesome from fit and finish to weight and balance. My SRS likes having the company. The wait was torturous, the reward is well worth it. Now, if the .375CT conversion would just appear...Thanks DTA for all your work. Will post pictures when up and running.

Hi there from New Zealand ,Ive been loading and hunting with my SRS 300win mag for over a year now and have found that my best Hunting load is Hornadys 208g Amax 76.5 g ADI AR2217 ( I think you call it H1000) 10-12 thou of lands , shoots extremely well sub 1/2 moa if you do your part velocity is around 2860 - 2880fps range , Dogtown has seen the rifle in action in New Zealand where this load has performed admirably against 338LMs out to 1700m and beyond .

The other load I can recommend is Hornadays 225g match HPBT 73.5 g ADI AR2225 10 Thou jump to lands velocity is around 2800fps.
I have a load of 230 g Berger OTM s but have not finished trialing these yet.
As always approach these loads with caution , whats good in my musket may not be in yours.

I am dying to hear a thorough review of the HTI .50. I would like to see accuracy results at extended ranges, say like out to 1,000 yards to start and 2,000 if possible. If you ever have the time or inclination to post such a report it would be much appreciated by both myself and many others. Signed Jealous as hell.

Uhh... How about cranking out a few 338 suppressors that were ordered in JANUARY! I completely understand my 100 rounds of 338 ammo from Feb not shipping but damn near a year in a can???!!!

I just went through the same decision. Went with the covert a1. If you're worried about range to take an elk use the .300 win mag. Problem solved. If you shoot suppressed the 16" barrel is handy and can be used to take anything I'd hunt on a regular basis (deer, hogs). The covert allows you to run any barrel length. The srs limits you. Only advantage I see you the srs is the bipod sits out a bit further but this has not been a problem on my covert.

The SRS is invaluable to night hunters that need room for clip on NVDs and Thermal gear. There is a lot of night hog hunting going on nowadays although I haven't heard of many people using DTAs probably due to the weight and cost. I love the pics of the guys running $18k thermals on a stock remington.

This is a good point I forgot to mention. However you can always get around this by buying a standalone nv scope or thermal scope. An 11k dollar clip on night sight is probably out of my budget anyway so this wasn't a huge factor for me. Not to mention if down the road you REALLY wanted a clip on nv I doubt the 400 dollars for the extended srs forearm is going to stop you haha.

If you want the to go with the SRS Covert, but are concerned about not being able to run NVG rail mounted down the road, no worries.

DTA sells a "DTA SRS upgrade kit" for the covert, per DTA's site; it is a replacement forearm that "essentially turns a covert into an SRS". The longer SRS forearm swap gives you the rail length needed to run NVG with a full size scope, as well as moving you bipod mounting position out further for running longer barrels. The kit can only be run in 22" and longer barrels, so you can't run your 18" barrels with it on; but it gives the Covert all the benefits of the SRS.

Yup, having both handguards give you ultimate flexibility, mind you swapping them out is not something you can do in the field. You have to strip the rifle down to the receiver, mount it in a vice and use a tool that comes with the handguard upgrade loosen/tighten. Word of warning: it takes a LOT of elbow grease the first time, but after that it's much easier. I can do a complete swap out in about 10 minutes though honestly, I keep the Covert handguard on most of the time nowadays. In what little spare time I have these days, I'm working on an adapter that'll allow handguards to be swapped as easily as the barrels.

My main concern was accuracy with the shorter .308 barrel and the loss of velocity. I have watched all kinds of videos on the mis-information net and you see guys ringing steel at distance (500-1000 yds). How accurately are they doing that is what you typically do not see.

It's been pretty well established that at least with the .308, accuracy does not suffer with barrel length. In fact it can actually be improved with shorter lengths as the harmonics improve and barrel stiffens. As far as velocity, yes you will see a drop but people are still getting decent velocities out of these short barrels. If you are also getting a .300 conversion I think the 16" .308 would be a great barrel to have to add some handiness and versatility.

I think the 16" .308WIN barrel is one of the more impressive products DTA makes. In fact, I was so pleasantly surprised with how accurate it shot and how far I could take it that I dumped my 26" barrel.

Here's my A1 Covert with a SAC built 28" Bartlein 260 Rem and it balances well even though the bipod is mounted on a short forearm. Here's a shot of the setup; neighbor next bench over wanted to give it a try. I also compared the Covert against a 24" 270 Rem700 and the overall length of the Covert with 28" barrel was 3-4" shorter.

I just received a new A-1 butt pad to replace my original that one of the nylon tabs broke. I noticed one thing right off the bat.. It's definitely lighter for sure and since I only use one spacer it will increase my lop by about 3/8", guess I'll have to get use to that since I can't run without a spacer it seems as my chassis doesn't have the notch cut out at the top. I also noticed that when installed it doesn't fit as tight( lockup) as the original. Is this normal on e retro fit to the normal SRS?
