I will don my jack sparrow costume, load up my Red Jacket'ed hotchkiss rotating cannon armed Jon Boat with cannon ammo and Dillo dust(for making cannabilism more delicious) and patrol the mississippi river. Legends of me will sprawl across the land of the adventures of the "dip of the mississip". I will have a necklace made of 3-1 human to sheep vagina mix to help when there's a shortage of skank hos on the river boat.......

Nothing will happen. There will be no apocalypse as some imagine. No social turnaround where the people who think they are well prepared suddenly turn into kings. No "I told you so."

In the end you will spend money on stuff that will go to waste, or sell it in a mad rush for funds at a loss of almost 50-75% for what you paid for it.

There are plenty of people who thought the world, and all societies would end along time ago(30, 40 years ago), and here it is in the year 2011, and nothing has happened except people making money off of your hysteria.

Go ahead. It's your money.

You know what the movies never show? Family’s. Yeah I bet I could be real stealthy with a pissed off wife, hyper son, and a piss off little girl because we accidently left her blankly behind. Not to mention trying you use each member of the family as mules carrying a ass ton of shit. Great Idea!

Kind of sounds like reason why we leave the wife and children at the house when we go hunting.

Its fun to sometimes joke about it but why does everyone make fun of being prepared for problems and going as far as money would allow including a shelter? Its not really funny or a joking matter to me really and we take it very seriously in the military so why shouldn't a civilian do the same? I am from the Southeast Texas, Southwest Louisiana area and hurricanes are a bitch...No electricity for three months more than once and limited amount of food for the ones that didnt prepare, not enough government support to get everything to everyone in need. Not everyone has money to stay in a motel that long and they book up a week in advance in an 800 mile radius. If you happen to live in an area unlikely to be hit by a natural disaster then good for you but some of us dont have a choice and others don't the funds to leave. I know the word zombie sounds extreme and silly but give the word alittle slack to include maybe thousands of starving ghetto babies mamas and daddys looking for dinner because they chose not to evacuate to a government sponsored shelter on the free out'o da ghetto bus ride. I may have put to much into this reply but Ive seen suburbia go straight to the south side of hell in less than 12 hours...But to be serious in response to post shelter in place in the best shelter there is. Dont grab anything dont go anywhere have it ready right there unless you live in a flood plain...anyways Ill ramble on if I dont just stop now

Hey Arma the world doesnt have to end for shit to hit the fan and I dont think the world will end anytime soon...Everyone knew Harold Camping is a nut accept for a few touched individuals but the amount of shit he was able to stir was enough dumb shit to make stateside military run double duty...everyone I knew was in and at work for this stupid thing but supervision wasn't worried about the world ending either, they just worried about what people them selves might do....fin

The military spends billions on preparedness and yet gets surprised on a regular basis. Most of it wouldn't survive any better than a shopping mall if a real natural disaster happens or did we miss the memo on Homestead AFB?

Most of the military is a bunch of civilians who dress alot alike. Doesn't detract from Duty or Service but Survival Specialists they aint.

I am not so morbid as to wish for a civilization ending event just to see the looks on alot of survival expert's faces. Even the best of 'em can barely survive without a power cord.

But I am sober right now and the night is young.

hey, didnt mean to start an "omg, you little effng newb why you asking this" it was simply carry over from shout box. but, i like how some of you think that it is always good to be prepared. hell, maybe someone new is here, *cough me*, and they may have some new advice or maybe a new piece of gear has came out that not everyone and their bro knows about. please, dont whine about it. just trying to have some fun, and also possibly catch a few new ideas. i like the idea of staying right the eff where i live. i couldnt put it better, i have all my stuff there, reloading stuff, rifles, all tools, ammo etc. also, why in the hell has no one said "i am going to grab the beer!" i am from wi as you can see. so the first thing im doin, is heading light speed toward the liquor store, grabbing all the effn jim beam and jack daniels, that my truck will carry.

i like how the family part was brought up. i have a 4 yr old son and 11 month old daughter and a wife that bitches with the best. that thought has crossed my mind, what do you grab for the kids for a comfort item to keep them dead ass quiet if needed?

Dwood, i voted for walker, would do so again. people dont understand, when there is no money, there is no money. one thing lib tards dont understand. nuff said. (oh, i am a union member, not by choice!)



hmmm whats the best recipe for dillo dust? and like i said, you need a jar with pickle juice for that pussy necklace, soak it at night. nothing like kosher dill pussy.

Air Force SERE and Arctic survival carries some weight I would hope but the girls in the med group or finance dont have a chance which I defiantly am not. Your career field has alot to do with your level of survival training. I live rural and always have and always will and live around people with means and knowledge of how to live with little assistance...really all Im getting at is a couple months worth of provisions...not anything bear grills bs like jumping off a cliff into a river because "I need too", eating bugs, or breaking out the spade to start a garden...Just plain simple smart food stores...If a Mormon mother of 4 can do it so can anyone else...I was raised Mormon but fell away from it long ago but there also take food stores very seriously and you would be surprised if you talk to someone on the topic...I was in and around Katrina, Rita, Ike, and others so now im alittle more seasoned but let me know how silly I am...I know what you mean though you just need to be prepared to make it through the crisis until civilization repairs its infrastructure...Go to a wal-mart when a hurricane is coming and you just might find yourself alittle frightened...Sorry I do ramble

Being prepared for a natural disaster, extended power outtage type situations is one thing; obsessing with stockpiling mass amounts of food,water,ammo,medical supplies, ect in hidden caches in 3-4 states may be a little overkill.

Even if you are preparing for such SHTF plans, advertising what you're stockpiling emergency supplies on the internet probably isn't the best idea....

But hey, if you are stockpiling food, don't worry about saving some ammo. Just give me your address and i'll bring some ammo to share...

SERE carries some wieght but is a course you go through rather than a real world threat you face. A month cut off vs a nasty weekend.

I agree you are rambling because you have given no concrete answer to the basic question. Nice it is to have a month of 'provisions'. Some idea of what hunger, REAL hunger feels like, how to be alert when every nerve is screaming, "I am tired, forget the firearms in the car and just go inside and get some sleep."

But to say your silly? Of course not, silly guys don't wire up missles or their support systems, but surviving a true SHTF and not a local poo-poo flinging match-

I'd love to hear more about what EXACTLY you would have for the month and where you would have it and how you would keep it.

No pissing contest, just not my first rodeo.

You dont need to go to the store to get drunk...add to your list of preparedness items a big pickle jar and and vinyl hose, yeast packets, sugar, strainer, funnel and hopefully maybe you have naturally growing blackberries or something around like that. Put a hole in the lid and put vinyl hose in and seal. add 4 cups mashed up berries and 4 cups sugar then fill a couple of inches from the top with water and add yeast packet and stir then seal. now take a cup of water, place the hose end into the water and the Co2 bubbles start coming in a few hours. stir the drank a couple of times a day because berries will rise to the top and dry out. also dont get it to hot in the sun or anything keep it shady and cool...Its generally done when it takes more than a minute to get a bubble and usually takes about 7 days. You can play with the ratios and yeast is not required it only help kick it off and speed up the process.Everyone's results and tastes are different. Strain and add to a old bottle and you've actually pretty decent tasting homemade wine for not much money at all

An 'official' plan? If you can plan then your world hasn't narrowed sufficiently for the shtf.

I was raised in Southeast Texas and I have never heard of this feeding off the beast? Most of the families I went to church with were wealthy but we did go to what was called the bishops store house located in Houston which was just a warehouse set up like a grocery store and us kids would put together generic grocery lists for Mormons in need which was 100% paid for by the members of the church.

Its hard for me to answer you question easily and to start I prepare for me and 2 additional females. Because of all the hurricanes and the national guardsmen I am completely stocked with about two to three months worth of MREs with everyone getting one a day which that is the minimum and what the MRE is designed to do(Not being to active). Even though the MRE has enough calories to fill this role its hard mentally to get over just eating the one meal and quite honestly I am afraid of that brick im going to shit after eating MREs that long so we have other assorted canned goods and ramen noodle cups and things of this sort. MREs are easy to maintain but regular food isnt so easy because shelf life is much shorter. We can get as technical as you want to calculate calorie usage per person for the span of time you want to be prepared for and really alot of this is simple stuff. I kinda want to mention where you will store the food or how you pantry is build. The good ole Mormons will make group activities out of making shelves that swing out and to gain access from the rear and roll or slide goods to the front like gas station coolers. new in the rear old getting used in the front. I try to make it things we personally eat regularly so we go through it without loosing it. This works really well for canned items but it is alot of work but it sucks to have food scattered about in the pantry because its gets forgotten about and not eating before expiring. Im wearing out...............Water is very important to but it also goes stale and just tastes funny but every time I go to the store I get a couple gallons of drinking water when its on sale but try to cycle using them also. I have a well, catfish pond, and a katadyne...Water from the katadyn actually tastes pretty good and also have a few extra filters for it. I personally wouldnt drink any alcohol though...Impedes judgement and increases rate of dehydration which will increase your water consumption in the end. Another good idea is to keep a rain barrel if you dont have a large source of water...Let the rain keep it full and you never know when you need a quick pitcher of water to flush a toilet. Its nice to have an operating toilet to take a dump in...If you dont know what i mean you take the water and pour right on the shit evac hole with the water and the toilet will flush.

Man Its hard to do it like this I could write a book on what I have alone but it was collected over time and I havent mention firearm storage or backup power generation but where I am things I been involved in already have put me in a better position than most but that doesnt mean tomorrow wont bring a tornado and take it all away...There is more I feel I need but Im only 27...

notquiteright are you anymore satisfied? I could walk around and take notes on things but by no means do I think I do everything the right or the best way...I just really dont know where to start
