...I've ever seen. A guy shooting next to me at the range is a pawn shop owner and he showed me a picture of a derringer someone tried to pawn. Get this, it was a 2 barrel 45-70. I was shooting my 45-70 high wall which is why we started the conversation.

In a derringer (i.e., no grip to speak of), even with a weak ass trap door load pushing a 405 that things going to hit you between the eyes. If you miss the guy you were shooting at can just take his time and take all your stuff while you are unconscious.

Heaven help you if you put something hotter than a trap door load in there. It'll either give you skull fracture or land 20 yards behind you.

My 45LC Derringer was plenty worthless. It's one of the very few guns I have traded off. I can't imagine the brain-power it would take to buy one in 45-70.

We had a guy like that 20+ yrs ago when I was shooting IPSC. He was always showing up at the range with some kind of hand cannon I remember he has an LAR Grizzle and in 1988 or so he had some kind of wildcat 50 cal handgun. Some people just cant get enough recoil.

yep that the same kind of guy my friend is, a complete recoil junky, the harder, the better. to each his own, he is only hurting himself.
