I'm looking for an optic for my 18" 308 AR. I have a Burris xtr1.5-6 an an IOR 3-18 that I'll be getting rid of to fund it.

I won't be doing any 1000yrd shooting with it, probably 0-500yrds

I've been checking out the nightforce 2.5-10 and some of the US optics, but would love to hear some opinions for some other high quality optics. Price range will 1500 or under.

I'm also looking into the new super sniper 1-6 for my AR which might also be an option for the 308 as well.

The IOR is great, it's just a pig for weight. The nightforce comes in a 19oz (IOR is 28oz, granted it has a higher magnification).

Re: Optic opinion for my 308

If it were me I'd keep the IOR, I have a 16" AR-10 w/ a FFP 3X9, and wish I had more magnification most times. Maybe, the NF 3-15 ia lighter than the IOR?

The nightforce 3-15 is 30oz, IOR 3-18 is 28oz (according to their website), so it's essentially a wash.

Re: Optic opinion for my 308

I think 3-18x is the ideal mag range for a .308 bolt gun, but I agree with you and I would want something a little smaller with lower mag range on a .308 semi.

I'm looking at USO SN3 1.8-10x, I am hoping it might be available with daylight illumination one day.
The new 1-6x from bushnell, leupold, super sniper, and others are worth a look

I really like daylight illum with low mag on a semi

I found that a mini red dot offset is faster to transition than changing the zoom on a variable. Little more weight, but it doesn't stick out as far as u might think if you mount a PEQ on the side handguard rail

A cheaper alternative would be a fixed 10x with mil dot and mil turrets. Then offset mini red dot. Just something to think on

Re: Optic opinion for my 308

I agree the 3-18 is a big scope. There is the IOR 2-12 Spartan, it is the only 2-12 I can think of right off the top of my head.

Hmm, I may have to check that out. Anyone looking for an IOR 3-18 or a Burris xtr1.5-6?..........

Re: Optic opinion for my 308

Go with a weaver tactical grand slam 3-10 mil/mil and feel out what it has to offer, everything the nightforce offers... If you find you need more mag, parallax, FFP sell it at next to no loss here and splurge on a vortex, leupold, USO, ior or nightforce for higher quality.

With the weaver you have an excellent scope at minimal cost so you can feel out what you would be getting. Besides, you may end up being more than happy with the weaver at 299 on sale through midway.

Re: Optic opinion for my 308

Just go with the USO your looking at. Or if you can live with a fixed 10 get the st-10 slimline. I have the standard ST-10 and the parralax is so forgiving I can shoot an entire match from 200-1135 yards without moving it off of 400 yards, the glass is just that good, so you could get the ergo or slimline and have problem with targets from 50 yards out to however far you want to go.

I have now been spoiled and will never have anything but a USO on my competition rifles.

Good luck,
Merritt

Just dropped a load of $$ on a USO 1.8-10x44. Hope it is everything and more I hoped for in a scope for my MATEN.......

Re: Optic opinion for my 308 MATEN

I love my Super Sniper 5-20 on my MA-TEN. I would go non illumination. Waste of money. Otherwise the glass is great very clear.
