I just placed an order for VALDADA IOR 5.8-40x56 40mm Tactical FFP, MOA/MOA, Crusader Xtreme X1 illum. Reticle Rings And Sunshade Included
I will try to have a bench review while zeroing at 100 yrds, then when the weather is nice, I will be at 500 yrd range.

Wish me good luck, this is my first IOR and any first scope that I have north of $1,000.

A buddy of mine here in 29Palms has one. He's more of a precision shooter than a tactical one. So far he's very satisfied with his. He does like the high power stuff.

The IOR Crusader scope was just delivered today. The scope cost large sum of money, however, said scope is a monster in size (and spec too). Photos and initial impression will come soon.

Initial feel and inspection of the item is very positive. The only disappointment is that there was no printed manual and all instructions and document came printed out on computer printer.

It is a super luxurious and precision optical device worthy of small desktop publishing job for an instructional booklet and company literature.

Also, there was no battery with the scope, so I could not test the illumination feature out of the box. I would have to run to nearest Walmart to grab one.

I also do recommend to include a microfiber for the glass cleaning and dusting off dirt and spec.

I'd recommend you get yourself a lenspen for cleaning, fast, portable, and easily cleans all the way to the edge of the glass.

I just discovered, that there was battery installed, however, I could not see the illuminated dot unless it is on high magnification and the illumination is at 10 or 11 (max). I thought it is full reticule illumination, it is not it is only the floating center 1/4 MOA dot.

Remember not to tighten your ring screws to more than one inch-lb., lest you bind up your magnification adjustment.

Another observation, I noticed barrel distortion at the edges of the optical picture when using high magnifications (24X+). Is that expected or normal? I mean if I look at window of house like 250 yrds away and the roof will be visibly round and not flat, that is what I know is barrel distortion, am I correct?

Hello! You do not have to contact Bucharest. Get in contact with Val at valdada.com, he is the US distributor in Colorado and he will take care of you. Or you can contact the dealer that you bought it from. I was with Val over the weekend at the Tulsa gun show where I bought the 6-24x56 with 35mm tube from him. That is the second IOR I own, in November I bought the Recon 4-28x50 40mm tube. Great scope and love the retical. I will right a report on the 6-24 when I get it up and running. It might start out on a 260 Rem. then go on a 300 wm when I get it built. I wish you well with your IOR.

The new models with digital illumination only have the center dot illuminated. I also have the 6-24x56. Great scope! Look forward to hearing more. I would contact ior about the distortion your seeing. Val in will take care of you if there is an issue.

My 3.5-18 with digital illumination has full tree illuminated...

Can you comment on scope torque and mag ring binding any more? Am i missing something as i've searched the net for errors on IOR but never found anything related to that and my scope failure "could" be caused by that as mag ring got stuck in certain combination of elevation and power setting?

Your right the 3.5-18 has full illum the rest dont as far as I know. I think the binding problem is on the 3.5-18 models where the turrets arent much more than a rings width away from the power ring. Apparently if you tighten the rear ring "too much" it binds and the mag ring wont turn

It has only center dot illumination.
There is some distortion and I can attribute this to combination of high magnification (18X-24X) and short distance target (50Yrds) and rear diopter adjustment. I guess, now that I have mounted the scope and I can see a full view, it is time for range zeroing and testing. Most likely with real 100 yrd+ target the distortion would be adjusted for barely noticeable. I have to do more testing.

I love the scope and the rifle, the only disappointing issue is that the scope moved forward under recoil. The screws were tightened as much as possible. Still I had to unscrew, reposition the scope and tightened a bit more. The net result is the scope has now scratches marks from the underside of the scope. :grumble
As for recoil, there is almost none more than a 223 or 240. Very soft in my book, thank to the amazing factory muzzle brake.No need for gel pad of any kind.
I was able to get initial zeroing with 1" at 50 yrds in 4 rds only. Sweet scope clicks. If the scope did not move I would not have needed to adjusted again.
Total rds fired 20.
Now time to develop some hand loads :hurry: :hurry: :coolgleamA:

My buddy has that same scope & after looking down thru it at the 1k yd line it made my Razor look like a tasco, well maybe not that cheap but the glass is damn near $1,500 clearer haa! Best glass I have seen so far. I forget what rings my buddy has but they looked like they were another $1,000

Are these the same rings they ship the scope with? because these look way more heavy duty than the ones you have.

I need to reload like 20rds Hornady A-Max 208gr over RL-22. And shoot them again. Let us see if the scope would move. I guess the rings are from factory IOR.

You could try rubbing the mount surfaces of the rings with rosin to help with the grip in the short term.

As for real 40mm rings, SWFA has these ARC rings... very nice, but not cheap.

Thanks for the tip. I believe all rings should have their contact area micro-roughed/sanded at the factory.

Hello! My Recon came with the same rings and my scope moved also. The instructions say to wipe the screws and clean out the holes with alcohol, I didn't. Afterword I did clean everything and put some rosin on them and that seems to work for now. I torqued them at 17-18 inch pounds.

Maybe it was my mistake, maybe I should got the 5-40x56 from March. I guess I can still sell my rig and start all over again if I am not happy. I will do the trick of Alcohol and Rosin if it needs to be. My scope with 4-5 pages of info and no instructions on mounting another negative for such high-end of scope. Am I screwed, nope. I guess IOR Valdada should just do couple improvements on their products and they would be golden. BTW, the Parallax Adjustment works well. I would have also liked more the the full reticule illumination like on the March scope, not just the floating dot. Man up IOR and get a full reticule illumination that works well.

Just I noticed, at the range, I could not see distortion. I believe, that once the scope is mounted and the eye-relief is set at the correct distance, the scope adjustment (Parallax and rear objective diopter) worked very well.

Tracking worked very well too. Day and night compared to those scope (less than $1K) with internal (25-cents coin) adjustment.

Beiruty, now that you have had some time & rounds on this scope what are your thoughts? I'm an old dude and need & appreciate the clear & high magnification. I'd rather invest in this then spend the extra 1-2 k on a spotting scope . . .
