Range Report Out to 1,000 yds on cheap ammo?

Hello all,

As title says, how many of you are getting out to 1000 on factory ammo? Specifically American gunner or anything relatively low priced? Although I'd love to reload, I don't have the space for it, perhaps one day. Anyhow, are any of y'all getting out there with some success?

I'd like to add i have taken AG out to 450 and seemed pretty consistent but of course, 1000 and 450 are two different distances.

Shot it pretty well with American Gunner out of my Tac A1 a couple weeks back. ammo was more consistent than I was.

Very consistent box ammo. perhaps a little pricey at $32/box. But well worth it. I realize you're looking for less expensive but I've yet to try Selier Beliot ammo.
I just took my first class with the Bergers and hit 1000 yds without a concern about the ammo. Any misses I had were all on me.

I’ve had great luck with 6.5CM AG to 1000. The 5-inch chickens at SVRPC are a bit rough but a MOA Gong is a lot more reasonable and an IPSC torso is very repeatable.

I agree I was shooting AG 140 grain HPBT, out of a 22 inch Savage Axis II, ONCE I FIGURED out the wind, I was hitting 12 inch wide 24 inch tall IPSC targets with regularity.

I’m shooting Hornady Black 140s out to 1000. It’s pretty consistent. SDs have been 10-14 with the different boxes that I have checked .

You definitely do not need to handload or build a custom rifle to reach 1000 yards consistently. American gunner is good stuff. When it was 70 cents a round shipped it was a no brainer. Now it seems like it is near $1 as everything gun related went sky high lately.

Tacc, had NRA UK confirm the V bull is .5 MOA, so roughly using my calipers vs my phone screen, it looks like a 1.2 x 2.5 inch group.

Very lucky to have such great ranges out near me, my wife is an excellent shot, we start our days using the .22LR at 300 yards for fun and frustration, then use the .223 Tac A1 at 600 with some factory 69 SMK to adjust to wind at longer range, then use the 6.5 Tac A1 at 1000 - 1200 yards.

I spotted for a friend whose starter rifle was a lightly re-worked Mosin-Nagant in 7.62 x 54R, topped with a 10X Super Sniper. His ammo was surplus tin-can corrosive ball.

He out-shot some random big-mouth and his buddy next to us on the firing line out to around 800 yards against steel E-type targets, both swinging AI rifles with very expensive Euro scopes.

He explained to me his post-shooting cleaning session includes boiling water and Dawn dish soap to keep the bore immaculate and to prevent rust on the bolt and action.

I've been very pleased with the 140 and 131 S&B ammo as well. Excellent performance for the price.

Not trying to bust your balls, but I have to wonder how people who have never done something can be so sure that they know what it takes in terms of space/time/money etc.

Hint: you don't need a lot of space if you are organized and take advantage of the vertical dimension.

I shot smk 140 FGMM at Frank’s class. Seemed to hold less than half moa at all distances we shot, which was up to 1250. $24 a box at mile high.

I've been moving a lot these last few years from one place to another. I do want to reload but would really prefer to settle. Plus, I almost just bit the bullet and bought reloading equipment recently. But with the shortage of powders and primers, I went ahead and bought a TBAC suppressor instead. I will try and consider purchasing reloading equipment hopefully sooner rather than later.

My first centerfire match I used the club loaner rifle in 6.5 CM and they gave me american gunner. I have never shot past 300yds but hit the 1066yd targets no problem and most everything in between so it must do alright

I had multiple connects at a mile with that ammo, you can win matches with the American gunner 6.5 cm. It's obviously not the best, but it's" pretty darn good ammo".

Its good stuff man. I bought another 1500 rounds earlier this year when covid ammo panic started. If anything its a good gasser round where you dont need to worry about brass getting chewed up.

For what it costs now I'm going to reload the American Gunner HPBT in the SnB brass, but dang if I had 1500 more of the SnB at my old cost I'd still plink it. Down to about 800 now.

Yea I may do the same thing. Decided to standardize on the Berger 130 Hybrid for 6.5CM and 6.5G and then add the Flatlines for better performance as needed for the 6.5. But the flatlines will need to be single loaded due to OAL.

The 130 Hybrid is a very stable round at alot of velocitys and will easily load to mag length. Over RL26 is a zinger.

Don't throw out your SnB brass works great buddy has been using mine to shoot Berger and Hornady making bug holes up to 5 or 6x through a batch now cases still gtg.

I'd be surprised if it wasn't already subsonic at 1000 or sooner, which can make consistency challenging compared to faster bullets. It is cheap and has good brass for reloading.

Went down to Triple C two weeks ago and had no problems hitting steel at 1000 with both American Gunner and Match ELD-M. The ELD-M needed a tad less dial but both performed well.

Wait what? Your SB65A states 2000fps? On their web page it states 2658 out of a 21 3/4" barrel. I get 2692 out of a 24" barrel with buddy's chrono. Your batch of SnB that states 2000fps on the box?? Are you sure it's SB65A the FMJ?

I'd had good luck with the 140 AG ammo out to 1000.... A little more vertical than wanted- but for the price it was good. And it only goes in a loaner rifle for people that want to go shooting (and I don't want to spend the time hand loading for them). The last time out it looked like the guy couldn't shoot for shit, 2moa high- 3 moa low- right on target. But then some of them had difficult extraction and pressure signs- it was a new ammo can- and after trying another rifle it was verified it was the ammo. I should of chrono'ed some- but it was late and obvious that about 20% were overpressure. It was all positive experiences with AG before that....

I shot it up months ago, I just got it for the brass for reloading!

I recently shot very accurately at 950 yards with Hornandy 300 PRC 225 GR ELD Match. There are only two factory loads available (as far as i am aware). My ballistic calculator doesn't calculate past that so thats as far as i could push it. I didn't have cell service for my hornandy app to work.
