I am considering building a PRS Rifle and starting to go to some matches. I would like some ideas on how to set the gun up.

Should I go bolt or gas?

I will probably stay in the 6mm or 6.5 caliber range but could go 7mm-08 or 308 if needed

Thanks for any input you can provide

Not the greatest picture, but here's mine.

6mm Creedmoor
Surgeon 591
Bartlein 24" MTU contour
XLR Carbon Chassis
Timney Calvin Elite trigger
APA Little Bastard brake
Harris bipod with talon feet
Topped off with a Vortex Razor AMG 6-24

No one wants to post pics of their rifles. What is this world coming too?

While gun porn is always nice, if you're trying to gauge what the top competitors are using, check out the "what the pros use" articles from Precision Rifle Blog. It breaks down everything from action and stock to optics and muzzle devices

I have looked the the PRB what the pros use. Something tells me that there are other people, just regular guys like me, not pros that like to shoot who might want to share there set up

No doubt, what I've found interesting from PRB is watching the trends over the years. The calibers have continued to get smaller and faster, and S&B no longer reigns supreme on optics chosen. By all means there's the "average joes" like me that will never be in the PRS top 50, but if you read the threads here, most of us are still choosing the same core group of actions, optics, stocks/chassis, etc. and conversely it's rare to see a top PRS competitor who's running some obscure piece of gear.

Well, I made the decision to buy a good used rifle and try it out to see if I like the matches or not. I found a great deal on GunBroker for this 260 Rem built on a Savage Action. It should be in the mail this week. Unfortunately, I am away for work for a few more months and won't get to play with it until Summer

Rob01,

What's the logic behind the switch barrel and it's primary purpose? I'm not being a smart --- just curious.
Thanks

Multiple calibers on one set up. With an action like the Surgeon it's as easy as unscrewing one and screwing on the other. They all use the same mags. I just need to choose what caliber I want to use for the task at hand.

Yet another 591. This one has a heavy palma barrel that desperately needs to be bead blasted. I can't stand it. It also has a super special APA "crooked bastard" specially designed to negate drift due to the coriolis effect.

Thanks for all the great pictures and descriptions. Lot of good info to go on. I am looking forward to this 260 I picked up. I am curious how you all like the AICS chassis vs others. I see you all are running lots of different set ups.

Depending on the match, one of these two. Though I'm using a Mega Maten MML upper and a 22" JP barrel now.

I'm in the same situation but have decided on these components for a budget build just for suits & giggles. Howa 26" barrelled 6.5 Creedmoor , MDT XRS chassis with built in Arca forend upgrade, MDT 20 MOA rail ,Terminator T3 muzzle break , 10 rnd + 5rnd mags,.I'm based in New Zealand and we don't have access to the same variety as you folks in USA .
