Suppressors Please help me choose a .338 can

Note: *Im not interested in a SF can. Reason being they've publicly stated that they don't chase db's, coupled with what I've heard from others that have owned/used them, they aren't as quiet as the others I've listed and require additional hearing aides.*

Do any of you have experience with the following regarding POI shift, and durability?

SAS .338 Vengeance
AAC Titan-ti .338
AWC Thundertrap Enhanced 338
TBAC 338BA
EliteIron Sierra Sd 338

I have a 338P-1 and I love it. Very quiet, well made and very accurate. I never shoot unsuppressed so I can't comment on POI shift. My 30P-1 had very little shift though.

I wouldn't shoot without ear pro though.

Hmm, I'm starting to see a trend. Are any 338 suppressors hearing safe or, would I be able to get away with just ear plugs?

Only cans that are technically hearing safe are 22lr. Even pistol subsonic technically is above safe levels. You should still wear ear pkugs regardless ofthe can. I wear surefire ear plugs with ear muffs over them at the range even though I shoot mostly suppressed the other guys arent.

I don't shoot any of my guns without ear pro. I also don't shoot bolt guns without eye pro.

I only use plugs when shooting the 338 with the can. It's very similar IMHO to shooting a .308 with a can.

You might consider trying to hear some in person to make sure it meets your expectation. It's a ton of time and money.

I shoot my MRAD with the TBAC 338BA without ear pro. Might not be the best for me but in a wide open space it is just fine. On a side note I shoot my 45 ACP suppressed with ear pro, if that tells you anything.

I get confused (or maybe just my personal lack of understanding) when people ask about POI shift. Once you put the can on there, you will NOT want to shoot without it. Zero the rifle once you install the can, and don't shoot without it. The only way you would see a POI shift (in my opinion and limited experience) if you zero with the can, then take the can off and shoot with it. Seems to defeat the purpose.

Could you define durability? Are you planning on taking the can off and throwing it in the dirt? The can is designed to handle pressure so that is covered and according to manufacturers a can should last a lifetime. You buy a mirage cover and that will take care of most small exterior abrasions. What service do you anticipate the can coming across?

Another aspect to consider is customer service. TBAC is outstanding. Not only do they pick up the phone when you call, you can message Zak, Shane or Ray on SH and they will get back to you asap.

In the end it is your choice but do you want to endure the NFA process to get a sub-par product and a company that forgets you once they cash the check?

I'm in the minority but I'm going with a YHM Phantom and put the $$ savings into bullets and powder.

My Titan Ti is quiet and repeatable. I have shot it without plugs or muffs, but i still feel more comfortable with a set of plugs in.
