Purchasing an LMT MWS .308 16" SS

Re: Purchasing an LMT MWS .308 16" SS

$3300 is more than the price I was quoted for 16"ss barreled MWS. I guess its fair the FFL makes some money but I think you can do better. If you live somewhere that allows you options you should be able to realize a good savings.

Re: Purchasing an LMT MWS .308 16" SS

I paid $2600 for one in November 2011....

from I can see the range is now in the 2600-2800 range, these things are really getting popular and starting to command the price.

Re: Purchasing an LMT MWS .308 16" SS

Make sure of what is being advertised.

The Chrome Lined 1/10 Twist (CL) barreled MWS is around $2500 ($2860 Retail).
The Stainless 1/11.25 (SS) barreled MWS is around $3000 ($3695 Retail).

The rifles are exactly the same in every way except the barrel. They look exactly the same, except for the barrel markings and the box.

LMT just dropped the retail price of the SS barrels from $700 to $614, the CL barrels are $466.

So difference in price between a CL and SS barrel is only $150, so why is the retail price difference between the rifles $800?

Re: Purchasing an LMT MWS .308 16" SS

Is the faster twist rate the only benefit to the SS barrel? Maybe a little bit more corrsosion protection? I'm trying to work out an order and from everything I have read about the CL it seems to do it all out to 600 yards plus.

I'm leaning toward a 16" CL for the present to save some money than go SS in a longer barrel in the future if I want more. Is this sound thinking or a mistake?

Re: Purchasing an LMT MWS .308 16" SS

The CL has a faster twist rate of 1:10

Short barrel> suppressor> subsonic> heavier bullets>

The SS has 11.25, the golden ratio for the 175 SMK; king of the .30 cals

Chrome is also top of the pops on corrosion protection, and wear protection.

The SS is a MATCH barrel. Incremental more performance but the CL is no slouch.

Re: Purchasing an LMT MWS .308 16" SS

If you can find a MWS 16"CL for a good price (2400-2500), you can order any of the SS barrels directly from LMT for about the same money you would pay for a MWS with a SS barrel.

Then you can have a rifle with a very accurate blasting barrel, and an even more accurate precision barrel.

Awesome. I had that all balled up. Thank you for the education.

Yes, sounds like a good deal, I got the mil discount and paid more than that. ($3350 after CA tax + I think there is a $75 charge for the CA legal version).

Re: Purchasing an LMT MWS .308 16" SS

Get the CL 16 and buy the extra SS barrel. You will be around the same price give or take a hundred but have 2 barrels. Thats the way to go. I never understood why anyone would buy the SS version when you could get the gun and 2 barrels for the same price.

Re: Purchasing an LMT MWS .308 16" SS

I just put a hold on a Gen2 with CL 16" barrel until I can get my ducks in a row for the dealer to recieve it. $2420.00 shipped. Add say $700 for a stainless (18-20") barrel...that comes to $3120.00 and I have 2 barrels for less than $3300. Just look around and use your sense.

The price decrease on the barrels makes me very happy

. I got such a great deal on my MWSE that I'll end up out of pocket under 3k for the 16" CL and SS barrel
