PVA Comp-40 Tripod

I'm starting to get impatient. I've had one on order now for nearly 2 1/2 months. Back when I ordered their website said next shipment expected May 1, 2019. Still says the same thing. No updates to my order status when I login.

Has anyone heard from them or gotten their (recently ordered) tripod? I reached out by phone and email and received no response. My $250 deposit seems to be in limbo.

Ya it’s a lengthy process. My barrel took 5-6 months when their website stated 2-3. Not sure I’ll be making any purchases with them when their estimated times are completely made up apparently.

I get it that they have a backlog on barrels and gunsmithing work and aren't very good about estimating wait times.

But this a product from a supplier, not something that PVA must add their labor to. PVA should at least be able to get a reasonable estimate of delivery from that supplier.

I’ve been waiting for mine probably the same length of time, maybe a little longer. When I ordered it I was not in a big hurry because both of my comp rifles where at the smith.

I did call for an update because I had not heard anything, they said that there had a issue with the carbon fiber supplier the first time, a month later I called again because my rifles where done and I had nothing to mount my new labradar on (see my thread titled “If your on the fence about a labradar” to see the desperate measures I’ve taken to use it. The second time I called they said the anodizing was messed up and they had to send them back, they were expecting mid-late July to ship.

So I don’t know, I’ve been debating the last month to just buy another tripod on top of this one or just cancel this one and order another one. I have times when I could possibly use two tripods but then I think well if I was going to buy two at this price point I could just buy one RRS. I don’t know, I’m getting tired of waiting, should have known better than to ordered something that was not in stock.

I emailed them 2 days ago, but still haven't received a reply.

In mid May I contacted them, and was told the same as briscoetab already mentioned about something with customs.

Almost went with the rt80c because if I get a second tripod it will be for the labradar and range finder specifically and the PVA will be for shooting off of. Only problem is the RT90c only goes to 14” min height and the 80c to 11” the PVA goes down to 7”. Doesn’t seem like much but I do load development with labradar on rocky ground in the prone, so I need a tripod that will get as low as possible and a few inches means my bipod has to be pretty high which cause it to be less stable. Not a big deal but figure if I’m going to get something want it to work.

Almost bought a cheap $100 tripod that basically gets all the way to the ground but max height on it was only like 4.5 feet, so pretty much useless other than for the labradar or using from a sitting or squatting position. Plus it was really cheap and flexible, would have been fine for labradar because of how low it gets there would have been now way it would fall over.

Hmm, well that looks like it could work then, on the amazon pictures it show it only going to 14” but that is definitely lower. Not wanting just for labradar but for rangefinders and possibly spotting scope. I can use the PVA for those as well but I figure if I have two then I don’t have always swap rifle off if I am using it for the rifle.

Appreciate the responses, especially from those who have been able to make contact with PVA. If only they would update their website or respond to an inquiry they would create a lot of good will with potential customers. Unfortunately they seem to be moving in the other direction.

I have the RT90C from Amazon that I use for my Labradar, spotter, etc. Not light weight but built like a tank, probably not great for shooting from. It gets very low, I will try to get you a measurement tonight.

Nor will you. I was fortunate when I emailed and got a couple of quick responses but that's the exception, not the rule.

I like my Comp 40. It's sturdy, relatively lightweight, and provides me with a stable shooting platform. With that said, I saw what appear to be minor cosmetic differences between the PVA Comp 40, the Two Vets 40 Mike Mike, and the RT90C, like the leg locks might be different. I can't say it's any more stable than the Feisol I was using before the Comp 40.

I realize it's too late for some people who have already ordered and might have to pay a restocking fee for something that wad supposed to ship months ago, was never shipped, and was never received. I learned my lesson a long time ago with PVA that I won't purchase anything firearms related (action, barrels, etc.) and will only buy accessories IF they're actually in stock.

Odered a RT 90C, and will be trying a RRS TA-4 (100mm) leveling base. If that doesn't lock up, I'll justnuse the Anvil 34 (head only) mode.

I started this thread back in June and tried to be patient. Now it is coming up on 4 months overdue for PVA's delivery date.

Has anyone received their tripod? Or even gotten an update. I've tried to make contact a couple of times but never heard back from PVA.

I'm not exactly a satisfied customer at this point.

I’ve contacted them twice, the last time was like 3 months ago probably and they said expected delivery was end of July (see previous post above somewhere). Obviously that didn’t happen. I’m just trying to forget about it now and haven’t even attempted to contact them again because I do not appreciate being lied to.

I understand the dates are just “expected” but when they keep missing the date then telling you a different date that they miss, to me that is lying because they honestly don’t have a clue and that is what the truth is.

Don’t feed my lies about the the carbon fiber is messed up and then the anodizing is wrong, just simply tell me you don’t have a good date and for that reason are not giving one out.

Don’t have any expectations when it will be here, I should have gone different route.

Yup, that's the route I ended up going with. The only negative is not being able to use a TA-3 without using the RT-90 bowl.

I plan on buying a TA-4 once RRS gets them back in stock again.

Yes, those of us who have the Comp40 are very happy with them. The same can be said of 40 Mike Mike and RT90C owners, since I see absolutely no difference between the three. Do you know who isn't happy? People like the OP who ordered months ago and are in a perpetual state of waiting for a product with no communication, since that is what this thread is about.

The OP already knows the Comp 40 is a fine tripod. There have been countless threads on tripods. Threads on "Leveling base or ball head for my tripod". Threads on "Which tripod should I buy". Threads on "Best tripod for PRS". Threads on "Best tripod for my spotter/binos/LRF". All would've welcomed your reply. I'm assuming the OP did his due diligence, researched tripods, and came to the same conclusion as you or I did when he decided to place his order several months ago. Now the OP's issue isn't what a fine tripod the Comp 40 is (or 40 Mike Mike or RT90C, for that matter), but instead how poor PVA's customer service and communications are, which coincidentally, have also been the topic of many threads and discussions on here.

The wait time for PVA's products are certainly concerning. I pre-ordered a barreled action around the same time and am still waiting. I haven't seen any bad reviews of the products they put out so I am still waiting and hoping for the best. I have not tried to contact them as from what I have observed on the Hancock thread it does not help them get anything out faster. I was just trying to give the O.P. some encouragement that when he does finally get the tripod it will be a solid product.

There hopefully that will free this thread to return back into what it was before.................

Now I can patrol other threads in search of more useless posts I can add to random threads to earn my comeuppance.

So the OP (me) got off his butt and contacted the cc company and filed a dispute. The cc company (Chase) was very helpful and took my statement and immediately issued me a temporary credit for the full amount of the deposit I put down on the PVA tripod. They gave PVA time to rebut my claim and of course PVA did not since PVA doesn't have a leg to stand on (bad tripod pun intended).

PVA still hasn't come through with the delivery of the Comp 40 tripod and I'm certain their supplier has had plenty of time to make and ship these to PVA, so makes me wonder if PVA is ever going to deliver to their customers that put down a deposit.

I would encourage anyone who was in my situation with PVA and has money tied up with a deposit to contact their credit card company and immediately request a dispute be filed. I'm done with PVA now and will not engage in a business transaction with them ever again. That's just not the way to treat customers who put up their hard earned money.

The interest part actually doesn’t worry me; I’m beginning to think I will get neither a tripod nor my principle back however.

I agree. I follow that rule 99.9% of the time. In fact, it’s why I’ve got an open thread in the semi auto forum because I’m not giving someone $4000 for 4 months. The PVA tripod fell into that 0.01% category because of the relative inexpensive quality tripod it was. I ended up just buying a RRS and yet again proved to myself that buy once cry once is the way to go.

Unfortunately, I can’t do a CC chargeback as the limit has passed.
