I looked at a Remington XCR Tactical Compact rifle yesterday, the price was $1275, not sure if that is a good deal...

Getting back home I looked up the details on the rifle and I saw is has a B&C stock, where as the LTR has, from what I think, a HS Precision....is this correct?.

If this is the case, why is the XCR more expensive than the LTR, I thought the HSP was a better base stock than the B&C?

Thanks,

Re: Question On Remington XCR Tactical Compact

The XCR Compact is more expensive because it has a stainless steel barrel and action coated in TryNite Finish.

The finish is significantly more durable than that found on the LTR. Combined with stainless steel, the rifle is, for all practical purposes, weather proof.

The LTR is good ol'parkerized chromoly steel. It would need quite a bit of care if out in the rain and snow.

The stock (BC vs. HSP) is a toss up. Comes down to aesthetics. Some will state one company being better than the other (I prefer HSP), but really, in the end, both stocks use the same technology and quality is very similar.

I would get the XCR Compact.

Then a Timney.

Then a McMillan.

...and a Nightforce.

Re: Question On Remington XCR Tactical Compact

LTR $1000 HS Precision stock, 40x trigger, Parkerized finish.

XCR $1150 B&C stock, 40x trigger, PVD coating on Stainless action/barrel.

The stocks are similar in construction, in my opinion the B&C is a little nicer, the PVD coated stainless is nicer also, for the $150 price difference, I would go with the XCR, your price is a little high.

Re: Question On Remington XCR Tactical Compact

Thanks for the replies....

I have a LTR, just purchased my second one a few weeks ago and after handing the XCR it does feel better in the grip area than the LTR...

Lonely Wolf: If I do get one it will follow a similar path as you described: Timney, possibly a Manners and then a USO, I am a USO fan, NF is great though....

Re: Question On Remington XCR Tactical Compact

My XCR Compact Tactical came in a HS precision stock...I think they all do. The Long-Range Tactical is the same setup with a 24" barrel comes in a B&C stock. So that may be where the confusion is coming from. The rifle is a nice shooter, you won't be disappointed.

Re: Question On Remington XCR Tactical Compact

My XCR Compact Tact also has an HS Precision stock. Pretty sure Megahoser is right.

I could be wrong, but thought the LTR came with an X-Mark Pro trigger, not the 40x. The 40x is not bad at all and much better than the X-Mark Pro.

Re: Question On Remington XCR Tactical Compact

Sorry guy's but I got bud in! The LTR does NOT come with the 40X trigger, it has the XMark Pro. The XCR comes with the 40X, and my XCR also came with the HS precision stock. I have alway's been a Rem fan and have owned several, I feel that the XCR has got to be one of the nicest finished rifles Rem has ever made. And guess what they can shoot too. I/4-1/2 MOA at 100 are quite common with good ammo. Mine is a 223 with a SWFA SS10X42M great combo....

Re: Question On Remington XCR Tactical Compact

peterh is correct XCR compact has HS stock and very accurate. A step over the LTR. My next purchase will be one of those stocks, makes for a good hunting rifle.
