-dudes buying things claiming they are for the wife when they just want it for themselves “buying wife a rifle that’s really for me, help me convince myself I should do this”

-dudes who have to hide shit “if you keep some paint out when you bring a new rifle home she will think it’s your old rifle painted a new color”

I’m sure I could go on and on and it’s not just Rifles. It’s everything from sporting equipment, motorsports, computers blah blah blah.

Here’s why it bothers me.

These dudes are the same ones claiming to be III% guys, alphas, I run towards gunfire and all that other shit.....you know if the wife gives them the green light.

My grandfather bought what he wanted like guns and motorcycles. But and it’s a big but, that new motorcycle doubled in price because grandma got a new kitchen or new sofas. Seemed to work out well for over 50 years.

I don’t really hide purchases but I don’t run around telling her I just got a killer deal on a $8k thermal for $6k either. She has her play money and I have mine. I don’t question the truckload of antiques shoved into her Explorer and she doesn’t open my numerous UPS boxes and look at the receipts. IMO, the divorce attorneys and laws have created this atmosphere. Back in our grandfather’s day, you could probably come home with a new purchase and if the stay at home wife gave you lip about it, you’d tell her to get out of the house. Nowadays, especially in a state like Illinois, the stay at home wife with 3 kids could be banging the gardener and still stay in the house with you paying for everything plus a little extra. I have many friends who literally can't do anything/buy anything without running it past their wives first. And 90% of the time it's "no". it's embarrassing and they've become incredibly boring people who i don't really hang out with anymore.

the other day i was in my friends living room with him and his wife and literally in the same 15 minutes he got "denied" buying a cheap $150 rod/reel combo because his broke and then immediately his wife orders a pair of expensive earrings on the internet for a wedding this past weekend. i was floored.

what is it with these guys? why did you let yourself get into a situation like that where she controls everything you do? how is that fun? how is that a relationship? i guess i get it - everyone is different and people see things different. whatever then - better them than me.

i stress myself out because i try to plan and do all these unique activities and invite everyone and the damn excuses i get drive me crazy. and 98% of the time it's because of the wife stopping it.

I've asked these people before .... "when is the last activity you did that you WANTED to be doing. that you had a wholesome, fun, memory making experience?" usually they don't have an answer. Then they ask me the same question and i rattle off like every weekend of the entire year - all the stuff ive done. matches, camping trips, hiking trips, going to the lake, fishing, traveling, etc. they do 1 fun thing a year. it's a miserable existence - and usually it's their wife causing it for whatever damn reason i can't figure it out.

we are in are late 20's early 30's. we are still young, what a terrible trajectory to be on.

also - 3 of the people/couples i've mentioned - at least 1 person in each relationship is having to see a "specialist" for "depression/not finding value in life" One is even self-harming.


i've lost 2 parents to suicide - i take that shit seriously its not a joke. but come on folks - you are consciously making you and your significant other's lives miserable and can't figure why?

It has it's own unique set of problems, but I usually don't say shit, because everyone who knows us isn't going to cry in their Wheaties over my problems. That said, I never tell her what she can spend money on, and she never tries to tell me either. Yet, she's very frugal, and I'm not.

Yea, I'm definitely an Alpha, but so is she. It's a compromise and a negotiation. I pick my battles, and generally I try to accommodate what she wants, but she knows when I'm certain about something and I give orders rather than suggestions. She doesn't question that either, but it would never be over finances, which is pretty much moot.

Traditional is great, but a lot of us are not living in a traditional household, and our relationships with our wives aren't traditional either. It is what it is. Throwing rocks and generalizing is foolish. The heart wants what the heart wants.

Well to be perfectly honest it really depends on who is the bread winner. However as joined your money is hers, and hers is yours evenly(YES YES i know in reality that isnt the case) however as expenses and what not are shared to make sure there are no financial shocks, best to grease wifey’s rails. Or risk a lot of bitching, moodiness, etc. My parents always did it evenly. They asked each other when they wanted something.
This is also why I really dont have any inclination to get married(yet). I have no intention of asking for permission to buy a rifle, parts, tools or anything else. If I want or need something I buy it(if funds allow).

This thread makes me F'n laugh. I've been married for 30 years and I have always conferred with the wife on major purchases, BECAUSE...we both brought money into the home. We don't have any secrets. She pays the bills with OUR combined incomes (sometimes I made more, sometimes she made more), we make equal amounts now that we are retired. I am the "impulse" buyer of the family, she doesn't want to spend shit, unless I force her to get herself the things she says she would like, case in point, "Honey I want this kind of cookware, but I'll wait until it goes on sale", which I appreciate, then I say"if you want it, get it, because it could be a while before it goes on sale". When I had to give up two-wheeled motorsports, which the wife enjoyed also, she wanted a Mini C convertible ( a car she's busted my balls over for about 5 years and besides, I dislike convertibles), I took her to the dealer, she picked out the one she wanted and I signed the papers. If you can't trust your significant other, you shouldn't be married, because it's going to bite you in the ass and WILL NOT end well. Shit, i asked my old lady’s opinion on a few thousand dollar purchase(so not major). She had some sort of attitude, prob pissed for some other reason. So i bought it anyways. Shortly after she was all “oh, this is awesome, glad “we” bought it. “ i shot her a glance.

In any relationship I’ve had with women, I’ve never asked permission or even forgiveness. If i fuck up, i own it, but thats rare.
