i have what appears to be a usmc m40 sniper scope in a anodized green... im looking for any info i can find on it.. 3x9 sn f57955 also a number engrave on the side 221585 ....

According to your 'poor' pics SN is engraved in the correct place on the scope and the SN you listed(can't read it on the scope tube) is in the correct range of the serial numbered rifles sold to the Corp. HTH

tac243, the f series serial number is usually an indicator,(early accurange 66-67) the serial number engraved is listed in Chandlers book, I would say yes, congratualtions on your find. Could we see some better pictures please.

tac243, should have looked at your address as well, looks good all around, especially the variances in the color hue. Got any history on the scope, you do know they are worth several thousand dollars?

should have looked at my address..??? i figured it was worth a little.. i actually had it on my hunting rifle for 3 years before i came across a web site.... that made me take it off... i just dont no how to tell if its authenic... if its not ill slap it back on my 308

Nice scope, did you pick it up with a rifle purchase?

Guess one is more likely to run into one near a Marine Corps base than anywhere. The anodize fading/wear looks consistent with most of the pics I have ever seen.

Nice scope you have there. I have a redfield with the same tombstone reticle but in gloss black sitting in a closet.

tac243, 29 Palms (USMC base) USMC M40 scope. Honestly, I have to say the scope is authentic, thus its worth several thousand dollars, I wouldn't put it back on a hunting rifle. As for verifying it, I think here on the Hide is as about as close as your going to get. As I mentioned before it has all the nuances of an original, the F series serial number, (very rare) and hard to come by on any Redfield accurange, it has the variances on the color hue, the geen anodizing faded differently, a nice rounded tombstone, the electro-penciled serial number on the tube, which is the number of an original USMC M40. I don't think its getting much better than that, the ony thing that would improve its authenticity, is a little providence, The scope looks great and theres still a good market for them.
