Rem700: Which bolt know and why?

I will start by saying I hate the factory bolt knob on the 700. I am going to thread the bolt handle on my 700 threaded for a new knob, but I am not sure which knob to get. I see PT&G has some nice offerings at pretty cheap prices which does appeal to my inner cheapskate, but they are on the small side compared to others out there. And there are a myriad of others. I thought about turning one on my lathe, but I think I just want to buy a factory unit as I just don't have the time to mess with it. I am really just curious to see what other people that have done this mod have gone with and why. I am a little on the new side to the world of long range shooting so any insight would be much appreciated.

thanks for the heads up so far. But really I am curious as to why one would want a bigger knob vs smaller, knurled vs Smooth etc. I am leaning toward a smooth knob with a tear drop type shape, but I am not 100% sure exactly what I want. I will be threading it 5/16-24 or what ever the predominant pitch for these is. So I suppose I could play musical bolt knobs. But I would like to avoid that if possible.

Just depends if u want it big and out there easy to get or whether you want it small and out of the way. The longer it is itll probably get closer to where your hand already is and speed up your bolt manipulation. I have a pcr marksman bolt knob on an angled rem700 that I think works perfect, its a smooth cone. Then I have a small knurled anderson knob on a ptg straight handle bolt. Also I think setup perfect for that bolt because the handle is already long.

This is largely a question of personal preference. Personally I have never found much need for modifing my rifles in this fashion.

My favorite is this timeless classic by Badger Ordinance.

do you have a stock Rem700? That button thing on the end of the bolt handle is utter garbage IMO. I am sure its ok for hunting, but if you try to cycle the bolt quickly it sucks. Savage and a few others have some pretty good knobs from the factory but the Rem is just plain garbage.

I like PCR's various bolt knobs. I have had them do at least 20 or better ( haven't I Keith )?!

Just got another back today. For the variety, costs, and customer service, you can't beat PCR.
