I'm new to this forum but I have read a lot here and learned a lot. But I have a Remington model 700 sps varmint in 243. I can't get it to shoot better then a 2 inch group. I have changed the stock to a Hs precision stock. I've only shot factory loads in it, it's got roughly 250rds and still hasn't got any better. Anyone know a way to possible make it shoot better, going to take it to a gun smith soon and have a camera run down the bore

^^^ What ammo ^^^
And what scope, mount and rings are on the rifle, while we are at it.

There is not a lot of choice when it comes to factory loaded match .243 ammunition.

It has a vortex scope 6x18x44 with weaver scope mounts and a weaver 20 moa rail. I have shot federal 80gr 90grs and 100. I've shot hornady 95gr and 100grs I've shot Remington core locks 100grs I've shot nosler 90gr I've shot hsm 95grs with the Berger bullets. But when I shot the nosler and hsm bullets I could get 2 bullets to touch and the 3rd shot is an inch and a half away from the first two. Another thing I've noticed is that not all primer strikes are center some are offset of center

Accuracy issues are best handled by removing variables.

Here is how I would handle it.

Take the rifle apart and put it back together ensuring the action screws are secured to proper torque. Remove the scope and re-install and again properly torque to spec.

Go to the range with a few boxes of different ammo, if you can grab a box of Hornady American Whitetail.

Ditch the bipod for now if you have one and forget the hand under buttstock, shoot off of sandbags or a pack, seated with support hand holding the forestock.

start with your normal ammo and see how it shoots, try 2 min in between shots. Next try the American Whitetail. I suggest this ammo because it has a flat based bullet out of match grade case. It usually prints moa on any rifle I have had especially finicky ones. Now all rifles are different but its worth a try.

reply with results.

I have the same rifle in .243. Mine is in an XLR Element chassis with a Timney Calvin Elite trigger. I have two other long range rifles. I've been shooting long range precision for about 4 years. I handload in 3 different rifle calibers including the .243. My best accuracy in the SPS .243 was achieved with 90 gr. Berger HPBT Match bullets, Lapua brass, and 44 grains of H4350. It is still no better than 1 MOA. The 1 in 9.125" twist will not stabilize anything much heavier. Overall, I am convinced that the barrel is just not capable of great accuracy. When I hit a 1,000 round count with the factory barrel, I will re-barrel in a Hawk Hill or Bartlein in a 6 mm or 6.5 mm of one flavor or another. Then, I expect it to be sub-1/2 MOA.
