Gunsmithing Remmy 700 Blueprint/Rebarrel

Hi

Just about to have my .243 Remmy blueprinted and rebarreled in .308.
I wish to use the rifle for 3 tasks
1. Deer hunting (longest shot unlikely to exceed 300 yds)using 150 grain bullets (heavier not a problem, I just have supply of 150 gr Soft Points)
2. Range work (fun competiton at club level) out to 600yd using 168gr -190gr. Would try 1000yds but if it didn't make wouldn't be a problem.
3. Subsonic with suppressor - using 180-200gr cast bullets at 100-200 yds

My thoughts after reading a number of posts on this and other forums are as follows
22" varmint profile barrel
1:10 twist

I also have a large supply of 125gr Speer TNT - I am guessing that they might be a litte too short for the 1:10n twist

Am I on the right track?

The 1-10 will be great for 180-200 bullets -- maybe a bit fast for 110s/125s depending on how hot you push them.

22 is a good general length to 600, no sweat, but 24 may be slightly better to ensure you burn all powder if you want to go all the way to 1,000.

A Remington Varmint or Palma lightweight or midweight will give you a robust but relatively trim varmint profile to keep vibration down. It will be heavier for a long hunt carry in the woods but if you're going to fit a suppressor mount to the muzzle it won't flex wildly.

Using close to max loads of REL 15 / N140/ Accurate 2230 will I not have burnt all the power in a 22inch barrel?

sure you will have burnt all the powder. that whole "velocity loss with less than 24" barrel" thing is mostly myth. in my experience, it applies to very "slow for cartridge" powder burn rates only. for example, if you were using RL-22 or RL-25 in your 308. even then you will likely still burn all the powder in 22", you'll just loose some of the gas expansion space that you would have with say a 30" barrel (and thus, relatively minor amounts of velocity). with RL-15 in a 308, i have witnessed absolutely no velocity loss in my barrels from 26"-20", using pills ranging from 155gr to 220gr, with 1/10 twist, and near to or over max loads.

ive run everything under 24 inches in a 308 all the way down to 18 and never had a problem making it to 1K. You will get a full powder burn with an 18"

Thanks for the responses.

You have me thinking I might even go with a 20" barrel. The suppressor is going to be a PES T12 which sleaves back over the barrel by 9" with 4.5" forward of the muzzle - so 20" would give me an overall barrel length with suppressor fitted of 24.5" ...hmm decisions decisions

Thought about it but have a 6x47 Lapua (ludicrously accurate) which makes the .243 somewhat redundant for me.

21" Border Barrel PSS profile 1:10 5R rifling
PES T12 Suppressor (extends 4.25" from muzzle)
Blueprinted Action
Pacific Tool Bottom Metal

Surprising well balanced given the moderator is a heavy one...let's hope it shoots
