RFI EDM arms .408 Brake

Gents,
after putting a few hundred rounds through my XM series stick i have come to the conclusion that i dont really like having pounds of terra firma thrown back in my face at mach 6...which leads me to this question...

What aftermarket Brakes do you guys reccommend...is there even such an animal available?

I shoot a rather stiff .50 so am used to recoil but just want to find something that doesnt fling as much crap back at me with recoil suppression being second. Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers,
03

Re: RFI EDM arms .408 Brake

Hey Buck, I got around those problems by just throwing a second mat laterally in front under the muzzle. Sure, without it you're getting dirt and twigs in your shit, but with it layed down I felt like I was shooting on concrete again. FWIW, that's what I relegated my cheap chinese Eagle knock-off mat for

Re: RFI EDM arms .408 Brake

is this the old multi hole brake or the shark gill brake? if you have the shark gill than about all you can do is throw a silencer on it. That will take care of all your problems.

Make yourself one of these.

Dogtown roger for static use on a range that works..but actually humping it around in the bush to shoot Elk in the face..or repel Marauding Canadians...not so much;)

The Mechanic,
while getting a can would be nice...how long is a can going to last before it shits the bed on a .408? I shoot a LOT, dont want to be replacing cans every 300 rounds know what im saying?

Re: RFI EDM arms .408 Brake

The only brake I've used that largely solves this problem were OpsInc single baffle prototype brakes.

I have two threaded for 1" 14 TPI the standard .50 threads http://opsinc.us/photo.php@photoId=brake.50.01.jpg.html.

They were going to make an R3E2C http://opsinc.us/brake.php.html double baffle .408 Cal. 7/8"-24 tpi 1.5" O.D. but there was very little interest and alot of small caliber contract work at the time.

If your interested you can contact them and see if they mind you having someone you know make one for you, i doubt they would be interested at the moment.

Here is the single mounted on a .50 and .408 with 1" 14 TPI threads.

You can PM Triggerfifty here and see if he has better overhead photo's of the blast pattern on the ground around the brake, then the below. I can't find them ATM.

Re: RFI EDM arms .408 Brake

Jimmy Roger appreciate the word. While a can is on the short list i need a brake for times when a can isnt prudent/legal. If im stuck with the factory brake i will make do but was hoping with all the experience in this forum that someone might have run across another option.

Appreciate the word fellas, this is the first time in 9 years im gonna have more than 2 months to do some serious shooting/hunting and am trying to get about 400 weapons related loose ends tied up while im home.

Re: RFI EDM arms .408 Brake

03,
I have a Lawton brake on my .375CT and like it with respect to the blast. I believe that it is not the same as the EDM. But then again, I don't shoot in sandy environments...
Enjoy your time, you deserve it.

Re: RFI EDM arms .408 Brake

talk to nathan from straight shot gunsmithing his brakes angle the side ports slightly up to eliminate dust from the ground i'm sure he could custom make one for your .408 was thinking about having him make one for my .50 so if you get one let me know how it works

Re: RFI EDM arms .408 Brake

Im making a can for my 50 cal windrunner. I am really sick of the dust that covers my expensive optics and gets everything filthy. I think a can is the only thing that will really give you what you want in concussion reduction.
