Ruger Precision Rifle Discussion

Just got my 2025 Gen 4 Ruger precision rifle. Just finished mounting my Vortex Razor HD Gen ii 4.5-27x56 I had to go forward on the pic rail to mount the scope to get the eye relief I wanted as it's a big scope. I'm still waiting on a few small upgrades. They are

1. Anarchy Outdoors polished titanium boot shroud with flutes
2. Catalyst Arms - Hammerhead Bolt Knob
3. Tuxedo Precision Rifle Grip
4. Caparison Cheek Piece Pads

Should be here next week and then I'm off to the range to get this bad boy bore sighted and zeroed. let me know what you think.

Cheers.

AM,

Looks great! I’m debating a 300PRC RPR also. Appears to me, you could move the rear ring back a few pic slots. Try to get as wide a stance between the scope rings as possible once scope position is determined.

This is a real step forward compared to previous generations. And for a rifle to start out with, the previous generations were not bad at all.

Do you know if the bolt lift is any smoother than the previous generations?

Thanks.

I wasn't sure if the jerky cocking, due to the cocking piece, was what is improved or just the sliding of the bolt.
I purchased an Anarchy Outdoors Fluted titanium bolt shroud for the RPR

Fluted Bolt Shroud Replacement for the Ruger Precision Rifle

and it makes a WORLD of difference. Along with the DLC coated bolt the titanium bolt shroud really smooths out the action. It now almost feels as smooth as a Tikka action. If you get the 4th Gen RPR I highly recommend you get it

How are the triggers and are there aftermarkets for them? Has anyone changed a barrel on them?

I'm Ok with the factory Ruger marksman trigger. I don't mind the blade as some people do because it sort of primes me for pulling the trigger there is a small amount of creep but it breaks at the factory setting of 21/2 lbs. I've read somewhat negative reviews of the Timney trigger for the RPR

Timney Triggers Ruger Precision Centerfire Trigger

I'm waiting for the Triggertech RPR trigger.

TRIGGERTECH Two-Stage Triggers for Ruger Precision Rifles

I called Triggertech and asked them when it will become available, they said it should be out in the 3rd or 4th quarter of this year

besides triggers and barrels are there any bolt improvements/firing pin/springs that can improve this gun?
Google Ruger Precision Rifle Upgrades and you'll find a number of articles and suggestions, though not all the parts you’ll find discussed are still in production. I weighed mine down like I'm going to take it to a tractor pull. :ROFLMAO:

Well that’s not great news since I was considering one for each of Brenda’s RPR and RPRR. What kind of issues are you having.
The older trigger would break very crisp and consistently around 10 oz. The replacement/s would break around 1LB+ and it is not a crisp break. It seems like I keep pulling on the trigger, then I hear a faint click, then it breaks. I have sent it for repair 2 times and they keep sending me a replacement, still no improvement.

Hi folks,
New on here but was wondering if anyone could comment on or has metrics on average barrel life for RPR Gen3 6.5CM barrels, when should i expect to start looking for a replacement barrel. Thank you,
I’ve read rough numbers of about 3,000 rounds, but that will vary significantly with the loads you use. If you reload, and you aren’t pushing very long ranges, use a mild load to keep muzzle velocity down. I use 39.8 gr of 4350 with 140 gr ELDM in my loads. But, having said this, my advice is, don’t go by round count. Keep the barrel clean and oiled and shoot it until accuracy falls off.

Took my 6.5 CM shooting today after changing the length of pull, moving the scope back an inch, and lightening the stock trigger to the minimum, so, needless to say, my shooting was a bit rough. But, anyway, one thing I did do was measure barrel temperature during the course of my 40 minute session by taping a thermocouple just forward of the hand guard. Outdoor temperature was 70. By the time I was done shooting 40 rounds, the barrel temperature rose to 124 degrees - so a bit over 50 degree rise. I was hoping to measure impact shift with temperature, but with all changes I made, my shooting was a bit erratic. Next time!

If I remember correctly I changed my original barrel around 3600 count. I am sure I could have gone for more round count, I just had $$$ that were burning a hole in my pocket, so I ordered the Brux barrel.
