Ruger/S&W vs higher end rifles

Looking to pick up a AR to haul around on a side by side and tractor.
Will be running a Mro HD and a turbo k can.

Will these S&W and rugers in the $800 range give me the reliability of higher priced rifles such as sig, DD, lwrc.. etc

I see people saying they run psa rifles and never have issues.

Just looking for reliability and 1moa or so with good ammo for dispatching critters and protection from the local crack heads that wonder into the hay fields from the highway

I was looking at the sport 3 and some of the volunteer series and then whe rugers with the free float rails

I’ve got a 69smk load that has shot well in everything, planned on using it if it does well.

I believe the Ruger is a CHF 5r barrel also

I have a smith and Wesson 300 blackout That I bought around 14 -15 years ago when they first released them . It's nothing special compared to what's available now days . I have no complaint's it has been reliable and accurate . Not everything needs to be tier one . Mine ride's in my side x side frequently . Personally I would go with the smith and Wesson .

You could do that with a 500$ palmetto. Maybe not the 1moa part but unless you are shooting squirrels or coyotes at 300 yards a 2moa rifle is fine.

The accurate, reliable, inexpensive TRIAD....you get to pick 2 (at most) on a factory complete gun if we're being honest and not abiding by internet tales of a lucky group of 3 shots...1 time becomes "1 MOA all day" or 500 rounds and no problems...GTG is a testament for reliability.

The higher tier stuff I've always seen an expectation of 1.5 MOA +/- 0.5 MOA. Lesser tier stuff, 2.5 MOA +/- 1MOA with BH or FGMM 77gr.

And in comparing 5 generations of academy fleet rifles as a whole (Colt, Bushmaster, Rock River, S&W, SA Saint) with 15 years of HK, KAC, Hodge, DD, LMT, Colt... we have seen some FUNKY part failures in lesser-tier guns. With the exception of the Saints that are at the beginning of their life cycle, instances of failure on pretty much anything are rare inside of 5k that are not the result of out-of-spec parts or assembly errors (which tend to happen more on lower tier but can also be found on occasion higher up). With the Rock Rivers and S&W, all bets were off at about the 10k round count mark. The HK's and the more conservatively gassed guns with CHF barrels have all had exceptional lives being pushed 20-25k with little more than 1 or 2 sets of gas rings.


And if I'm being completely honest, with the excpetion of requiring something ultra-specific/niche, or desperately clinging to a set budget, both the ultra high-end boutique and ultra low-end budget market are kinda stupid given what one can have for about $1-1.2k and pretty much guarantee a 1.5-2 MOA guns that can probably give a boringly reliable 15k+ service life.

I suspect from now till the political ads start ramping up, the AR parts market is YOURS for the taking.

I’ve had one of the original M&P sports (without ejection port cover) for a long while. Bought it for too cheap when they were transitioning to the sport 2. It has served well in ATV and tractor duty dispatching many coons and the occasional daylight yodel dog. And I don’t feel bad when it gets banged up;
Just rattle the krylon can and cover the scars.

It’s hardly a 1MOA rifle but it does the job as long as I do my part. It runs fine, even when the bolt is covered in fine dust because it doesn’t have a cover (what a dumb idea Smith had there).

Can’t comment on Ruger. I thing an inexpensive S&W carbine would be serve well in that role. Mine sure has.

Got her today and put on new furniture and a geissele sd-e.

Picking up a 1-4.5 mk3HD tomorrow for it.

Got the mk3HD today. Couldn’t wait. Ran a few rounds out in the yard and with the turbo k-rb it runs great with the non adjustable gas block. Phew!

Yup, I’m glad it shoots well with cheaper end ammo.
I still want the super duty, but I’ve got less in this entire set up than it. We will see how it holds up

"Inexpensive" can provide quite a bit of value ( bang for your buck ) .
