Member Link Up San Antonio Texas Shooters

It’s on a road called Old No. 9. Call Twisted Precision in Center Point for more details. Pretty sure is limited access, or access with a member, at this point, but understand it could open up if they can secure a range master for weekends.

Thanks for the info. Where are you shooting?

The owner of Twisted is a good friend of the range owner and able to give you current status of range access. If in Austin, Best of the West has 1k range. Dietz outside New Braunfels has 5 or 600 yds.

Dietz has 200yds and has never been the same since the 'old man died - there is a private range right next to Dietz that belongs to Central Texas Silhouette Association it is members only has a 500yrd range, and they shoot some f-class there occasionally - used to OK, you could go when ever , but then some "operators" went stupid with a 50cal and messed up berms , target stands and other shit - so whole lot of new rules in place not so great any more

Other option is Valdina Ranch, but believe is match only shooting. Another is South Hills Range, but they just changed rules and require an appointment and owner or designee present to counsel newer shooters. Nice family and facility, but about $100 per person to shoot for up to 4hrs.

I shot at South Hills Gun Range in Utopia earlier this year. It was a nice range w/ paper at 100 & 200 yards. Steel was laid out from 350 - 1,060 yards. The range is nice, well taken care of, no trash, etc. The owner was a very nice guy. We paid $50 per person though prices may’ve changed. I wouldn’t have a problem going back, but it’s not worth $100 for a 4 hour visit.

Howard Dietz was a friend of mine. I miss him. I used to shoot sporting clays with him and he built me a rifle once. He was a fantastic gunsmith and specialized in benchrest rifles.

$100 seems to be the going rate. I shot at Joshua Creek last week in Boerne area, for $100. Had some nice steel out to 1020 yds. Targets were 482 (sig range finder) 600, 880 and 1020 on the setup where I was. I believe they have other targets on the place. It is a huge shooting preserve for upland birds, deer and hogs. No target shooting during the elongated hunting season (September through March)

I met his wife a few months back, she was really sweet. The guy that runs the place now rubs me the wrong way, but I still go there to shoot groups when sighting in.

If you're looking for basic steep banging, there is Lonestar Handgun in Converse. $10.95 for all day, steel rifle targets at 100, 200, 300. Not bad for plinking or working on fundamentals. Their pistol range is pretty fun as well.

Anyone have an update on range on Old No. 9-or South Hills-had thought No. 9 had gotten over neighbor issues and building berm, but maybe still private. South Hills still open or closed during managed hunting through 2/20? Need to get some time at distance and opportunities are pretty limited in the Boerne/Kerrville/F’burg area.

I messaged a friend about Old #9 earlier today and was told it is closed. He didn't give me any details
