SAP sling slipping?

I'm having an issue where the cam adjustment is not locking down on the webbing and allowing it to slip under tension. Contacted SAP and they said to exercise the cam buckle, drop oil where the cam rubs on the side plate, and snap the cam after moving it to it's full range. All this was to no avail.

They sent out a second sling and it has the same issues. I'm considering filing the cam serrations to sharpen them up a bit in the hopes that it will bite the nylon more aggressively.

Is anybody having success with their sling? It seems to be a good design, but just in need of a little "enhancing" on my end.

Cheers.

Tony Burkes at TAB Gear explained this problem to me as the result of slightly too-thick coating on the cam buckle -- the steps that SAP suggested to you were to break up or counter the effect of that coating in the pivot area.

You can try filing the teeth, but in my limited experience that doesn't solve the problem because the thick coating on around the pivot still prevents the teeth from clamping hard enough on the strap.

The two faulty buckles you've received are likely from the same faulty batch; I think your best course of action is to return the second sling and get a third one, hopefully with a cam buckle from a different batch.

Maybe the hardware they are sourcing for that buckle was changed somehow by the ones fabricating it. Having less aggressive serrations or even slightly changing the geometry of the hinge section would change how it is able to hold adjustment under tension.

We have 2 that have the crap used out of them for about 4 years and they don't slip. Even used to the point the webbing is a little fuzzy on the edges and no issues. Work with them and see if you can collectively get it resolved. The SAP crew are excellent people and will take every opportunity to make you happy.

Good luck.

I just went and looked at mine and it works great no slippage. It's about 6 months old. My guess is maybe a problem with the buckles manufacture.

Its definitely a problem with the buckle MFG. The quality control from them sucks. The SAP sling works awesome otherwise. Just email them and have them get you one that holds. Sometimes the buckles dont show signs of slipping until the sling has been used a bit.

Man, these things should be made to last for a long time.

Anyway, newbie here. I'm glad to have found this great online snipershide discussions community. I'm hoping to learn more from the other members here. Whenever I'm taking a break from this particular interest, I'm usually found at home, feeding my Pomeranian with some treats and watching TV with my wife. And when we're not indoors, we would play catch in our backyard with our dog (though we had to secure one of those petsafe Stay+Play wireless dog fence, just so he wouldn’t stray far from our yard. Our neighbor had a weak wooden partition, and we once had an argument when the poor fella ended up on his lawn). Such a simple, yet, happy life. Cheers, everyone!

They do.
I have 2 that continue to be used hard by multiple users. Edges of the nylon is getting fuzzy and the buckles do not slip on either.

If the hardware is not up to snuff, they might slip regardless of new or used. If hardware is GTG, then it should hold tight either way.
