Hello SH,

So I am thinking hard on a new stock.. I have seen many threads on this but was wondering what is preferred. I am getting into tactical matches and right now shoot quite a lot. My first matches is a couple months off from now. My current weight for my rig is 12.8 lbs i don't want to shift from this much as I like it lessons recoil but is still no problem to move with.

MY main limitation is the bottom bolt release on my Savage.. Id like a McMillan or HS are these decent? Whats the ticket on one of these and Does anyone have one maybe they dont want any longer

I liked the McMillan A5 and I think you will find there are quite a few that like those over the Manners due to color options and price. My personal opinion is to look at the Manners. I have a Savage 10 PC and got the T4A. Now they have the elite tactical lay-up and they are even lighter. Sweet stock!!! The stock is amazing. Looking at the T6A in the elite tactical lay-up this time around. I know that's what you asked but I wanted to offer another option. Sorry if that was not what you were looking for.

Not a fan of the HS but that's just my opinion.

No apology needed man , great info and i will look into them . I actually dont want my gun much lighter or heavier... 12lbs is give or take a lbs is very comfortable to me. are the manners very light ?

I have a McMillan A5 for my bottom bolt release savage. It's a great stock, very solid. I was also able to order it with the exact specs that I wanted. It will be slightly heavier than the factory stock. HS does not make a stock that is a direct fit for bottom bolt release.

Either a Manners or McMillan, inletted for factory DBM, should work with the bottom bolt release - might just need a fuzz of inletting around the trigger guard area that can be easily done by hand.

I have two McM A5s on my Savages and like them a lot, but I bought them both used for a good deal. I've previously owned a Manners T2 and it was a great stock, and would not hesitate to buy another from Tom & company.

How much did it run you , Your saying them build ready to just drop my barreled action into? . Any noticable increases in accuracy or just a better feel.

Check that link out. He puts some info on weight in that thread. Mine is the T4A w/90% carbon fiber fill. This elite tactical lay-up is a 100% carbon fiber shell.

Mine is a Savage 10 PC
20" factory heavy barrel
Stock barreled action
SWFA 5-20X50
Adj cheek
Manners T4A with 90% carbon fill

I'm at 13.4 lbs

Depending on optics with the T4A in the elite tactical lay-up I think you could be right in the range you want to be in.

I ordered mine with LE discount, but without it I think it would have been around $800. It does have the adjustable cheekrest, flush cups, and pillars. Yes, it is fully inletted for the action and bottom metal. I don't know that there is any increase in accuracy, but the feel is 200% better than the accustock.

Here it is:

You can get your action converted to top bolt release and then that will open up your options.

I feel like this is somewhat overblown these days. What high end stocks can you not get for the bottom bolt release Savages? I know HS doesn't make a stock for them. But McMillan, Manners, McRee, XLR all make stocks/chassis for them. Plenty of great options there.

AICS, like this.

Yep, it's a dark eagle mag (excellent products). Yeah mine dropped in just as easy as the factory stock. Also I forgot about the AICS for Savage...will not fit with bottom bolt release.

You would need to bed the action. If your coming from an accustock, you'll find that a good bedding job with a good aftermarket stock will make a world of difference. My savage was originally a sub MOA rifle, assuming I took my time, but I'm not claiming it was under .5. With the new stock, I seem to have improved and believe it is a .5 or better now. To be completely honest though, I had done some load development for this rifle and I did make a few adjustments while waiting on the action to be bedded. Could be dumb luck though. The biggest thing I noticed though was the POI shift between stocks. I shoot suppressed and with the bedding job in the Manners, it changed the harmonics and my POI shift increased. Nothing I can't overcome but it was noticeable.
