Hello from Texas.

Just wanted to say I am very pleased with my new Savage.

Great bang for the buck.

Took it to the range with pet loads from my former Lapua and once the Savage broke in
the holes were overlapping one another from a cold barrel.

Only my hand me down Winchester pre 64 model 70 does that.
Homer Nagel built it for my dad years ago.

anyway

Looking forward to testing some Retumbo and 869 along with some 300 grain Bergers at distance.

BTW
Sierra has suggested case length data on their exterior ballistics data at 2.724".

Dont trim them that long,it will not extract spent cases of that length.

Most data suggests shorter than that, mine wont digest anything longer than 2.720".

If this data is old or a mute point so be it,otherwise it might keep someone else's blood pressure lower.

If anyone has some pet loads they would like to disclose.....please do so.

Thanks,
out

Re: Savage 100BA in .338 Lapua Mag report

A load that seems to be working well for me (best 3-shot group is under 1/4" at 100 yards, and even my lack of precision rifle skill produces 1/2" or better groups frequently

):

Case: Lapua, trimmed to 2.714" and only a "brush" of a chamfer. Neck sized to .365" for most of the height of the neck

Primer: Federal Large Rifle no. 215

Powder: Retumbo 87.0g (but 85 to 89 seems to work almost as well)

Bullet: Sierra 300g Matchking, seated with Redding Competition die, with case-base-to-ogive set for 2.8695".

COAL: 3.7295" +0 - .003 (fits in mag and feeds well). This is way short of the lands, but it actually IMPROVED accuracy when I backed off from 3.7325" which fed with just a bit of difficulty.

Like I said above, good results at 100 yardsm and the same load worked well at 250, 500, and 1000 yards last weekend.

Thanks for the info.

I have lots of H-1000,H50BMG and VihtaVuori N-165.

A friend said that Retumbo gave a good push out of this 1-n-9 twist.

I will get some very soon.

Re: Savage 100BA in .338 Lapua Mag report

my load is trimmed lapua case to .714, 87gr of H-1000 pushing a 300gr SMK set 20 thou off the lands. This load has been good out to a mile. Here are some of my groups at 300 yards with that load. Good luck
