Finally started putting my MKII together. It is not complete quite yet, but I decided to go ahead and post the build in hopes to get some ideas on how to finish it off. First off I would like to thank Chris Wallis at Wallis Forge. He took the time out of his schedule to make my stock and I am VERY please with it. The craftsmanship and finish is excellent. Sorry for the crappy cell pics. I will get the camera out tonight and get some better pics up when I drop the action into the stock. Will also update thread as I finish the project and will get a range report as soon as I can.
So far this is what I have:
Savage MKII FV
Wallis Forge stock
Harris 6-9
Cheap Wally world sling
Plan to add:
EGW 20 moa base
Weaver Tactical 30mm rings
Anti can't device (not sure which one yet)
SWFA SS 10x (possibly 16x)

Re: Savage MKII build (pic heavy)

I posted this in the rimfirecentral thread as well but why not here too. How's the quality of the Wallis Forge stock? I was looking at purchasing one but I wasn't sure how the quality was going to be. Is it lightweight? Tried to fit everything together yet? I'm curious if they fit the E-receiver or not

Re: Savage MKII build (pic heavy)

Post pics when you get this thing together. I have been toying with the idea of this or a 10-22 tactical trainer. And please share your feedback on that stock. I am not familiar with them.

Re: Savage MKII build (pic heavy)

More pics will be up tonight when I fit the action to the stock. I was VERY impressed with the stock when I opened the package today. Very solid! Palm swell and forend are perfectly sized. Textured finish is nice and uniform on all sides. Chris fabricates his own bottom metal for them. It is also sturdy and fits nicely. I have nothing but good things to say about it! Will post some better quality pics here in a couple hours.

Re: Savage MKII build (pic heavy)

That WF stock is pretty freaking cool, I just couldn't get past the price tag. I mean $300 for that or $100 for the tacticool which to be honest is really really similar in design. Looks good on yours tough man. Cheers. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Re: Savage MKII build (pic heavy)

Very nice stock... Looks firmiliar for some reason

... You definately have my dream trainer started there.

And for the rimfire I would only go with the 6x or 10x SS.

Good luck,
Merritt

Re: Savage MKII build (pic heavy)

Yes Chris fabricates and supplies the bottom metal and trigger guard. I think it is the polished finish (combined with the camera flash) that gives the appearance of a weaker material, but it is very solid! Not sure what type of material is used for it, but it is fine by my standards. I am considering buying a chunk of nice laminate and begging him to do one for my 10FP.

Re: Savage MKII build (pic heavy)

Trying to decide on what scope I want now. Can't wait for some warm weather to get out shoot! So far I have shot it a few times with a 3-9X40 and it performed great with CCI blue box. Will post up a range report when I stretch the distance with it.

Re: Savage MKII build (pic heavy)

Sorry guys. I don't have a update as of right now. I will be putting some glass on top of it this month for sure! Still have not decided exactly what yet but I have had a little 3-9X40 bushy on it definitely shoots! Very excited to get some good use out of this toy this summer. I don't want to break the bank on optics for this so more than likely I will end up with a 10X or 16X SS.

Re: Savage MKII build (pic heavy)

I'd go with the 16xSS. I have the 20xSS on my Remmy sps 308 and I've had the chance to shoot my buddies MKII FV with a 10xSS. The 10x is great if you plan on staying within 100 yards but the 16x is a lot nicer if you're planning on stretching her out to say 300. Just my .02

Re: Savage MKII build (pic heavy)

Go 16 or 20x

The 10x is great for anything super close range like 25 or even 50 yards but even then I wish I had gotten the 16x. And if mine were for long range 22lr then I'd probably opt for 20x

JMHO, Nice rifle

Re: Savage MKII build (pic heavy)

Thanks for the input guys. I will more than likely go 16X. This project along with a couple others is dragging ass. Long story short my wife lost her job almost 5 months before my 3rd child was born. So she was off until Chase turned a few months old so I had to bite the bullet and put priorities in order. From now on there will only be one project at a time though! Lol. I promise a range report will be out soon. Thanks for the kind words on the project, it is driving me crazy sitting here useless!!!

Re: Savage MKII build (pic heavy)

Looks great, I'd get the 1/8" thick bottom metal from www.savagegunsmithing.com.
It makes a difference in accuracy and you can torque it without it bending. They also do a great accuracy package, my BRJ has now shot a best of .117", 5 shots at 50 yds with Wolf MT, it improved the groups by almost .3", the gunsmith really knows his stuff when it comes to making the MKII's shoot. He does a great brake to.

Re: Savage MKII build (pic heavy)

Well my 16X SS came in today. Mounted it up real quick for a few quick cell pics. I will post back with a range report as soon as I can. I am glad this one is wrapped up, seems like it has drug on forever. I still plan to have a bolt knob installed sometime in the near future. Thanks for all the kind words. Will also post some better pics soon.

Re: Savage MKII build (pic heavy)

Get us a range report! It is a really nice build, I just can't seem to get into the Savage rimfire actions. Maybe looks, maybe partly feel. You sound like you have exactly what you want though!

LOL, I wish i could. We have had so much rain lately i have water sitting in my back yard still and where it isnt sitting the ground is still sopping wet. I am planning to trying to mow this sat and sun, hopefully it cuts fine because I swear there are Vietcong soldiers hiding back there in the bush.
