Hide recommendations on a scope for NRL22 matches. Will be going on a Anschutz 64. What mag range will be optimal? Just looking for some ideas. I havent really been paying attention to the sub $600 scope market. Must be had in Mils. and of course a close parallax. Probably prefer a 30mm to save a little weight. Kiddos will be using it mostly.

Unless things have changed, the Cronus is made in Japan and all the other Athlon scopes are made in China. Don't let that fool you though. They are well made and Athlon stands behind their products.

Another +1 for the Midas TAC. I've had it and the Vortex DB Tactical FFP. No comparison between the two. The Athlon would be perfectly fine on any rifle, rimfire or centerfire. I replaced the TAC with an Ares, but it is not a huge step up at all IMO, just marginally better.

I started with a Vortex HST 4-16, it only focuses to about 30 yds so I sold that and picked up a Nightforce SHV 4-14. Focuses close and the glass is great, but I felt like I was wanting a little more magnification a lot of times. So I sold that one and picked up a Gen II PST 5-25. Focuses to just under 25 yds and the glass is pretty good.

I use an S&B 5-25 on my custom 64 MPR...Gen IIXR reticle. Couldn't be happier.

How does the Midas TAC compare to the Vortex Viper Gen 1? I have basically zero complaints about my Viper, but I want to switch to mrad optics, so looking for something in the same price range.

Also, anyone know how it might compare to something like the more expensive SWFA 5-20HD?

Forgive my ignorance because I’m just now starting to look at getting into shooting nrl22 matches, but does the capped wind turrent on the Midas tax present any problems.

If it makes you feel any better, Nightforce ATACR scopes have capped windage knobs too. Its definitely not a problem as tons of people don't dial windage.

My personal preference: dial elevation, hold windage. Elevation tends to be closer to a constant with only minute changes where windage can vary greatly between shots.

I have an Athlon Ares BTR 6-24x50 on my Kidd 10/22, and a Vortex Viper PST Gen II 5-25x50 on my Vudoo V-22. The Vortex costs 2-3 times as much, but I can see a big difference in glass clarity. I think it has earned me a few more points in matches.
I haven't tried the Midas. One of the guys in my NRL22 club just put one on his V-22, so I'll check it out at the next match.

sightron siii 10x50x60 30mm or delta stryker hd 5x50x56 sfp or even the 5x30x56 ffp both 34mm in either mill mill or moa moa none of them are particularly heavy .

I've not checked all the scopes suggested above, but does having an illuminated reticle come into play when choosing a scope for NRL.22 (or .22 PRS style) matches? Is it of some help occasionally? No help at all?

Maybe, and not really.

I have an illuminated sig Dev-l mill. I've not thought to turn the reticle on once. It could be useful for black painted steel (our steel migrates from White to black based on season and snow).

Only downfall of the sig is parallax stops at 50 yards. I can still hit the 25's just fine but I find myself going down to 4x on the close targets and back to 16x everywhere else.
