whatever happened to that scope that used to be on SWFA's site, I believe it was a yukon that had a digital camera built into it? It had the little digital screen right above the ocular lens.

I thought the concept was pretty interesting. It said it could be set to click off three succesive pics at the time of discharge which I think could come in handy for training purposes, for young ones or even us old ones. Imagine being able to see the sight picture at point of discharge AFTER the shot and be able to coincide it with a bullet hole, imagine the effective analysis processes you could do. Or to see what the wind was doing when you fired and understand why the bullet did what it did.

anywho, just curious what came of it, was it determined crap, was it discontinued, were there some sold and peeps still have em and how do they work if so?

Re: Scope w/ camera built in?

The scope is called the SmartScope by Adirondack Optics. I made the original prototypes for them back in 2002. They were working with Meopta on the production of them but there was a falling out.
There is talk to get this thing back into production here soon.

Re: Scope w/ camera built in?

On the Elcan are you actually looking through the optics or at a digital image? I remember reading a review about the Anorondak scope in OUtdoor Life or one of the other magazines and they were less than impressed due to you were looking at a digital image that didn't keep up with the motion of the rifle. It had like a 1/4 second delay.

Re: Scope w/ camera built in?

reelman,

The Elcan is essentially a "digital camera in a scope tube with reticles" - similar to looking at the display of a digital camera. There is no image if scope is turned off or batteries are dead. I don't recall detecting any image delay or stabilization issues.

Not true. The SmartScope was a real optical system just like any other rifle scope, no digital viewing at all. There is a beam splitter and set of focussing lenses in the RFP that took the image and transfered it to a digital capture source.

That may well be. I thought it was a review of the Anorondack scope but it might have been a different manufacture.

No optics. It's similar to looking through a digital camera. There is no delay either. The holdover shot I take at 3:15 in the video is actually at 420 yards which is pretty good results for a setup like that.
