I was at the range yesterday and got a chance to go out to 800 yards. I was zero'd at 100 yards at 0". Using my app, I was pretty much dead on which was about 4.5 moa at 300 yards. when I calculated for 500 yards, it told me I needed about 11 moa. Well turns out after a few shots I found I only needed about 6 moa. Then i calculated the load at 800 yards and it came up with about 25 moa. Turns out I only need about 11.5. Any ideas as to why this was off so much? I called Jason at USO (I'm using an ST-10) and he told me I was doing everything correct on the knob and actually he experienced the same thing the other day. I am using FGMM which was in the apps bullet library. Any help is appreciated.

Something is wrong, very wrong. A projectile with a G1 BC of 1.0 doing 3000fps (WELL beyond anything a 308 can shoot) in a normal environment would require close to 14 moa come-up to get to 800yds off a 100yd zero. 11.5 minutes at 800 off 100yd zero means the bullet only drops 92" - no way is that right.

Are you ABSOLUTELY sure you are shooting at 800 yards? Also, sure that the scope is in MOA, and not MILS?

The come-ups your ballistics program is giving you sound very close to right, as in +/-0.5moa.

Would like to hear more about this, as it is an interesting ballistics problem.

yes I confirmed everything was correct on my end. I ranged the targets with my mil reticle and verified it with the range master. It may not be 800 exactly but is within 10 yards.

Re: "Shooter" Ballistics App and new GAP rifle

would a 20 moa rail come into affect? there is not an input for this in the program as far as I can tell. Cant see why it would but thought id throw that out there.

So is the scope in MIL? If you have a USO with a MIL reticle, you probably also have turrets in MIL.

No. The 20moa rail would impact your 100yd zero, but would not have an impact after that. It would force down your 100yd zero, saving lots of come-up on the turrets.

Pretty positive its moa.

Re: "Shooter" Ballistics App and new GAP rifle

I would say either the scope's broken or you actually did a whole other turn on your dial and didn't know it (thought you had did one turn for 10 minutes and really you had done 20?)

If it was in mils, it should be closer to 7 for 800yards, not 11.5

Re: "Shooter" Ballistics App and new GAP rifle

The app is giving you total MOA to dial onto your optics elevation knob, so at 300yds you put in 4.5 MOA, then at 500yds you would dial on a total of 11 MOA, and at 800yds you dial on 25 total MOA.

So if you take your initial 300yd dope of 4.5 MOA and add 6MOA to that for your 500yd line dope then you get a total of 10.5MOA and the ballistics program gave you 11 MOA at 500yds. You are within .5 MOA of what your program gave you.

The scope is set up with zero being 100 yards at zero. So I dialed to 4.5 for 300, dialed to the 11.5 mark at 500, and the 25 mark at 800.
