I think they hired the lawyers because they know stuff that the feds certainly don't want to have to go public, and they want their big payout. I don't think this is about protecting themselves from criminal charges as much as it is to get money from the feds to stay quiet. The feds will probably threaten some criminal action, but if the parents are stupid, they will find themselves in a fatal car accident or other tragedy like a double homicide-suicide over losing their son. Maybe the purpose of retaining the law firm it's just so they have a known "Killswitch" so that they can even stay alive.
I have zero doubt that they don't know more of what's going on. I find it interesting that it was made public that the day of the shooting Crooks supposedly googled what happened to another mass shooters parents, Ethan Crumbley, the Oxford Michigan parents that were in fact charged with basically not taking opportunities to prevent access to the gun that allowed the tragedy - those parents were sentenced to at least 10 years in prison.
All I know is something smells awfully odd with that supposed call to local police that their son and the AR (which I recall the Wray saying during the Congressional testimony the ATF "established" Crooks bought from his father but didn't know the price of the sale) were both "missing" the day of the assassination attempt. I mean, are we really expected to believe the parents called the police the day of the assassination attempt when Crooks was "missing" with the AR that day, which was supposedly his property anyway according to Wray; but the parents didn't call local police the other 43 times that Crooks took the gun to the range to practice?

This was the first GOPJ 13 investigation hearing that happened today. The witnesses were Dan Bongino, Eric Prince, and Butler police CS/SWAT Ben Shaffer. The interrogaters were Matt Gaetz, Cory Mills, Chip Roy, Eli Crane, and Andy Biggs.
It may seem long but because of the content it does go fairly quickly with lots of interesting comments. However this reminded me very much of the GOP investigation hearing into the PA election fraud of 2020. ASGH.
All witnesses provide good information, however it was fairly clear that Eric Prince was going to tow the line on the government narrative and appeared eager to secure a contract, Dan Bongino inferred that so many layers of incompetence can only be criminal malfeasance, and the Butler Police CS/SWAT Ben Shaffer did his best to present Butler PD's information honestly, basically inferring a significant level of SS "non-performance" (my words) that day.

Without watching any videos, Bongino and the rest of those fucks need to quit addressing the attempted assassination of a former U.S. president and presidential candidate as "incompetence" on the part of the SS.
They were quite competent except their shooter missed.
Bongino is not calling it incompetence lately. He was the first two weeks. I think the victim video is what broke him - even "the shift" (immediate SS around Trump) should hve noticed that guy walking on the roof. Now, he basically said when you have layered incompetence you have intent = criminal malfeasance. The Butler guy was nodding his head yes to most of Bongino's stuff.
