Re: shooting at manatee gun range, Florida

Sorry I chose to do what I did...

An absurd golf outing for a friend who is getting married and organized this as some kind of bachelor outing. A little odd since women never join us any other time!

As I played like dogshit, watching some of the cheatin-est, drunk, douche spiggots hacking their way through woods, rough, sand and water, and miraculously claim "bogey" walking off the greens, well sir, I surely was tempted to do some shooting at closer range!

I'll be heading down there next week come hell or high bullshit!

Re: shooting at manatee gun range, Florida

Ren,

What time do you think you'll be there Saturday? I'll be accompanying my Daughter, and perhaps a couple of her teammates, to Sarasota Saturday (and possibly Sunday if they do well!) for the Florida State Crew regatta.

It's about 25 miles from the rowing venue to Manatee! Last year I ducked out for a few hours on both days to do some blasting, and I am inclined to do it again this weekend!

Re: shooting at manatee gun range, Florida

let me know who all is going saturday, been wanting to get out to do some shooting

BTW the rowing venue is about a mile from my house, its not a long drive

Re: shooting at manatee gun range, Florida

I will be there at 8:30 because I have to leave at 11:30 so I can get at least an 2 hours shooting time. Captain duty is calling me on the river. The wife wants to go up river and relax around noon.
Hope to see all you guys there bright and early. Another reason for going early. Prime spots, cooler, less people, etc.

So it's agreed then, breakfast at James's house, after I drop off my daughter, then a drive over to Manatee!

I have to make sure I don't miss my daughter's races, or have any duties, then I can duck out of there for a few hours!

The rowing venue is a big draw for Sarasota and will only get bigger every year. It is first rate and this year's Southeast Regionals are being held there as well. Schools and clubs from all over the southeastern states train like hell for this and in the past have been soaked, or frozen their tails off (OK, maybe that's just Florida kids bitching...), in Tennessee at the Oak ridge rowing venue. Last year, my rascal's crew won silver in her freshman four boat, competing against crews from all over the southeast USA!

While the good folks of Oak Ridge, Tennessee (Atomic Rowing was an outstanding host last year) are great hosts, the chances of a rain out, or cold weather, is much less in Sarasota than in the pretty eastern hills of the Volunteer state. Last year there were Tornadoes!!! ( they didn't hit us, but went just north and east)

This is a great money maker for Sarasota and it will continue to foster growth of the sport for years to come. Sarasota will become a crew force to reckon with because of the foresight shown in building this venue!

I definitely want to make it to Manatee on Saturday.

I'll let JR know you guys are looking at going there, in case he has missed this thread.

Re: shooting at manatee gun range, Florida

Not sure what time I'll be there yet. Won't know the launch schedule for the Crew regatta in Sota until tomorrow and don't want to miss my rascal's race. After that it's pretty much a social gathering that I can easily bug out of until it's time to take the kids home, late in the afternoon!

Re: shooting at manatee gun range, Florida

As always.. good shooting and chattin with you guys. The wind was driving me a little batty but its all good. Even managed to break a clay out to 600! Good shooting today TDR and DirtDart.

Re: shooting at manatee gun range, Florida

Sorry to miss you queequeg, But I had to leave early. Ren made me stay an extra hour and my wife wasn't happy so he's in the doghouse.
After haveing a great shoot with Ren and meeting DirtDart I went up river, hung out on the sand bar for about five hours , came home sat in the hot tub, ate pizza, watched nascar practice and swam in the pool. What A great Flodida weekend.

Only messing with you Ren. Amazing After 4 beers she forgot all about it. She was fine.

Next time we are going to mix the targets and shooting positions so its more challenging. Great day at Manatee.

We more of the hiders to come out and shoot together.

Re: shooting at manatee gun range, Florida

Not this weekend DD. I may be back next weekend though as my daughter's crew team returns to Sarasota for the Southeast Regionals. Yet another long, tiresome, weekend requiring something to break the monotony!

This will give me time to load up some of the new 178 Hornady HPBTs I got for half price (Blemished Bullets on sale!!!) from Midway! I hope they weren't made half-good

.

Take care Mang!

Re: shooting at manatee gun range, Florida

Yep... Ive got to bail too. Gotta help the wife with some kind of charity thing from 10 to 2. Then its over to TDR's for a Beer... er.. i mean.... To check the AICS chassis out to see if we can possibly make something happen with a SPR action.

I need to get off my arse as well and make some ther' booolets.

Laters,
Ren

Re: shooting at manatee gun range, Florida

Who?? This crazy puppy?

Just Daddys little girl! The pic in my avatar was taken when we were at petsmart one day. I threw the doogles on her and couldnt stop laughing. She is a year old and 50 pounds of pure fun shepard... Not a mean bone in her body, unless you come knocking un-announced. Id like to take her up to Manatee one day but she would have to sit in the truck most of the time im sure.

Re: shooting at manatee gun range, Florida

Nope, accompanied my daughter to the southeast regionals and could not get away to shoot due to excellent rowing!

They qualified for nationals in Saratoga but it doesn't look like we'll be going since one of the girls has a family obligation that week and the crew won't go without her!

I admire the loyalty but kind of wish they could have worked it out.

Re: shooting at manatee gun range, Florida

Hell DD, that sounds mighty exciting! I'll get back to you. I promised my oldest daughter I'd take her out tomorrow as I had been spending a lot of time with her sister traveling to all the crew regattas, neglecting the older girl's shooting "needs"
laugh.gif

Turns out I have a day killing meeting tomorrow so I figured I'd book over to WAC (in ST. Pete) afterward, and at least get in some bench time with her and burn some .45s as well.

Banging new steel though could mean two days in a row of shooting! I've been aching to get back there to try out my new 178 Hornady HPBT loads at long range. I appreciate the invite!

Re: shooting at manatee gun range, Florida

I didn't get there, thus Dirt Dart's steel plates get to breathe a sigh of relief!
laugh.gif

I had to work in St. Pete Saturday so I went over to "Rules R Us" AKA Wyoming Antelope Club afterwards instead and shot at 100 yards...

Re: shooting at manatee gun range, Florida

Hey Dirt Dart, Ren & I are ready to make some dents in the steel plates. We want some ourselves so we will get the info from you on where you bought them.
See you Sunday.
What Time????

Queequeg You going??

Re: shooting at manatee gun range, Florida

Re: shooting at manatee gun range, Florida

Gentlemen,

That was an excellent outing today. I can't remember the last time I enjoyed shooting as much as I did today.

DirtDart's targets were fantastic, challenging and provided unequivocal feedback.

I look forward to next time!

Re: shooting at manatee gun range, Florida

Absolutely fine shooting today fella's! Awesome job getting those targets together DD, and thanks for the extra rounds QQ. I think Im going to try my 178 amax's to the same receipe.

Good meeting Johnathon from SRT today as well and Thanks for letting me shoot the AI a little.

Did you finish painting your garage TDR? Hopefully your other half wasnt too mad at you for playing hookie with me all day!

Looking forward to next time guys!

Re: shooting at manatee gun range, Florida

Ren,

You're welcome Mang!

I was just filled with the spirit of Memorial day steel target smashing, in keeping with DirtDart's generous target bulding initiative,

I load 178 AMAX's to the same recipe as the SMK and Nosler 175 grain match bullets except in LC or other mil. surp cases. Not an issue for your lapua brass.

I also found some 178 gr Hornady HPBT which I have only run at 100 yards. They were pretty nice, but I haven't done much work with them yet.
