Shooting mats...

I just bought a cross tac mat and omg am I glad I did.

Yeah this just happened to me too.

I was done fighting with the fucking fine sand in Utah to where I had everything position wise perfect, yet after 1 shot you'd basically dig a hole in the ground with your bipod and eventually your rear bag. Fuck that shit.

Bought a CrossTac and holy shit.

I have a few.

The tab for packing and when it is really windy out here in the Gorge. It's small enough to pack and has stakes to keep it in place.

Normally I use my Blackhawk rifle bag/ground cloth because it has several pockets to carry stuff. In the wind I can slide my kestrel and databook in the wing pocket by my elbows and the brass in the other side with the zipper. I can also carry my OBR or Sturgeon (308) in it as well with my spotting scope, databook and kestrel.

bought a Blackhawk mat on the way to Blackwater Precision Rifle class in 2004.Worked great there and was easy to roll up and carry when we moved to a new firing line.I have used the mat since then at least 2-3 times a month in all kinds of weather and with a little soap and water still looks new.Plus if you get tired of shooting, you can flip over and it is a comfy sleep mat.

The cross tac is awesome. The only thing I don’t like about mine is the location of the handles. Right at the twig and berries position when prone and using the rail against the bipod. Wish the carry handles were just cloth and laid flat.
If the handles are plastic cylinders around nylon webbing, just cut the plastic off -- the bare webbing should lie flat.
