Wow, that rifle looks great and sounds like a solid combo! I'm really impressed with the results of the shorter barreled rifles, it makes what to hack mine down another 4" to 18".....decisions, decisions.

I love the idea of a short barrel .260 and will have a 20"er by the end of the month. I do, however, believe that a loss of 10fps per inch of barrel is a little optimistic for every barrel. Most will probably be around 15-20fps per inch.

I will flat out state that the velocity loss will be greater than 10 fps/in. especially those first inches past 18.
FWIW:
The loss will be closer to 45 ft/lbs of energy average per inch from 18-24".
A 24" 260 barrel would have about 250-300 ft/lbs more energy than an 18" barrel.
With 139's at 2750 in an 18" they would be pushing around 2900 in an 24".
(This isn't interweb BS it's physics)
I run a 20" 260 AR and with 123 scenars, it requires about 29-30 moa at 1000 yards (STP) which I feel is awesome.
It'll shoot with-in any .308 and it's practical.

Ive already sent in a GAP Crusader in 260 rem to have its barrel cut down to 18". I want to see what this can do....

Well I can't say to those guessing, but I can tell you, I am using my load from my 24" Rock 260 and that is going 2850fps, not 2950, my 25" 260AI with 139grs goes 2940fps, so, I think someone's numbers are bit out there. Getting 2750fps is valid as well is getting 2850fps out of the same load in a 24" bbl, so I have that real world set of numbers to look at.

just a note, it's not a torque wrench, just a regular wrench. Don't know why it clicked in that video, I wasn't paying that much attention. His calibrated hands where probably off and overtightened it a bit.

Switch barrels will be available for it, and yes you can do it at home with an action wrench and vise.
Spare barrels are going to be offered as an option.

I'm definitely going to build my next rifle off of this action.
I was going to use the Badger but it looks too heavy for a the package that I'm looking to put together.

You mean lug, it's a 3 lug, but two in front and one in rear from what I understand. Like the Timberwolf, still a 90 degree throw.

Part of the sucess of the 260 in an 18 inch barrel is the 5R profile, and using powders that are burning efficiently in the barrel. If all of the powder is burned in the first 18-20 inches of the barrel, minimal gain will be seen by going to 24-26 inches.
Were are not shooting overbore magnums here, just realizing the potential of these short action calibers. I believe this is optimized with the 260 and 7-08. Also could be said for the 6.5x47 and 6.5 creedmore.

I'm paying some honest attention to this project.
Is there a noticeable advantage with the Norma 139gr FMJBT's over HPBT's? It there a Meplat issue?
What is the rifling twist and configuration? Would true polygonal rifling be to any advantage here?
I also wonder how light a barrel contour could be attempted before accuracy suffered.

There was no rhyme or reason for it, other than I didn't use my box of Scenars, because I had a box of Norma, and I figured I would use them up first. But they shoot fine, and are very similar to the Scenar, BC is a little less I think, but not by much.
The sight picture remains there if you do your job correctly. The brake on the rifle isn;t a brake but a flash hider so it does nothing to control recoil. Brakes work wonders on short barreled rifles though, I highly recommend them.

Geos load will be my starting load as my OAL will be longer @ 2.90
QL/QT shows 28MOA @ 1k
