Not a chance. It was pocketed because it is evidence. That gun will be taken out of service. Their gear will be preserved. May even take uniforms, gloves, etc.

Nothing is a souvenir. If anything the case may be used in a trial or a hearing. It may end up in a museum or more likely in a box in an archive for 50 years. But it willl not be “on eBay” and dude didn’t “pocket it” as a souvenir. But because he was trained to.

They plus-up though for these events with State and Federal LEOs. Basic site security is bread and butter for LEOs, so local civilians should not have been the first ones to notice the would-be assassin.
Any explanation for why he was able to get through is going to be looked at with a healthy dose of skepticism, as it should. They’re also going to have to explain why he wasn’t moon-roofed before getting into position, and why the PPD didn’t pounce on Trump as soon as they got the call over the net for even a possible threat moving into position.
There are multiple failures here across the whole principle protection posture, security rings, response times, and the evac. To add insult to injury, seeing those fat or tiny chics with their pony tails flapping around like they didn’t know what they were doing was not a good look for SS. The fat chic with suspenders to hold up her slacks that couldn’t even re-holster is an embarrassment, to put it mildly. She looks like she never handled a pistol much before that, and that is not the standard for SS PPD. Getting on the PPD is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Most SS agents have nothing to do with PPDs or VIP Details. They chase fake $100 bills around, working out of regional Fed buildings in plainclothes, following-up with retailers where the bills popped-up, stuff like that. Why were scores of capable male agents passed over to allow these physically unfit agents onto the PPD?

The first report I read said he had been hoisted to roof level by another office. My imagination is of him dangling from the roof by his elbows and chin as a rifle is leveled at him. He then unasses that bad situation for a better alternative.
Regardless of of what we know right now (which is very little), I doubt the cop walked across the roof, tapper the shooter on the shoulder, and said “Um excuse me, are you supposed to be here?”
