Re: SHWW Group

Guys:
We are really close to legalizing the use of suppressors in WA state. We really need you help to come through the last stretch. here is the latest from Randy:

Bill 5112 (allow silencer use) is stuck in committee and going to die unless it is pulled from the Rules committee for a third reading (vote on the Senate floor) by March 7th. I cannot emphasis enough the importance that all WA residents interested in silencer use must call their Senator and members of the Rules committee on the phone to urge them to pull bill 5112 from the calendar for a third reading.

Rules committee members http://www.leg.wa.gov/Senate/Committ...bersStaff.aspx

The last Rules committee hearing consisted of a “package pull” of bills that had no opposition and were expected to pass with little or no debate. I do not know why Bill 5112 was not included in the package pull since it had no opposition in the Senate Judiciary hearing, was not debated at all at the Judiciary executive hearing and was unanimously sent along with a do pass recommendation. I am not aware of any opposition to the bill 5112, and only 4 Representatives voted against the companion bill in the House. One of the Senate aides I spoke to said there was some opposition to the bill, but she would not be specific.

The price of a dozen two minute long distance phone calls is a small one to pay to enjoy the use of silencers in WA. We have until March 7th to get bill 5112 a vote on the Senate floor. If you can, call as many of the Rules committee members as you can. The most important ones to call are the chairman, vice-chairman and the Democrats.

One of their aides will answer the phone when you call, not the Senator. When I call, I tell them my name and city/state and that I am calling to express my support of bill 5112. The aide will probably suggest that you contact your Senator and the bill sponsors, but tell them you have already done so and want to know why bill 5112 has not been pulled from the calendar any sent to the floor for a vote. Ask them if their Senator intends to allow to pull the bill from the calendar and send it to the floor. If they do not say yes, press them for a reason why. Ask them who is opposed to the bill and why. End your conversation with a request that they pass along your concerns to the Senator.

Chances are you will have to leave a message if you call the chairman (the Lt Gov) or vice chairman. If you are not able to get through to the vice-chairman, keep calling until you do. Some of the aides will be in a rush to finish the call, others will want to talk. The Republicans will probably blame the Democrats for holding things up. If they do, ask them what they will do to help pull the bill from the calendar. Good luck and keep dialing.

Re: SHWW Group

So, I'm looking at the weather cameras:

http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/traffic/passes/snoqualmie/

That's pretty scary looking for this guy. I hate to say it, but I may have to catch you guys next go 'round.

Of course, if anyone wants to pick up a hitchhiker from Seattle, power over that pass early tomorrow and drop me on your way home tomorrow afternoon I'd be happy to chip in for gas/beer.

Re: SHWW Group

Just a weather update from a local guy, ( 15-20 miles east of the pass) its snowing with compact snow and ice on I-90. Not to sure what its doing in ellensburg since the weather there is Milder then it is where I am at.

Drive Safe in the morning guys, check the weather cams at the above link.

Bullshit! The M24 and the M40 are NOT the same weapon!

M40 rifle

The U.S. Army also uses the Remington 700/40x action as the basis for its M24 Sniper Weapon System.[2] The primary difference between the Army and the USMC rifles is that while the USMC M40/A1/A3 uses the short action version of the Remington 700/40x (designed for shorter cartridges, such as .308 Winchester/7.62mm NATO, 7 mm/08 Remington, .243 Winchester), the Army M24 uses the long action version of the same rifle.[2] The long-action of the M24 can use the .308 Winchester (7.62x51 NATO) but is mainly designed for full-length cartridges, such as the .30-06 Springfield, and Magnum cartridges, such as the 7 mm Remington Magnum, .300 Winchester Magnum and .338 Lapua.[2] The U.S. Army's use of the long action was the result of an original intention to chamber the M24 for .30-06[10]; despite the change to .308, retaining the longer action allows them to reconfigure the rifle in the larger, longer-range calibers if necessary. Additionally the Army's version allowed mounting of a night vision scope, whereas the older USMC versions were tied to the daylight Unertl 10X limiting sniping operations with the M40 and M40A1 from dawn to dusk.[2] The Marine M40A3 has a 115 meter farther maximum range with the 7.62x51 NATO cartridge.

The Remington 5R is an excellent rifle and yes, I would very much get the 5R instead of an SPS Tac.

Talk to the wrong people and they will fill you with bullshit. I'd really like to know what gunshop/gun salesman told you the M24 and the M40 were the same weapon.

A salesman's goal is to make a sale.

A SH Forum member's goal is to inform and educate. Plus the occasional heckle, name calling, insulting and bullshiting of course.

That seriously sucks Brother! Especially missing the match. Did you run over a few Obama lovers doing that? That drive shaft looks like it slammed into something. Or is that just damage from slamming into the hiway?

Re: SHWW Group

Hopefully that driveshaft just snapped and fell straight out. I've seen a friend's car do a little pole vault maneuver when his gave up on him. Yuk.

Well, probably better off I didn't make it out that way. The wife woke up with a 103 fever this morning. Least I was here to get her to the clinic.

Still....woulda loved to have made it out. We better see some pretty pictures come tomorrow, guys.

Re: SHWW Group

It was at the Bull's Eye. Granted the 5R is good, but not what I'm looking for. The guy just stood there looking at me like I was stupid when I asked "so this is a long action .308 just like the M24 right?"

The older guys in the store are fine, but this guy was full of shit.

Re: SHWW Group

Bummer Chad sorry to hear about that. Shooting was pretty miserable though. Winds were bad to say the least. 20 mph dope and sometimes that wasn't enough.

Good luck with the truck bro

Jake

Re: SHWW Group

Thanks Jake.... glad to hear you made it!

Sounds like the weather wasn't sharing everyone's enthusiasm...... hard to believe... February, foothills, the Great North Wet (dry side)...PERFECT... sorry I missed it.

Re: SHWW Group

We ahd a good time, weather was cold but not bad (shot most of it without gloves & didn't feel like Pillsberry Doughboy)

No snow until on the way home.

Good seeing some new faces and chatting with the old.

Wind, what can i say - it made the shots a lot harder , most 7-10mph, some 22mph gusts at 600+ , push the 223 + 308 around.

Re: SHWW Group

Tribe,
Sorry you missed the shoot, like Jake said, the wind came up and made it really challenging, you would have liked it. Bootneck9z45 took the match, he cleaned up with his 6.5 x 47 Lapua, great shooting.
There were a few of you in my squad that left before we had the scores totaled up, if you would like to know how you did and ranked in our squad PM me.
Thanks again to Scott for putting on another great shoot.

Re: SHWW Group

Sounds like you guys had a good shoot! Although, after having some -25 degree temps this weekend here in Montana, I'm getting really anxious for summer to come.

It's looking like I get to come back to home the green part of the nation in two weeks (march 12-19)! Anybody think they might be doing any shooting in the Lacey/Olympia area during then? It would be nice to meet back up with some of you guys who know how to shoot a rifle a little better than I.

Re: SHWW Group

Wanted to add my thanks to the crew who put on the shoot!

Alan, thanks for helping me through my boneheadedness with the elevation adjustments and getting me back on track. My score won't reflect it, but I do feel like I had a good learning experience.

Tribe, Bummer about the jeep! I hope there wasn't anymore damage than just the driveline.

Re: SHWW Group

Guys I just wanted to thank you all again for a great shoot! As a first timer, I really appreciate the warm welcome, and the chance to meet a great bunch of fellows. Now, I just need to work on getting all that dirt out / off my rifle. Man it was a blowing!

Re: SHWW Group

Thanks for putting this together Scott, it was well thought out, tough but not diabolical, and just enough time to force you to keep your pace up and make a few mistakes trying to fight the clock.

It was also great to meet some more of the west side members, all great guys and some real competitive shooters in the group.

Re: SHWW Group

Thanks to everybody that endured the crazy ass weather yesterday, i had a great time shooting in the challenging winds honestly. i felt like i learned more yesterday than on a calm day. Everyone was very safe and i felt like it went fairly smooth, honestly i think adam and the other scott did a better job of ROing than i did. thanks again.

We already brainstormed a few new stages on the way home last night that i think you guys are really going to enjoy. needless to say i will be building a few new barracades/obstacles.

I would like you guys opinions on when to hold the next match. currently it is looking like june is going to be the earliest i can put together another one. if you guys really want i may be able to squeeze one in april but march and may are a no go for me.

Thanks again guys for coming out!!

SB5112

Here's a copy of the letter I wrote. DO NOT JUST COPY AND PASTE!

Use your own words, and if you've got better/different points in support, then make them.

am a Washington state resident and registered voter. I'm also a gun
owner and competitive shooter. I'm writing to ask you to move SB5112,
allowing firearm suppressor use in Washington state, out of the rules
committee and onto the floor. Here are my reasons.
First, think of the revenue! A brief perusal of suppressor
manufacturer's websites shows that most suppressors are in the
$600-$1,000 range. Washington state collects over 8% on any sale. If
suppressors were legal to use in our state, sales would skyrocket. I
own four suppressors, average value around $650, which means I've paid
the 8% tax on $2600. Multiply that by the number of potential buyers,
and the state will benefit handsomely.
Second, it will bring us into compliance with federal law. At
present, suppressor purchasers must go through a federal background
check. After complying with this requirement, we have a federally
registered, serial numbered item that we can legally possess, though
not use, in our home state. It's like buying a car in Idaho or Oregon
and then being told you can't drive it in Washington. It makes no
sense.
Third, it would bring us into congruence with our neighboring states.
Idaho and Oregon allow suppressor use. What is it about our state
line that makes behavior on one side completely legal, yet the same
behavior on the other side a criminal offense?
Fourth, the noise issue. Shooting ranges have traditionally been
located out of town. As cities increase in size, residents move into
closer proximity with gun clubs. One of the major complaints against
shooting ranges is, of course, the noise. Yet we cannot use our
legally owned, federally registered, noise suppression devices to
reduce noise, because on OUR side of the state line, doing so is a
criminal act.
Fifth, shooter safety and health. Hearing loss is cumulative and
irreversible. A simple suppressor reduces muzzle blast in many cases
to a decibel level that will not cause hearing damage. Yet though
federally registered and legal to own in Washington, we cannot use
them.
Sixth, voter support. The firearm lobby can be a powerful one, and
being able to point to your assistance in getting this bill passed
could earn powerful support from gun owners in the future.

For these reasons, I am asking you to allow SB5112, which passed out
of the Judiciary Committee with majority support from both sides, to
continue it's progress towards becoming the new state law.

Sincerely,

Also, Senate Rules Committee is now in session. Call these offices and let them know you support SB5112, so they get fresh info drung any breaks. Fire Mission! Let's get it done! My understanding is that if doesn't get out of the comittee today, it's dead. Gone. Over.

I know its a little late to throw this out there, I will be heading to E-burg tomorrow morning to take care of some business early in the morning and I am planning on doing some shooting afterwords if anyone wants to join me. Probably me late morning through the afternoon if anyone wants to show up.
