Im enjoying my share of snow where once upon a time this was looked on as flurries.
Ive noted though that through human conditioning by the govt the slightest talk of snow becomes a reason to shut the world down.
It really picked up pace some 3 years or so ago when our socialist governor of the moment threatened anyone on the road with arrest for being out in a Motor Vehicle.
People now actually think that using the highways they pay for is an arrestable offense.
"See something, Say something" has a purpose but that purpose is not to stop threats against US. Its to alert the establishment of threats against Them.

Superior and Michigan aren't quite frozen right to the shore lines. Really hoping we get a good 2 or 3 weeks of brutal cold and no winds so the Superior shore line freeze solid and the fiance and I can take a trip up to the Apostle Islands Ice Caves.
The beech trees do that. Worse than white oaks. Tempted to go set them on fire on the windward side.

Not arrestable, but finable. States of emergency are used for resource management and to make sure they don't have to plow around someone's stuck car. In that case, if the car is damaged by the emergency workers, they or the state won't be liable for compensation. Per PAs code book:
§ 6108.
Power of Governor during emergency.
(a) General rule.--
In the event of a declared National, State or local emergency when the Governor of this Commonwealth has made a specific determination that modification of any of the provisions of this title will aid in the alleviation of the stated emergency conditions, the Governor shall have the power to so modify the provisions on any or all highways in this Commonwealth to be effective at any or all hours of the day or night with respect to any or all types or classes of vehicles. Such modifications shall expire at the end of the emergency period.
No person, unless specifically exempted by the terms of the declaration of emergency or by other provisions of the statute or other laws, shall violate any of the terms, conditions, provisions and modifications set forth by the Governor.
(b) Penalty.-- Any person violating the provisions of this section, other than violations of section 3362(a)(3) (relating to maximum speed limits), commits a summary offense and shall, upon conviction, be sentenced to pay a fine of $300. This penalty shall be in addition to any other penalties imposed under this title.

BOSTON (CBS) – Gov. Deval Patrick declared a state of emergency in Massachusetts Friday afternoon for the blizzard that could bring up to 3 feet of snow.
He also announced he has signed an executive order to ban all travel on all roads in the state starting at 4 p.m. Friday.
There are some exceptions to the ban, including emergency workers, those who work in hospitals and media, and others required to be at their jobs.
The governor said rapid snowfall of 2-3 inches per hour will make for, “extremely dangerous conditions,” and will “make safe travel nearly impossible.”
This is the first time that a Massachusetts governor has issued an executive order like this since the Blizzard of 1978.
But back then it was put in place after the storm.
Patrick did not say when this ban would be lifted.
If you don’t have an exemption and you’re caught on the road, the penalty could be as steep as a $500 fine or, at worst, a year in jail.
At a news conference at the MEMA bunker in Framingham, Patrick told reporters it’s not about the punishment, they simply need the roads clear during the blizzard.
“Essentially we want everyone off the road,” MEMA spokesman Peter Judge told WBZ-TV’s Jon Keller. “We’re talking common sense here.”
Public transportation will not be an option either. The MBTA is shutting down at 3:30 p.m.

I, Deval L. Patrick, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, pursuant to the power provided by Chapter 639 of the Acts of 1950 do hereby issue the following order:
There shall be a ban on motor vehicle travel beginning at 4:00 PM today and continuing until further notice. This travel ban shall not apply to the following: public safety vehicles and public safety workers, including contract personnel, public works vehicles and public works workers, including contract personnel; government officials conducting official business, utility company vehicles and utility workers; healthcare workers who must travel to and from work in order to provide essential health services; news media, travel necessary to maintain and deliver critical private sector services such as energy, fuel supplies and delivery, financial systems and the delivery of critical commodities, travel to support business operations that provide critical services to the public, including gasoline stations, food stores and hardware stores. Given this 8th day of February in the year of our Lord two thousand and thirteen at 12:15PM.

Nothing as bad as Sandy but it was pretty freaking bad. We got hit worse in the SE part of MA and RI than Boston. Wish it had shit all over Boston.
We had massive flooding next street to mine since it is on the water. Had to help some neighbors out with a place to stay. We had snow drifts 3 feet high due to the wind. Today the temp is dropping and fast. By tomorrow the wind chill will be -12 degrees.

Quite a bit different than the state of emergency declaration. Any-who, my understanding is Salisbury Maryland got about 6-8 inches, Delmar Delaware got about 10-13 and Laurel Delaware got 8-10. The temps have been crazy low with salt water in the bays and along the coast freezing and wind is blowing like they haven't seen in a while. Fret not, temps are to climb above freezing in the next week and rain is predicted. That should clear a lot of it out. The tidewater area of Virginia got nowhere near the accumulation they thought they would. I think it hit farther North than originally predicted.
Kind of sounds lie....misery.
Winter is actually really great when........skiing, hiking, snow shoeing, enjoying the outdoors in general.
but for day to day, the mess, the salt, the filthy snow banks, shitting up your car, dragging shit into the house, trying to find parking amongst the snow banks......it sucks.
If you only had to enjoy it, not endure it, winter would be great.

As a life long Midwesterner I always get a kick out of these stories. We always get a shitload of snow and freeze our butts off.
I lived near D.C. for a while though while working with one of those agencies with three initials and saw that four inches of snow nearly crippled the government. I actually sat on the balcony of my apartment with a smoke and a drink and spent an hour laughing my butt off watching people trying to get up the small hill associated with the main entrance of our complex. It was better than TV!

I know what your sayin...I used to love winter. Would go ice skiting in just a flannel shirt. Late at night when snowing heavy it would get so quiet you could hear the flakes fall. Today my busted up old frame just soesnt work worth a damn when it goes below 50% or so. When it hits 25% its jsut a total lock up. I love spring, green leaves and pink buds on the dogwood trees. Fuck a bunch of snow.
What blows me away is my wolves...I give those fuckers a frozen chicken leg, of slab of venison, and they go out on frozen ground when its 10% and love it.
I was supposed to be away for the weekend snow shoeing but my friend stated the high the other day was minus 9.

A friend of mine wanted me to go winter camping.....
I had to point out to him that I quit that sh** years ago. Of course, he spent most of his career as a senior NCO in the 10th Mountain. So he is batshit crazy at a level that I won't even go near. Also scuba qualified... so this wingnut goes scuba diving in this crap.
I have a wood stove burning, a glass of 19 Crimes in front of me, and a cat sitting on my head.
There is no Goddamned Way that I am going to go winter camping in this stuff! Did that when I was a teenager. Now I am older and smarter. Much smarter.
