A guy on another forum that works at a major receiving / distribution center in Calif. says incoming product from China has decreased 80% at one warehouse that normally gets 50 - 100 containers a day of essential household product. He says they're now they're down to 2 - 10.

He adds, they can't even get enough help willing to work to unload and stack what product comes in; forklift operators, warehouse help, etc.
When told they have to work 10 hour shifts many go on break and don't come back and if they do, there's no ramifications. Drug use is rampant and open and you can smell marijuana in the parking lot before shifts. He said one forklift operator had an accident and they wanted to drug test him. He said FU and walked off, came back next week and they put him back on the forklift, no questions asked.

In my experience a lot of these companies can’t find people because they suck, the turn over rates before covid were high and they were always hiring. You go to work and they act like you’re an asshole for showing up when half the people don’t. You have to pick up the slack with 2 people because the other 4 never show, but they won’t fire them so they keep not showing up. They just whine about them for a year till they quit, and take another 6-8 months to start hiring new people.

Also a lot of these places haven’t taken down their now hiring signs in YEARS because they can’t keep employees, when a business has an expensive, custom, and permanent now hiring sign...that’s a huge red flag.

The best part is when your supervisor who’s supposed to know how everything works constantly tries to have you break state/fed laws because they don’t know shit about the business.

I can’t tell you how many good employees who are trying to stay I’ve seen companies run off.

This shits been a big issue for years minus all this extra money the government pays monthly(I haven’t seen any of it myself). Yeah there’s people who want to mooch, but theirs a lot just trying to find somewhere that isn’t complete shit too.

I also keep hearing about crazy hourly pay and sign on bonuses I haven’t seen that anywhere here, not saying it doesn’t exist but I haven’t seen it. You can’t even get anyone to return calls about jobs you apply for.

When the hell did we get a raise? I ain’t got a raise in I don’t know how long. I make $60k which used to be good money. It ain’t shit now and I get taxed in some way for almost half that shit. And if you really count all the taxes you pay the real percentage is likely about 65-70%.

That small steel fabricator can't afford to continue a fabrication crew to stand around due to waiting on "slow to get here goods". Winter is coming on and already snow tires are a few months out...
