Sent that to my wife immediately so it’ll be the first thing she sees this morning…
People do need meaningful work/purpose but I doubt a fire control specialist is this guys calling.Well........I can't agree.
Read the book McNamara's Folly. This was the result of a pretty deep dive on this subject a few years ago, and I came away with a different view point.
First off we need to accept that everyone can't do everything. End of line, sorry I am not going to be an NFL lineman no matter how hard I work, at 5'7 and 150, even if I double my weight I will not be able to do that job. Same goes with jobs that require "brains". That does not mean that people that can't tie shoes can not be useful, and contribute the the betterment of the entire group.
Yes they handed guns to "low IQ types" and the result was not good, death for your team is never a good thing. However there are jobs they will excel at.
I remember the story of a "low IQ type" working in the hospital in Vietnam. He changed the sheets, emptied bed pans, cleaned the OR and in general. And he did it to a standard that was far higher then "regular" people. It was seen as work beneath so many people and so they did not put their "heart" into it, just went through the motions. Where as this "challenged" person found it stimulating, he was pushing himself (IMHO) doing these kind of jobs, and he did them to a standard that was far higher. The story was about a guy that got drafted, and he could not tie his own shoes. They managed through back channels to get him out of a combat role and into this hospital.
Now think about all the jobs behind the scenes, we have all seen the stat that says it takes 10 guys to keep 1 guy on the front line. What are these 10 guys doing? Some push papers, some drive trucks, others unload trucks, and some clean up the blood and empty bedpans at hospitals. All this work MUST be done, if it is not done the entire system will fall apart.
The key to doing this is effort, not MONEY. The solution is always more money, but no it is not. You need people to take TIME to really see what the best fit for this specific soldier was, and in this case it worked out great. I read another that repaired boats for the brown water navy.
The "jobs" are there, just putting the right people in those jobs is the thing that needs to be done.

Is this the job idk?
Fire Control Specialist | U.S. Army
In this job, you’ll use strategic skills to coordinate and integrate weapons operations. You’ll process and relay tactical battlefield information to a network of joint fires in support of mission-based operations.www.goarmy.com
Kids are sold a lie that they can be anything they want. You can be anything your capable of physically/mentally. I always thought that a measure of a wealthy society is how it’s most vulnerable are treated.
Very true, not everyone can do every job. I have another one for you.
Where I work we have dispatchers, the standing joke is dispatchers tell cops where to go.
I have seen that job, listened to that job and there is no way I could do it, I would have been fired in a week. 911 what is your emergency.......well I stuck my hand in the garbage disposal and could not feel the fork I dropped in, so I turned it on thinking it would move around and I could feel it, now my hand has been cut off and there is blood everywhere.
Don't worry, soon you will bleed out and your genes will not make it to the next generation, you are far to stupid to continue to live.
Past the idiots, when the spam does hit the fan, even something like a multi car pile up, these people will have 10 different conversations going at one time, the different cops going on scene, the FD, Life Flight, Reports on the C&I that caused the entire mess as well as people calling 911 to say there is a wreck on the highway when they see 10 cars and trucks with flashing lights all over the place or want to know why the traffic is blocked up.
All you have is a phone, and the stress is just insane, your mom may have just had a heart attack and the person on the other end is coming unglued, you need to calm them, talk them through what to check and what to do all while getting EMS there and again possible helicopter on the radio as well.
I can't keep that many balls in the air like they do. Lots of places have programs when you can go sit with dispatchers, do it and see that world. It might be a dull day, it might also be pure hell.
