HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) --
Five Houston police officers have been shot in southeast Houston. The officers were reportedly serving a narcotics warrant.

Details are coming in to Eyewitness News, but we are learning two suspects are dead at the scene. Sources say a third suspect is believed to be barricaded inside the house.

Well appears all officers are part of IIRC Narcotics Task Force 15.
News reports are saying Houston Police Union is requesting no names of the officers be released since they all work undercover.
1 officer that was shot in the shoulder is already home.
2 more officers (1 shot in leg and other hurt his knee taking cover) are expected to go home tomorrow.
Remaining officer is shot in the neck and in critical condition.

Sounds like they followed up on a tip with an undercover investigation and were under armed despite the known danger. They need to start serving these types of warrants with grenades, flame throwers, and machine guns set up. We need to go back to WWII and study the USMC doctrine on approaching suspected pill boxes. A satchel charge would have been nice.

Please keep in mind that this was a tip from a neighbor, do you want satchel charges thrown into your house because of a tip from a neighbor? Also the number of times officers go to the wrong house? It happens occasionally. Prayers to the officers and their families. Lets not militarize the police anymore than they already are.

Notice the Chief said they "Announced themselves as they breached". The uniformed officers were there to turn sirens and lights on per the Chief, lol.

Doorways and staircases (if you have em') are choke points when it comes to dealing with home intruders. Whoever holds the high ground above a staircase or a hidden position with adequate view beyond a door wins a firefight. Keep that in mind if you are trying to figure out the best way to protect a property.

When I was living in my now ex-GF's house (2 story) there was a cute little Victorian-style cabinet with one drawer right in the 2nd floor hallway between the bedroom and bathroom in full view of the stair landing. I placed a Glock and an extra mag inside that drawer. (No children in the household. Drawer is lockable and I have one of the keys on me all the time) The neighborhood wasn't what you would call "bad", but there was a recent rash of break-ins and attempted burglaries with injuries reported so I wanted to be on the safe side. My main CCW is holstered and kept inside the bedroom when I am in her house, but in the case we got surprised while I am away from the room, I can "surprise" right back pretty quickly.

That is pretty sound and makes perfect sense. Having followed the Armed Citizens column in American Rifleman and NRA-ILA, as well as articles by Massad Ayoob and Marc MacYoung, it only takes seconds for bad shit to snowball if the perps are determined enough to make entry and carry out whatever agendas on their minds...Like a dry Christmas tree being ignited.

Now that the market is pretty saturated with cheap, compact 9mm pistols, I would also recommend getting a couple as "all purpose" defense guns. In the event I have to use them in a SD situation, I'd put those on the front line anytime instead of my valuable, heirloom grade handguns.
