Spray Painting Rifles

Prepped with 3m scotchbrite and alcohol wiped. Sponged with Rustoleum roof flashing paint and finished with two coats of Matte clear. Don't skip the clearcoat. Tough as nails now. No more ugly corian looking stock.

I’ll be starting work on a Tikka stock as soon as I can get some time. Planning to do a Basic colour scheme and pattern.

That looks brilliant, well done.

what was the base colour of the stock for that paint job? I have a dark grey Tikka stock im planning to paint up at some point. Also, did you lay a coat of primer?

Basic color of this stock can be seen on Bergaras website. It looks like Black Corian. Basically black with grey splatter. If Bergara had simply left the stocks a solid color they would have been fine. The splatter makes them look like an old counter top.

I've got a b14r inbound that will get a new coat of paint asap. Probably do something brighter than the typical sponge camo that I usually do with krylon.

I posted this one up a year or so again. Didn’t like the way it originally turned out and finally got around to repainting it. Before and after pictures.

Looks great

I do more of the large swipe/stripe because I suck lol

My daughter wants a purple stripe Vidoo because my son uses my black gray stripe vudoo.
Wife said ok...so it’s just a matter of time
It was trial and error; I actually stripped our first attempt because the girls wanted to do the pink first, which dried orange. The sponges made it easy. I want to paint more guns now!

So I got a replacement stock for my M-24. HS sent me a new one that needed work, had to sand out the barrel channel and bolt handle inlet. Factory paint kinda peeled off. Finished repainting today. Spent last week looking at pics of M24 return rifles, and decided on this camo.

Return stock with simple pattern:

What's the best quality off the shelf spray paint? Meaning durability on the painted surface. I know I can get Durakote firearm coating in a spray can but that stuff is expensive.

What's your process for alumahyde? I've had zero luck with it ever truly drying/curing.
That one I did tediously. I stripped it down completely to small parts, cleaned with simple green and water and let them air dry for a few days. Before I sprayed, I heated all the parts with my benzo torch, just warm to the touch, so a quick pass. I sprayed in several thin layers. I actually let this one hang in a makeshift oven for a few hours a well. It was just a simple space heater blowing into a small confined space made with pink granite blocks. You can’t be rough with alumahyde for a few days or it will chip and peel bad.
