Finally decided to pick up an SPS Tac from my local shop today. There was some confusion over the price on my part. So the guy went to the back and brought out another TAC ($10 higher) and a SPS Varmint 20". I have not seen or heard of a 20" varmint so I took a look at it. Opened the box and stamped on the barrel is LT Tactical 1-10. Has anyone seen one of these before? I assume this is a barrel from the LTR in the varmint stock. I thought it was unique so I bought it. It was cheaper than the TAC so I didn't pay extra for it.

I'd like to see pics, because I've had both, the LTR and SPS Tactical, and there is a pretty big price difference between the two.

I have seen the SPS LTR before. Looked at it when I got my aac-sd. Guys at the shop really didn't know anything about it. Same trigger as the tac line.

I have seen them on GB and there was one for sale on here about 3 or 4 weeks ago.

All the .308 heavy barreled (non-5R) M700 actions are pretty much the same. The exterior finish and stock are the primary differences. The barrel from an LTR doesn't appear to be noticeably better than from a SPS-Tac or SPS-Varmint.

My favorite dealer has one in stock. I have been debating between it and the AAC threaded version. I really like the LTR barrel.

You are looking at a special order Remington 700 (stock#85470) LTR Barreled action on a SPS Varmint Stock. This is a 20” LTR Fluted THREADED barrel. 500 of these will be built by Remington and sold exclusively through my Remington supplier. This configuration will not be available in any retail stores.
This configuration is essentially a Remington 700 LTR rifle but with a 20” barrel, 1:10 twist, and a factory SPS Varmint stock. You will not find this stock number in the Remington catalog since it was a special build only.
Typical Rem LTR rifles have 1:12 twist and this particular configuration has a 1:10 to allow for the shooting of bullets up to 210gn and remain adequately stabilized. Typical 1:12 twist barrels will only support 175gn and below.

Yup they do exist I have handled one about 2-3 weeks ago at a Sportsmans Warehouse here in Rocklin, CA. They are really nice rifles and have the same exact fluting as the LTR rifles but different finish and different stock. (IMO the finished seemed different).

I know I'm bumping up an old thread but I'm wondering if anyone has any input on this limited production run rifle. I was recently introduced to one at a local gun shop and the dealer told me its built in Remingtons custom shop and he called it a Tac Driver. He then when on to tell me it is the same as a 700P LTR except that the custom shop threads the barrel and uses a Varmint stock inorder to reduce the cost. He continued to tell me it's a great deal since its a 700P LTR as a reduced price.
It seems that the dealer is either full of it, miss informed or both since I know the 700P has a 1:12 barrel.
Does anyone have any factual information on this gun?
Does this gun have the parkerized barrel and action like the 700p which is said to be more weather resistant then the blued finish?

I had gone in originally to look at an sps tactical but they didn't have any in the 20" barrel, after a little bit of bs'ing between us he remember he had another 700 but it was the sps varmint with the a 20" barrel. long story short he brought it out and i loved it. because it had everything i wanted without the price tag of the aac-sd they had knowing that i would be changing out the stock on it.
I ended up on this forum through a google search trying to find out what the hell kind of 700 I had actually bought. 85470 is the stock number on the box, so i'm assuming this is the same rifle in question.

That appears to be basically what I presume this thread to be about because I also have one of these rifles. I do not have the box readily available to compare the number against the number you posted and the rifle itself is at GAP getting a Manners stock, base, rings, bolt knob, etc.
However, one glaring difference I see is that those flutes do not look like mine or what I know to be flutes on an LTR based on the picture. My rifle was also about $50 more than the AAC-SD locally. I did not go with the AAC-SD simply because I didn't care to have their name engraved on the side of my rifle when I don't have any of their products and don't plan to. YMMV
it has LT Tactical stamped on the barrel, so it might not be a true LTR maybe just close to? I haven't been able to find too much information other than what's on my box and this particular thread. kind of annoying trying to find info on a rifle that electronically doesn't seem to exhist lol.
I own one and bedded the action and floated the barrel on the SPS varmint stock. It is the SPS LT tactical and comes 1:10 twist. Mine shoots sub MOA consistently with the bedded factory stock. Just changed the stock to a HS Precision for more fore-end stability. Still shoots the same. I love mine and tried like many of you to find more info. I actually prefer the 1:10 twist and the flutes. I'm not trying to revive an old thread, just putting the info out for others to find.
It's a great gun for the money and you can always up grade the stock.
PS - if you are building up on a budget as I was when purchasing this rifle, check out "Erniethegunsmith" and get the reduced trigger spring for the x-mark adjustable trigger. Best $7 I ever spent. Trigger breaks consistently now at 2 lbs 10 oz.
